Have you ever been asked to transport anything like a giraffe, or something that couldn't possibly fit on an aircraft? If so, how would you do it? Or would you simply refuse?

A voter in a wheelchair suffering from muscular dystrophy asks Mitt Romney about medical marijuana. Mitt's response and reaction are absolutely indefensible. by putainmerdein politics

[–]alexroy_514 1 point2 points ago

Good point but Mitt Romney should have at least been more polite about it. "I understand your position sir, however, medical marijuana is something that I simply do not agree with." Or something along those lines would have been a much more suitable response. And yes, 99% of those other people didn't get to ask their questions, but does that mean that those who ask 'sensitive' questions be shot down and refused a straight, concise answer. Personally, that would discourage me from voting for this man, if this was truly how he deals with uncomfortable questions and/or under pressure. That being said, I think we can both agree that Mitt Romney could have handled this situation a lot better than he did.

How small would a planetary body need to be in order for the curvature to be drastically obvious to a human on the surface? by journo_manin askscience

[–]alexroy_514 -1 points0 points ago

The human eye on earth can only see about 8-10 miles (assuming a perfectly "flat" landscape) before the ground fades into the horizon. If we're talking about another planetary body, the minimum would most likely be the minimum radius for an object to be considered a planet, as you said planetary body.

If you eliminate that condition, there is a minimum mass that a body must have before its own gravity forces it into spherical shape, however this depends on multiple other factors, most significantly the material that the body is composed of. A quick google search revealed this relevant question and answer.

Obviously the body would have to be spherical (or near spherical) for us to see any curvature so then I would assume the question would become: how sensitive or adept is the human eye (or brain) at noticing a change in curvature over a long distance?

If you're trying to judge how straight a 12 ft.piece of timber compared to another, it shouldn't be so hard, but a much longer distance (miles) would surely be almost imposible.

There's a difference between being against medical marijuana and neglecting a person in a wheelchair, even if he is against medical marijuana, any other decent human being wouldn't have brushed this man off like Mitt Romney did.
