TROPHY CASE

The obsession with numbers, power and performance over actually playing games... can anyone relate? by ni-712in buildapc

[–]ac1115 15 points16 points ago

I water cool my ram. The frames have noticeably less lag during intense gaming moments. It has definetly improved my frag ratio in CoD.

Anyone who doesn't is missing out. And clearly is a casual.

Your post seems to be pushing me slowly to buying nvidia screens.

I only wish there was a middle ground. These sorts of exclusive and incompatible systems are terrible for consumers. Reminds me of the hddvd vs bluray war a few years back.

Just to have a bigger screen. I suppose I can go smaller.

How do I increase the RAM speed? by iFlameLifein gamingpc

You need to read up about computers in general before posting here again.

/r/techsupport and /r/buildapc will help for these questions in the future.

That is the correct speed for that ram. The speed on the marketing material (1600mhz) is the effective speed, not the actual speed. Because ddr sends data twice for every clockcycle, you multiply the true speed by two to get your effective speed. Hense the name, double data rate (ddr).

800 x 2 = 1600. So it's operating correctly.

A water cooling setup will be expensive. GPU blocks are 130-150 each. A good cpu block will cost 100ish. Not to mention the res, pump, radiators, tubing, and fittings.

I'd set the 1k aside for water cooling. For a system like what you have, you'll need it to do it justice.

My RAM Timing Comparison Worksheet: Compare various timings and see which one is faster. by ac1115in gamingpc

[–]ac1115[S] 1 point2 points ago

Well the one I sent you was to answer a specific question regarding my 2400 cas 9 sticks. Some guy a few weeks ago was trying to assert his 1600 cl7 sticks were faster than my 2400 cl9. It wasn't meant for general consumption. This one uses 1600 cas 9 as the baseline.

1000/(freq/2) is the same as cycle time. So you already know that part, you've just seen it before in a different from. Bit time is the time needed to send a word after the first already is sent. So it's for sequential transfers.

The second chart equation can be broken into two halves. (cas)x(cycle time) is the time needed to get only the first word. And then the second part +((1-ammount of words)x(bit time)) is the rest of the request. Since we already sent the first word, we have to subtract one. Then we multiply the number of remaining words by the bit time, since the ram can pump out sequential bits a lot faster than random.

Keep in mind, this chart and equation is incredibly simplified. This assumes the row is already selected. However I still think it's a good indicator of ram performance.

as for command rate. that doesn't enter into this chart because one of the assumptions is that the row is already selected. bank selection would happen before we get to this point.

I know that wasn't very clear, but I hope that made sense.
