Does anyone know much about these two? Tasting notes? Price point? by FratDoctorin bourbon

As new products, they may be trying to recoup their investment as fast as possible.

Also, I thought I read something the other day about Hudson experimenting with "rapid-aging" techniques to mature the spirit faster.

I believe (but am not certain) that the Stetson is one of those whiskeys bottled by someone that didn't actually distill it. That said, I rather enjoyed it. $26 seems like a decent price for it. I haven't yet had (or had the opportunity to have) the McKenna.

Try them both for us!

High-Alcohol Spirits Gain in Number and Popularity by ryser2kin whiskey

(Yes, most spirits are diluted to render them palatable, a fact that comes as a shock to many otherwise savvy drinkers.)

If this is news to you, you were never savvy.

“When you go to Kentucky or Scotland, if you’re fortunate, they’ll take you to the warehouse and pop a few bungs,” he said. “Frequently, they’ll say, ‘This is as good as it gets.’ And it is.”

Ha.

Flashing headlights to warn of speed trap protected by the First Amendment: judge by salchichasyquesoin news

All of my towns have their fines funneled back into the town. One put loads of parking meters all over the place with the express intention of being able to collect revenue from parking tickets. Others do almost nothing but patrol the small stretches of highway that pass through their jurisdiction, issuing traffic tickets to generate revenue. Not cool.

That was pretty good. Will Smith seemed like he was about to tear up, which made me think of this.

How exactly did Thor become independent from Donald Blake? by Simon_Williamsin comicbooks

[–]alchemeron 2 points3 points ago

With a few exceptions, it really doesn't... and the extended Marvel family are never separate entities.

How exactly did Thor become independent from Donald Blake? by Simon_Williamsin comicbooks

[–]alchemeron 5 points6 points ago

(at least, this is the explanation in Dark Knight Strikes Again)

And it's traditionally wrong. Just one more way that Frank Miller is wholly willing to mis-write a character for the sake of his own stories. Captain Marvel is Billy Batson with the power of Shazam, not a separate entity. Captain Marvel Jr, Mary Marvel, and Black Adam are not separate or unique entities.

At an earlier hearing Circuit Judge Alan Dickey said, "If the goal of the traffic law is promote safety and not to raise revenue, then why wouldn't we want everyone who sees a law enforcement officer with a radar gun in his hand, blinking his lights to slow down all those other cars?" reported The Crime Report.

That's the goal of traffic law. That's not the goal of traffic enforcement. Revenue generated from fines -- any fines -- should not be allowed to be reappropriated by the town or state. It's a fundamental conflict of interest.

Star Trek: Cardinal Being Pitched To CBS Tomorrow! by Bovice1in television

[–]alchemeron 1 point2 points ago

This doesn't sound like it's even remotely in the spirit of Star Trek. It's not even DS9-cynical, it's BSG-cynical. "Cost overruns?" That's not the Federation I know... in any century.

Original 151 Pokemon Cards. Originally kept them hoping it would be worth something. Now I just look back through them for nostalgia. by j0llyllamain gaming

These kinds of things have, like, a forty year investment. There will be a point, when all your peers are growing feeble and waxing nostalgic as they approach retirement, that the value could peak. But not enough time has passed.

What's the most emotional moment in comics, for you? Just finished this and yeah...cried a little. by TheBrilliantMisterBin comicbooks

[–]alchemeron 2 points3 points ago

That's a really difficult question. Possibly Peter Parker's death in Ultimate Spider-Man.

A few years ago I might've answered the Superman annuals from the 2001: Armageddon event, especially the death of a pregnant Lois Lane in the Adventures of Superman Annual #3.

I find it especially interesting that this page would be mirrored by this page from Invincible #12. Does anyone know if they both draw from an earlier work? It does, in a certain way, echo the canon events from Adventures of Superman #450 when Superman exiles himself from Earth after killing alternate versions of General Zod and company in the pocket dimension.

Joker vs Justin Wong, FT10 at Toryuken by alchemeronin MvC3

[–]alchemeron[S] 5 points6 points ago

While I don't doubt that Joker is much better than he showed here, being able to play with that pressure is what is important. If you can't shine when the pressures on then your supposed skill doesn't mean anything.

Is that not our working definition of a "fraud"?

Both of whom are absolutely fantastic when placed in the right roles.
