[Forhire] 24 year old veteran looking by ivoryhawkin forhire

I've got nothing for yah - but good luck! When I got out of the military I went straight to school and got my chemical engineering degree. It has served me well so far.

Capitalizing on future bubbles, trends, and buying opportunities in 2012. by pewpnstuffin investing

Not really a bubble per say, but my long hold account is heavily weighted towards agriculture. Ammonia, potash, etc... will be more important than ever as the worlds population increases along with the average quality of life.

So you think the market is still in rally mode? I've been waiting for a pull back for a few days now and was wondering if today might be the beginning of a dip.

IDLE crashes (dual install 2.7 3.2 on Mac OS X) by bibimbapperin Python

[–]bibimbapper[S] 0 points1 point ago

Noted - I'll certainly look into it.

Right now I'm just trudging through some lessons and will most likely make use of eclipse for the flexibility it provides. I'll look more into IPython tonight.

Thanks!

Ok - so the error i traced from the previous error pointed to sizewell (a window resizing tool), which i thought was strange. I turned off the program and now IDLE runs fine.

Damn strange for something like that to impact IDLE.

Thanks for your help!

Ahh - sorry. Here you go: terminate called throwing an exceptionAbort trap: 6

There are over 84 lines that pop off of that.

/var/mail is empty... very strange.

Here is the path from the print statement:

Me too. My 401k w/ a buy and hold strategy has done well while my cash account for options has been getting killed from flopped spy puts. It makes me sad.

Need some help getting started on a simple calculation program by bibimbapperin learnpython

Yup - on a mac for now. But if I ever want to make an application that we can make use of at work, it will most likely need to be in exe format.

Thank you! I'll start reading that concurrently with working through the tkinter tutorial.

Thanks - so far I've managed to install it and follow their directions on getting a basic foot to meter conversion program going. Great stuff!

So, to take this one step further, what is a good way to turn this into a pc exe and a mac dmg/app application?

Also - I had one problem, when ending the conversion program, the activepython program freezes up and has to be forced closed. Any idea what's up with that?

I'm 30, and nobody likes to talk about it, but I'd like to know how other 30 years olds are doing with their retirement. I'm talking dollar amounts. I'd like to see if I'm in good shape. Maybe it'll help you too. by PrescottSheldonBushin investing

OP: Good idea - it's always nice to bounce these sorts of things off of others. I feel like our generation is gonna get smacked and I really feel like my current savings is totally inadequate. That being said, I've been investing of late and the market has kicked my ass all over. I've lost more than I would care to admit to in the last few months. :( I am now a much more conservative investor than I once was, but time will tell if I have really learned my lesson. I'm a bear waiting for this market to crash and it just wont.... on to the numbers.

31 - I started late too (prior military) Cash accounts (checking & savings) = 45k Rolled over 401K = $35k Current company 401k (been there for 2/3 yr or so) = $10k Investing accounts = $25k

No debt, cars paid off and we live in an apartment till we find a place we are 100% sold on. The wife has her own 401k also - no clue on the value of that one.

EDIT: Decided to take this a step further and put in my current investments. I'm up on some and down on some others. Stocks: SDS, EUO

Options: SPYMar126PUT (bought and sold some over the course of this week, still hold some) VIXMar26CALL (bought today to hedge against a possible continued rally)

Have you thought about buying calls on FAZ instead? Maybe buy calls at the 35 strike and you can detach yourself from the volatility of an earnings play. Just my $.02, i'm just a lurker after all. :)

Help me understand how to calculate break-even for an options straddle spread. by pankratovin investing

[–]bibimbapper 1 point2 points ago

The real questions is why do you feel like you should be buying a straddle? And why does it need to be GOOG?

Seriously though, either play with some cheap SPY puts and calls and/or do lots of reading. Don't go starting off with a $25 option.
