Biggest Lie in My College Life by glenntm3in funny

[–]beatbot 1 point2 points ago

I have a near perfect GPA and I never take notes in class.

I usually read ahead of lecture by a few chapters, and study before the lectures. If I don't understand I ask a question. In detail heavy classes I record the lecture. If the prof does all his shit on the board, I usually work out a deal to get notes from another classmate.

It's amazing how much you can learn if you focus on what the prof is saying, and pissing away brain cycles on notes.

If you were put in charge of trimming Earth's human population down to 3 billion or so, what would your criteria be for who stays and who goes? by Clayburnin AskReddit

[–]beatbot 0 points1 point ago

I have no idea about this type of stuff but:

A comprehensive set of physical, mental, artistic and social exams mandated and implemented by global organization. Support comes from government / local administration. Points are awarded for good performance in each category. An overall and category score are provided.

Tests are administered every 5th year for 2 months, between the ages of 5-30. Testing becomes part of human life on earth. All results are kept secret as to not interfere with class / society.

Positive outliers and generally well performing individuals are favored. For example, frail geniuses and dumb but exceptional athletes are fine. Higher points for athletic, healthy, artistic, intelligent, sympathetic humans. Low points for stupid, lazy, unhealthy... etc.

Sterilize the lower 60% during vaccination.

Repeat cull every 100 years, altering the sterilization % to maintain a desired population.

Enjoy a better society!

Note: The selection criteria must be comprehensive but not attempt to create an ideal human, but rather an ideally diverse group. We don't want everybody to turn out the same now do we? That would be lame.

I looked at that picture and thought... I've never played that game before... looks kinda like a lame version of warcraft.

I don't care if I only ever saw half the game, I refuse to ever play as an Alliance dog. Self righteous, racist, xenophobic, imperialist scum.

Nope. The bigger they are, the easier it is for them to destroy little guys. However, sometimes with quick, cheap shots to the face, or adequate training, little guys CAN beat big guys. And then the internet gets a boner.

Pop and Film composers? Point taken. I can see why they would gravitate towards Sibelius.

I've worked with a number of Reich scores though, and he's not using Sibelius, at least not for any of those ones. Maybe all the music publishers I've talked too are full of shit.

Believe me, I have no love for Finale. Sometimes it makes me want to blow my brains out. But, until I see Sibelius running on the computers at a music publishing house, I'll have to take their words at face value.

Give an example of a professional composer who you know who uses Sibelius. I'm curious about what you mean, when you say professional.

Really? Which publishers use it? For quite some time I remember there was a dos based scripting language that was favored by most publishers. I don't know if people are still using it. ... Still beats plates though. Damn.

What does harmony assistant that a professional copyist needs? Typically there is an insane amount of customization I need to do to get output for publication... This thing looks a little rough.

But you know what? It isn't the tool that makes the product.

Can be? It IS tedious and terrible, but until there is something amazing that comes along, we're all fucked. or, we can grab one of those notation punches and get clicking.

Kind of... Except they have no money to create new, useful products. Instead they keep shitting useless features into a buggy old code base. They are past due for Finale 2, written in a modern way.

[–]beatbot 1 point2 points ago

I have high hopes for Sibelius. I think the big problem with Finale is that it is built on a shitty old code base. I don't think they can afford to re-build it in a modern way, so they keep heaping shitty new features on a buggy monolith. Maybe one day you young punks with your Sibelius will show us old farts who's boss. I'm 28, but I've been using Finale since I was 12. Every year I wonder if it would be worth making the switch.

Psh... Bitch Please. You guys are pussies. Have you ever played a rented orchestral score from Russia? Those guys had some bad ass copyists. I used to love getting parts like that and admiring the workmanship.

[–]beatbot 4 points5 points ago

May be true, but I don't see many professionals using Sibelius. Just commercials about professionals using Sibelius. ... and young college students using Sibelius. As far as I can see, Finale still rules, and I hate it. ... every day.

Gay people of Reddit, how do you ask people out when you don't know if they're gay or not? by monkaydoin AskReddit

[–]beatbot 0 points1 point ago

I would say it's actually pretty easy to find out with the following dialogue:

  1. Do you have a girlfriend?
  2. Who was your last girlfriend?
  3. Do you fuck dudes?

Gay people of Reddit, how do you ask people out when you don't know if they're gay or not? by monkaydoin AskReddit

[–]beatbot 0 points1 point ago

There is a difference between asking somebody if they are gay, and asking somebody out / flirting, when you know they are straight. I am discussing the 2nd type. I didn't mean to imply that asking somebody if they are gay is bad. This was a reply to a post about gay guys trying to date straight men. (Because they're all lying anyway right?)

As for the self hate, not the case. However, most of my friends are straight guys, and I've had to develop a very strict code for dealing with them. Some of my gay friends have no idea how I can do it. I say they are just weak, and lack discipline / integrity.

I'm a gay guy who appears and acts straight, and date similar guys. In my opinion, asking out straight guys is disrespectful and gives gay dudes a bad reputation.

It's not hard to figure out if somebody is a homo before you ask them out. Don't be a dick.

ಠ_ಠ by Titcowin WTF

[–]beatbot 1 point2 points ago

As a guy who loves dick, but appears 100% straight in appearance and manor, I used to agree with this teacher. If anybody ever hassled me about being gay I would pound them. (Not that way... unless they wanted it) I didn't understand why other gay guys didn't just do the same.

Growing up I thought... "damn.. why the hell are all these fags acting so damn gay? Can't they just man up, fuck dudes and be bros about it?" I would just shake my head, watching them get harassed at school, for dressing/talking fabulous and such. Not helping them is something I regret very much now. As a Bromo it's my responsibility to help femmy guys, because even if they kind of weird me out, we're still on the same team!

I realized that gays have a spectrum of outwardly masculinity, same as straight guys. In most cases, behavior can't be helped. The only difference is that one craves wieners, the other, tacos. Though I think society should change, there is something to be said for being low key sometimes. I mean shit... Being invited by straight guys to hockey night? Is that really the best time to show off your new man purse?

TL:DR: BE GAY! But don't be an idiot. Pick your battles.

Ok. I thought we were talking about mythical baddies and bestial creatures. Orcs, demons, monsters etc. If we're talking about animals, then sure. Different. Even so, not too many animals will attack people for food.

Maybe at the centre of this is my disappointment in the lack of creativity in designing conflicts. Players need shit to kill right? Send in some wolves. Wolves kill people right? If they're hungry? Maybe an army of big green guys... They're "other" and big, so don't trigger any sympathy from the player.

Beasties are beasts? ... That's the type of shit that the English used to say when they were colonizing. I'm crazy enough to let my open minded tolerance spill into fantasy realms.

Every orc, demon, or fantastical or bestial creature deserves to be judged according to their deeds. White washed "pure" heroes and the forces of light are the real ones to watch out for, at least in any story worth reading... in my opinion.

I have always thought of games like this. I can't play Orc's Must Die because I think Orcs are awesome. Read: The Last Ring Bearer to get an idea of how a little balanced perspective can change one's understanding of a struggle.

It really bothers me that big burly "monster" guys are always cannon fodder. Big, awesome looking creatures have back stories, souls and aspirations!
