I'd be interested to know this too. Anyone got an address for a brick-and-mortar nutrition store with affordable prices?

What is the best way to burn fat rapidly? by Jaxcenin Fitness

[–]balanceiskey 25 points26 points ago

  1. Figure out your 'maintenance' caloric level. Google can help you work this out.
  2. Subtract between 500-1000 from this (experiment with what works best for you). Eat this many calories on a daily basis. Also called eating at a deficit. Use an online calorie tracker to help.
  3. Split this into 60% protein, 30% fat, 10% carbs for 'rapid' fat loss. Again, experiment with these figures to see what works best for you. Look into /r/paleo and /r/keto.
  4. Lift weights three times a week. Throw in some cardio too for good measure. Look into 'Starting Strength'.

The FAQ can elaborate on all of this. Check it out.

What is something a person who is not well-off has said to you that changed your perspective on your own life? by frame_limitin AskReddit

'Life goes on' - the gatekeeper who would do the night shifts at a run-down apartment complex I grew up in, in Karachi, Pakistan. Blew my 9 year old mind.

The next best alternative to squats? by balanceiskeyin Fitness

[–]balanceiskey[S] 1 point2 points ago

I have opted for the conservative route of doing physio for 3-4 months, making my shoulders healthy, and trying to adapt my exercises/muscles in a way that the injury doesn't refrain from me weightlifting, putting on muscle, or any day-to-day task for that matter. If after this period, I am still uncomfortable with the situation or the injury is preventing me from living a normal healthy life in anyway (including lifting and putting on size) then I will definitely go for surgery. My circumstances may be different however and in your case surgery may have been the only option.

Further down that page is this little gem...

Read the study “A Biomechanical Comparison of Back and Front Squats in Healthy Trained Individuals” by Gullett, et al. Here’s a quote: “The front squat was shown to be just as effective as the back squat in terms of overall muscle recruitment, with significantly less compressive forces on the knee"

I could definitely give front squats a go. How do you perform one with perfect technique and how much does the form vary to that of the high-bar? Any useful links? The more detailed the better, I'm talking Rippetoe's 20+ pages on the high bar squat in SS 2nd ed. kinda detail.

EDIT: Never mind, I just found a 14 minute video on vimeo with Rippetoe talking about the front squat in detail.

Fucking upvote this guy. When you get bored of this switch up the chicken breasts with strips of steak. Feeling even more adventurous and would like to experience your first ever mouth orgasm? Fine. Add two cloves of crushed garlic, some oyster sauce, and your choice of onion (regular, red onions, or shallots).

EDIT: Sprinkle some fresh coriander, red chillies, and sesame seeds when serving. I think I just came.

Life in Singapore as a young professional. What's it like? by balanceiskeyin singapore

[–]balanceiskey[S] 1 point2 points ago

This is an extremely useful and well-written response. Thank you. I'm still undecided as to whether they are paying me enough to live a 'decent' lifestyle but I am closer to making a decision now than I was before. Cheers.

People of /r/fitness that can dunk, what's your secret? by Stoooatin Fitness

[–]balanceiskey 2 points3 points ago

You got downvoted because you expect people to believe you went from being able to 'barely dunk' to 'throwing down alleys, reverses, and nasty tomahawks' all due to frolicking in the waves in Mexico for a week. I'm sure you had good intentions in your post but to most sensible people who've tried to train their vertical before you almost come across as trollish.

Initial diagnosis - torn labrum in both shoulders. Anyone been in a similar situation? by balanceiskeyin Fitness

During a dumbbell bench press, heaviest weight I'd ever repped, standard SL routine. I understand what you're saying about the push/pull imbalance, as long as there is hope and it doesn't take more than a year to get back to at least 95% recovered I'm happy.

What are the specific benefits of green tea in regards to fat loss? by balanceiskeyin Fitness

I bet. What piques my curiosity however is; if you were to somehow get two people anatomically and physiologically identical to each other, both with identical restricted diets and lifting/running exercise routines, with the only difference being one of them drinking 2 cups of green tea a day, what differences would you see in the results in terms of fat loss over say a period of 3 months?

I'd be interested to know this too. Say I decided to go on a conventional bulk, would green tea be counterproductive to my goals? Or would I still be better off drinking it than not due to it's wide range of benefits?

Edit: Just realized I basically repeated exactly what hurrayfortimemachine said....

It has been implicated in benefiting almost every organ system in the body.

Wow. If that really is true, why the fuck don't more people drink this stuff?

I'm in exactly the same position as you as far as that stubborn tummy pouch goes, so to hear that green tea helped get rid of it is great. Did you keep all the other variables in your diet and exercise routine exactly the same in this two week period?
