atheism as a believe is, I think, linked to gnosticism vs agnosticism (i.e. whether you are unsure that the existence of God can be proved or disproved). You can be an agnostic atheist or a gnostic atheist.

There are atheist quakers?

There was another moment in DS9 that I thought was clever.

The episode was Rules of Acquisition, where Pel (a ferengi female) was pretending to be a man to take part in business dealings. I thought it was great when her and Dax were talking and Dax saw what was going on.

DAX
        I don't care what anyone says, I
        love him.

                PEL
            (nodding)
        So do I.

And there's something in the simple certainty of Pel's remark
that convinces Dax she's telling the truth.

                DAX
            (realizing)
        You really do, don't you?

                PEL
        What?

                DAX
        Love Quark. Don't bother denying
it. I've seen the way you look at
        him.

A flustered Pel looks around the Replimat to make sure no
one is listening.

                PEL
        Keep your voice down.

                DAX
        Does he know?

                PEL
        He doesn't even know I'm a female.

That really catches Dax by surprise.

                DAX
        You're a woman?

Agreed. I was miserable because the amount of unceasing responsibility, but there are lots of reasons ;-)

Any suggestions as to the best way to get out of a copier lease/contract? by AtariFXin sysadmin

Take a look at the contract. Has the service been bad enough that they're in breach of it?

What's your silliest rookie sysadmin mistake? I made one tonight... by honestbleepsin sysadmin

[–]bandman614 0 points1 point ago

A good rule of thumb is to not compile things on production servers.

I know you're not a sysadmin, and you were using a VPS, but this is /r/sysadmin, so I'm just going to say this:

Create a build server where you package the software that you need to install. Install using the package manager that works best for your operating system.

Also something to watch for is trying to perform operations on hidden files (i.e. something that starts with a ., such as .profile).

I one time screwed up while trying to remove a bunch of hidden files by typing

 rm -rf .*

To my horror, I found that the shell was more than happy to allow .* to match .., meaning I just wiped out the directory beneath the one I was in.

Oops.

How are the enterprise management features? I'm interested in things like how you deploy it in an automated manner, what package management is like (and can we host out own repo internally), does it use PAM, things like that. Puppet works with it, right?

I have some bad news. Well, not /really/ bad, but the one on the right isn't in mint (unless the lower right corner blemish is a trick of the light).

Yeah, they scratched on whiteout, then decided to fix it "for real" with a black bar (which is the only version I could find when I was trading).

And were they fragile! Any time you print foil up to the edge of the card, yech. It's ruined as soon as it's printed.

The original cards had borders that didn't show as much wear, at least (although I think the reason for the borders was to account for printing errors, but I'm not sure). Edge to edge printing made it hard to touch the cards at all without introducing blemishes.

wow. That's like when Topps came out with Finest and charged $25. I laughed.

I ended up trading for a couple in the set, but I never bought a pack.
