This dude must get tons of bitches [SFW] by DerpwinRommelin gaming

[–]anseyoh 8 points9 points ago

1) Most girls probably wouldn't even know what that is.

2) You act like this is something to be ashamed of. Maybe it's out there, maybe it's super nerdy, maybe it's super niche. But this guy likes what he likes and doesn't care what anyone else thinks about it, even to the point where he is willing to drop hundreds of dollars and/or hours into this project.

I respect him for being willing to let it all hang out, as it were. That kind of security in oneself is more attractive than someone trying to fake their coolness/worthiness of sexytimes.

Besides, this is probably one of those things that girls put on their list of "things he owns that I will someday get him to throw out."

Swore against using AH for items, can't progress in hell difficulty now. by Baron_Tartarusin Diablo

[–]anseyoh 0 points1 point ago

The game drops items 10 levels under you to force you to use the AH. You are generating gear that is up to date for people 10 levels under you, but if you want gear that is level appropriate you need to buy it from people farming monsters ten levels higher than you are.

It's a mechanic designed to create an economy. I don't think it's cheating.

Play Tera.

Diablo is hard because the mathematical odds are stacked against you in a vicious, chew-you-up-and-shit-you-out way.

Tera throws dice rolls out the window in favor of combat that plays more like a fighting game. If your swing connects with the target, you land a hit. No of this "oh you dodged because our random number generator said so" mechanics like in Diablo - survivability and damage output is 100% skill based.

The Blacksmith is not "worthless". by ShadyJanein Diablo

[–]anseyoh 0 points1 point ago

Enough to know that smithing was a pointless endeavor that I left behind by level 15.

How much gold are you giving up to get that level 14 piece from the blacksmith?

Don't forget to factor in the opportunity cost of the vendored blues and yellows you smelted down for mats instead of selling them for gold at the vendor.

What are the odds you get the exact stats you want? In fact, what are the odds you get a piece that is at least KINDA good? I'm guessing that it takes you three attempts to get something decent.

If you had simply vendored the stuff instead of melting it, you'd have been able to buy something with the exact stat distribution you wanted instead of something you settled for.

So, statistically over the long run, you pay more for worse gear.

Not to mention that drops are designed to push you to use the auction house - that's why you always see gear about 5 levels below you, so you can sell it to people who are 5 levels below you.

The Blacksmith is not "worthless". by ShadyJanein Diablo

[–]anseyoh 0 points1 point ago

You went from "smithing" to "picking up gear, period." It's better to use whatever pickups you find and if you have a slot that is like, 15 levels back, to fill it with something from the auction house instead of trying to get lucky with the blacksmith.

The blacksmith is, and always will be, inferior to the auction house in terms of how easily you can find gear with the stats you want at a price you can afford.

Therefore, the blacksmith is useless.

Am I still dodging your point?

Demon Hunters: What will you do now that smoke screen/prep combo has been nerfed? by iseewhatyoudidthere5in Diablo

[–]anseyoh -2 points-1 points ago

Get fast weapons. Stack attack speed.

Stun grenades (normals), bola stun (bosses), and multishot with discipline rune (good for special monster packs).

Shadow power with gloom (tankiness is a good thing), preparation, and smoke screen (you still need to break jailer/frozen).

Round 'em up, drop grenades, and life steal tank with constant shadow power. Congratulations! You are a tank.

Smoke Screen ninja nerfed as well by Kreufin Diablo

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

Really? I have found a good bit of success in hell mode by going all purple gems, two 1h-xbows, and stun grenade + shadow power (gloom) spam.

You want as much attack speed as possible and stun lock everything. Use shadow power liberally, using preparation as necessary/available. As far as damage output goes, you won't be hitting very hard but you become very, very tanky. When you have just one target left, your stun bola will provide a more reliable stunlock than the grenades.

I haven't decided on a spender yet, but multishots with discipline refill makes a strong case.

I'm not sure how well this will work in Inferno.

Honest Critique about Skills and Weapons by Wakersin diablo3

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

The monk never using his weapons if they aren't fists is stupid, I agree. I heard they're updating the monk animation suite to fix this soon.

However, the itemization and skill scaling in this game does open up interesting playstyle choices. I think if you let this slide, you could have a lot of fun with exploring the mechanics and such.

Honest Critique about Skills and Weapons by Wakersin diablo3

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

Why does everyone say that dual wielding is pointless? I have yet to see a quiver or shield that breaks 15% increased attack speed, and if you get 15% on both weapons you have a total of +45% from two slots on weapons that already have the fastest swing speeds in the game. If you tried that on a 1h + shield/quiver you'd only get to +30% max.

Thematically, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Mathematically and economically, this shits all over the more thematically sound itemization from previous blizzard titles. Everything is being streamlined- damage is damage is damage is damage. Items are for the most part useable across all classes, and the only thing that matters is the stat distributions on whatever you're using.

Frankly, this makes it better from a gameplay perspective. No more "wow, what a great set of wizard stats on this fuckin' greatsword that wizards can't use!" Now, it's just "that's a good wizard weapon."

Every time I play with a Demon Hunter... by N1MPOin diablo3

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

Your group loves you for the control you provide. Most DH are blinded by big multishots with heavy weapons.

People like you and me can appreciate the more subtle ways of killing, like perma-stun via grenades, shock arrows, bolas, and impale.

And everyone seems to have forgotten how good chain shot is for hell+.

Discussing inferno and tips to survive there (also, feel free to ama, dh lvl 60) by igdubin Diablo

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

Actually no, I am still level 56 so it hasn't become an issue yet. If I were to stick with a single build altogether for a control-oriented playstyle it would look like:

  • Stun Grenades
  • Stun Elemental Arrow
  • Caltrops with crit buff
  • Smoke screen with discipline reduction (this gets you some leeway with frozen/jailer packs because of the CC break)
  • Flex spot (your choice. I run preparation with hatred refill, but I think there are other, equally useful options).

For passives, archery and vengeance are must-haves, and night stalker is quite nice for trap kiting. This build is tailored towards handbows, as lightning arrow stuns in a straight line on crit, which is buffed via archery and bait the trap.

You should see my heavy weapon build.

[–]anseyoh -1 points0 points ago

If you want a dramatic switch in playstyle, try getting an attack-speed oriented loadout and go:

Boss fights:

  • Bola with stun rune
  • Impale with stun rune

Questing:

  • Stun Grenades
  • Lightning Elemental arrow
  • Caltrops with crit rune
  • Archery Passive

to run "support" from the back line. I say support because your damage output isn't going to be great, but the sheer lockdown and control you can offer a group is nothing short of hilarious.

Tanking. Really an annoyance as a warrior? by energon5in TeraOnline

[–]anseyoh 0 points1 point ago*

As a priest, I vastly prefer lancer tanks over warrior tanks in boss fights because they do a much better job at keeping that boss facing a single direction. That, and lancers tend to be pretty stationary so it's easier to land my AOE heals.

To answer your question, it's technically possible, but I'll take a lancer over a warrior 10/10 times. If you're only level 12, I think it's worth it to go Lancer. I'm assuming you want the "perfect" tanking class? The Lancer fits the bill.

Warrior tanking is pretty hectic, as they flip the boss around quite often. I find they are best off serving as off-tanks, a backup option if the fight hits the fan and you need to buy some time to use a res scroll. I'm not sure what their damage output is like compared to Slayers or Berserkers.
