The fact that you are suggesting that ANYTHING you do in diablo three could be somehow comparable to a setting in your bootloader is exactly the kind of handwringing I am talking about. I'm not going to directly quote you because you just said it here, and I don't really respect you that much I guess!

Seeing as the ways you can discover the result of a modification are either firsthand or secondhand knowledge and you literally just said you are averse to self-discovery, then yes, you don't do things until someone tells you the results. Denying that, then reiterating what I just said is pretty hilarious doublethink.

It's not the asking what it does, it's the repeatedly insisting that making a trivial change is inherently unsafe that makes it ridiculous handwringing. When you counter "just try it out" with "NO I AM A PROFESSIONAL HANDWRINGER", that elevates it to a new and hilarious level.

All I have to go on about you is what you're posting here, and you've posted that you don't like to try things until someone has told you what the result will be. Sorry if the way you portray yourself bothers you!

I experiment because I'm competent enough to figure things out in the event they go south. Hand-wringing over an innocuous variable isn't some sort of brilliantly considered caution like you're trying to make it out to be, it's just you being ridiculous.

If everything you know has come from only what other people have told you, then I doubt you know very much at all.

What I am looking for is an example of a corporation that was brought to power through voluntary trade that is providing a service or product of lower overall quality than its competition.

That's a ridiculous thing to ask for. Watch:

What I am looking for is an example of a corporation that was brought to power through voluntary trade that is providing a service or product of higher overall quality than its competition.

Corporations do not exist outside of the sphere of government, by virtue of their legal status as corporations. Neither demand is reasonable or even sensical.

The citizens (fuck this "property owners" nonsense; you don't need to own the beach to be affected by people dumping medical and radioactive waste off the coast) could not sue the corporations for compensation because the corporations were not Somali and the Somali government, should it have even existed when the dumping occurred, did not have the ability to force the issue with, well, force. The exact problem was that the government was not powerful enough to counter people "voting with their dollars". Sucks for them.

What makes them different from a government branch is that they aren't a government branch.

If the government were to magically disappear tomorrow, they would still exist and would absolutely certainly be employed by people who want to use or feel the need to use a security force.

The idea that if the government were gone then nobody would have the desire or means to extort wealth or destructively secure assets is insipid.

I disagree that they are "essentially a branch of the US government" any more than GE is.

I bet they would shape right up if they were being paid by, let's say, exxonmobil to "secure" oil fields in South Sudan.

An example to the contrary of what? Corporations acting without the influence of government and acting without concern for people? Here's an example.

The "best service" you get means precisely nothing to people who live in the dumping grounds that are most profitable to use.

You should stop for the sake of your blood pressure. We are worried about you, here on the internet.

Also because your weird crusade here is ridiculous (but hilarious).

I am saying that you are not actually interested in discussing alternative views, and it is made clear by the ridiculously loaded language you use. This was actually kind of obvious with your insistence on using "providing the best service" as though that were a descriptive and informative metric despite unaddressed points to the contrary, but you did a good job of reiterating it here.

Keep telling me about how mad you weren't/aren't; it's super convincing.

Don't forget to exercise your power over my precious internet points, you man of action you :)

Please help me understand why I should trust the government by providing facts. I'm genuinely interested in being proven wrong.

Okay well here's a lengthy and even handed respon...wait what's that you said?

you are literally kidnapped if you do not fund the current war machine called the US government.

lol oh.

Brometheus, your post has worth in that it's kind of funny seeing you get mad, but do you have such an inflated egbro that you think it's likely to affect any change?

I mean, there is change in that I now know you're a guy who's prone to totally fly off the handle when other people are calmly talking about something you're not involved with. So there's that.

Actually, I'm not mad.

No, you're super mad.

Go fuck yourself. Maybe you should learn to not fucking speak unless you can actually contribute.

Lol, nice contribution bro. You totally enriched the internet right there.

You seem pretty mad about something I said to someone who wasn't the guy in question.

You should maybe take a step back.

Under what circumstances can a company both be the most profitable without providing the best service?

Well, seeing as I literally just said "providing the best service" is nebulous and mostly unrelated to what a company actually does to be successful, I don't think this is an honest framing of the situation.

An example would be, say, ExxonMobil products. The fact is, this company would not exist as a monopoly today if it weren't for the numerous benefits it receives from its inefficient government

Completely unfalsifiable. This is not an arguable position.

I see no reason to trust the companies who have to work for my dollars less than the governments who forcefully extract them from me.

And I see no reason to trust corporations whose sole reason for existence is to get as much money from me as they can as quickly as possible.

There is nothing that makes me believe that they would magically behave ethically in the absence of government, it's just that government is the most convenient thing for them to leverage at the moment. Obviously I have a problem with this, but I see this as impetus for governmental policy change (for example, do not allow private funding of elections and absolute prohibition of any gifts/dinners/outings or anything other than a conversation with representatives by lobbyists), not abolition.

I'm pretty sure I am not being forced fight a war on the other side of the world!

Once, I stubbed my toe on a chair. It hurt a lot, and I actually got a small fracture. I did not see this as an invalidation of the idea of chairs (or other heavy objects on posts), I saw this as a poor implementation of a chair in the center of a path where I was walking.

But I did

No, you handwaved using an example I had already addressed, and then completely ignored the other HALF of the post you were ostensibly responding to. You are the most tedious, weaslly person I have ever conversed with on reddit. Congratulations, I guess.

Have fun paying your taxes! I'm going to drive on roads they pay for and not even thank you :)
