Superior? by spreadlovein vegan

[–]ashaman212 0 points1 point ago

This was a few years back in college in completely random situations. None of which were vegan events. Just people taking the opportunity to tell me they are better than other people. I generally chalk it up to the fact that each group has their pretentious members. it is now a topic in the same category as religion as something i don't bring up since it enters an area of deep belief and people can be sensitive. So I want to be sensitive to that.

I have other friends who are vegan and it's just another thing, no big deal. They have awesome recipes :).

Superior? by spreadlovein vegan

[–]ashaman212 -1 points0 points ago

I enjoy eating and learning about vegan cuisine (it's the reason I subscribe to this group). The bad vegans are the ones who like to tell me I'm a bad person for not acting/eating/believing how or what they do/eat/believe.

I think this is where the superiority complaint comes from.

And they don't think this is too broad? Any information a cybersecurity center has is fair game to be given to anyone even remotely related to the government. I wonder what defines a "cycbersecurity purpose".

4 (5) CYBERSECURITY CENTER.—The term ‘‘cy- 5 bersecurity center’’ means the Department of De- 6 fense Cyber Crime Center, the Intelligence Commu- 7 nity Incident Response Center, the United States 8 Cyber Command Joint Operations Center, the Na- 9 tional Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, the Na- 10 tional Security Agency/Central Security Service 11 Threat Operations Center, the National Cybersecu- 12 rity and Communications Integration Center, and 13 any successor center.

I need to reread this series. I've either forgotten or completely missed this detail.

Common approach is to either place the appropriate IPs at the root or use a redirect service at the root to direct via HTTP to www.xyz.com

The Sword of Truth series. Amazing story, crappy content? by nacorbittin Fantasy

[–]ashaman212 8 points9 points ago

Every time I think to myself, "I should finish that series." I find something else to do, like cut myself or jump in a well. I've read through to Chainfire and it's been so difficult, and that was years ago now. Definitely seems the case where the author had NO idea what he wanted out of the story or his characters.

Mind you I started this series in 1995 (14 years old) and abandoned it in about 2003. I think I blew through Chainfire in a weekend in '07. Here are my thoughts on the series, as I remember it.

  • Debt of Bones (Prequel, short story and generally enjoyable)
  • Wizard's First Rule (Awesome, I've reread it a number of times still enjoy it to this day)
  • Stone of Tears (good, interesting things happen)
  • Blood of the Fold (Oookay, starting to lose me)
  • Temple of the Winds (Easy read, still part of the larger story arch so good stuff)
  • Soul of the Fire (Uhh, I think I might have finished the story, let me write this useless filler that makes you buy another book)
  • Faith of the Fallen (My fav outside of Wizard's first rule, really should have been a different universe)
  • The Pillars of Creation (Interesting premise, excuse to introduce a different story arch)
  • Naked Empire ( meh )
  • Chainfire (Barely remember it...just painful, but I might have been biased by then...:))

I stopped there.

I DO love the cover art though :)

Wasn't there mention that it was a very specific location as well where the bore was created as well? So, compound the strength required with the singular locality...difficult proposition indeed.

What if Star Wars Episode I were actually good? by nirdefchains91in videos

Loved this concept. Episode 1 killed my fandom of Star Wars in one stroke.

The only continuity that gets overlooks is that ob1 tells luke that his master was Yoda. Oh well. Sound Clip: http://www.yodajeff.com/multimedia/sounds/episode5/go_to_dagobah.wav

Obama Unveils Plan to Cut Corporate Tax Rate to 28 Percent by sautein moderatepolitics

Per NPR this very morning. Most corporations pay about 18% with all the loopholes. Some corporations haven't paid tax in over a decade.

Can someone explain REST and SOAP in simple terms? by gaidengtin learnprogramming

[–]ashaman212 0 points1 point ago

Heh, a coworker and myself get into this discussion sometimes when talking about "enhancing" our own REST interface. "But, that's not REST...it's, something else."

I think "REST", at least in my circles, as basically become synonymous with "HTTP interface", REST purists be damned :)

Can someone explain REST and SOAP in simple terms? by gaidengtin learnprogramming

[–]ashaman212 0 points1 point ago

Let me preface by saying I can rather thick when people use different words to describe something that's already in my head :p please forgive me if I'm misunderstanding your meaning.

From what I've gathered in another topic on here, REST is more akin to a data service that provides CRUD operations for entities. Business logic can be part of this as well, but only in so much as that business logic can be triggered by a change of state of some object or by the creation of a new object that represents some action, so instead of doing something like calling BankAccount.TransferMoney(), you create a new Transfer entity, with HTTP, by POSTing data to a URI like /bankaccounts/12345/transfers to create a new member of the Transfers collection for that bank account.

This almost sounds like a semantics argument. A RESTful interface can mimic functional behavior. Using HTTP; The URI is the method name, and the HTTP method (PUT, DELETE, POST, GET) indicates a variety of actions to take. The body of those HTTP methods can contain the arguments into the method. Then it's up to the provider to say what the data format is. I use a RESTful API regularly that accepts XML or JSON as a format; you just pass the format in as the content/type so it knows how to parse the body.

SOAP is just xml (feh) but a SOAP interface with a WSDL (especially for those in things like VisualStudio) will benefit from having direct access to methods in their development environment.

Re-watching 'Cold Blood' again and I really dislike this woman. by ashaman212in doctorwho

[–]ashaman212[S] 17 points18 points ago

I got into this discussion with my friend the other day. A children's show vs. a family show. The connotation of a children's show is that it's actually targeted to children (and I'm not talking about children's shows that just happen to have some adult overtones so the parent's watching don't lose their minds). imo, Doctor Who is written for the whole family.
