Undercover US agents brought down our new Superjet: Russia's extraordinary claim about crash which killed 45. by first_they_camein conspiracy

[–]aerophobia 2 points3 points ago

No. Just no. Boeing was actually a consultant on the Superjet project, and played an active role in the initial design and marketing of the aircraft. Not to mention, neither Boeing nor Airbus offer a regional jet that would be in direct competition with this one. And in the meantime, Bombardier and Embraer -- two other non-American companies -- have been producing highly successful such aircraft for years, and have not been targeted.

Err, no, Napoleon was from Corsica, which is still a French territory today. Yes, Corsican culture is highly influenced by that of Italy as well, but it was and still is a part of France.

God dammit, as a huge fan of both the Ducks and the Isles I am seriously bummed by the ever-increasing probability of this matchup.

Thinking of buying a squire bass. Opinions ? by Squideehin Bass

[–]aerophobia 2 points3 points ago

I disagree strongly. Between the upper-tier Squiers (Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified) and the lower-tier Fenders (MIM) I haven't noticed anything approaching a "night and day" difference in quality. Hell, a CV '50s P-bass that I grabbed on craigslist for around $100 has become my primary bass. They're excellent value for the money.

Ehh, Bono hate I can easily understand, but I don't get what so many people have against the Edge. He's easily one of my all-time favorite guitarists.

But the Seals eventually merged with the North Stars, and the North Stars eventually moved to Dallas, and Dallas has won a cup. So by the transitive property, both the Seals and North Stars have won a cup.

You do realize that any cogent argument you may have had is pretty much invalidated by your calling someone a "fucking fascist nigger," right?

I once bought a book on raising hedgehogs. I don't even have any particular intention to raise hedgehogs, I just thought it would be fun to read.

So yeah, hedgehogs and all.

Whoa, replace "violins" with "basses" and you could almost exactly be describing me. I find myself in much the same sort of situation at the moment. I'm near NYC, which may or may not be too far for a "real" friendship or relationship, but you sound like someone I'd very much like to chat with, at the least.

The Desperate, Terrifying Last Words of the Crashed Air France Flight Pilots by ttruth1in conspiracy

[–]aerophobia 0 points1 point ago

The hell are you talking about? The key to absolutely everything is right here:

Bonin: ‘But I have been pulling back on the stick all the way for a while.'

The plane was stalled and rapidly losing altitude, and rather than pushing the nose down -- or hell, even just letting go of the stick -- the first officer had been pulling back the entire time, exacerbating the stall and preventing the plane from recovering.

I know this is r/conspiracy and all, but you're just spouting bullshit. The answers in this case are all blatantly obvious, and black boxes are invaluable to aviation and the flying public.

Can liberals explain to me *why* you often take these positions? by que5tionin Liberal

[–]aerophobia 5 points6 points ago*

So yes there is an American culture.

There is? Then, pray-tell, what is it?

I grew up in California, where the culture was primarily Latino and Asian. I'm currently living in New York, surrounded by Italians and Jews. I myself am French and Finnish. Which one of us is properly "American" enough for you? Which of these should we be embracing as our "national culture"?

My point is, we can't define a singular American culture, because we are a nation of immigrants (except, of course the natives, who absolutely nobody seems to give a shit about when discussing American culture.) But if you ask me, that's the beauty of the US when compared to other countries. We're heterogenous. We're all different. And that was, at least conceptually, the point of the US in the first place, was it not? To allow anyone to come here, be accepted, and make of their lives what they will without the need to conform to the prejudices of others.

QB: Schaub, Tebow, or Palmer? Schaub is the obvious choice, but it burned me last week.

WR: pick two out of Dwayne Bowe, Eric Decker, James Jones, and Larry Fitzgerald.

I'm in dead last at 2-7, but I still have a shot at the playoffs, so I'm agonizing over every decision. Oh, and in this league TDs are slightly overvalued while passing/rushing yards are slightly undervalued.

I've always been a big fan of Carles Benavent's flamenco style. I'm not aware of much else like it on the bass. Some say it's too guitar-ish, but I think it's a nice change of pace.

Montoya has been really impressive so far, and Nabokov looked surprisingly good last night. I don't know, for the first time in forever, I think the Isles are looking pretty damn okay in net. As sad as DP's constant injuries are, I think the team is fortunate to finally have him out of the way.

I don't care for this particular guy's tone, but I love the clicky clacky sounds of a good slap player. To each their own though; hell, my pet peeve is tapping, which everyone here seems to love.

As a current college student, music major, and bassist, I would say there is a big difference between having "some slapping under your belt" and being able to play Classical Thump, which is pretty far-fetched, ability-wise, for the "average" student bassist.
