Thanks, it bugged me when I spotted it.

I'll take one for the team...

Hi Representative Emrick,

I recently noticed that your name was attached as a sponsor of House Resolution 535 declaring 2012 as the 'Year of the Bible'. It also asserts our need to 'study and apply the teachings of the holy scriptures'.

With this in mind, I have a few questions:

1.) In Mark 7:10, Jesus says that any child who disobeys their parents should be killed according to the Old Testament law. I love my daughter and would never hurt her, but this past weekend she ate some candy after I told her not to. When I confronted her about it she sassed me. Since Pennsylvania government seems to think applying the holy scripture is best, are you saying I should put my daughter to death? If so, what method does the state endorse? Stoning?

2.) In Samuel 18:27, David had to present 200 Philistine foreskins to the king. Does Pennsylvania have any foreskin drop-off centers? I'd like to contribute what I can.

3.) In Kings 2:23-24-42, God sent bears to maul and kill 42 children who made fun of Elisha's bald head. I've recently noticed the children in my neighborhood making fun of all manner of people. Are there any state programs to stimulate the wild bear populations?

4.) Timothy 2:12 says "I do not permit a woman to teach or assume authority over a man; she must remain quiet." Yet Michele Brooks, Marcia Hahn, Sandra Major, Donna Oberlander, Kathy Rapp, and Rose Marie Swanger are all sponsors of this resolution. Letting them be sponsors seems to contradict the teachings of the holy scriptures. Can you comment on this? I've copied the representatives above (the ones with public emails) as a courtesy so they can amicably adjust their behavior in the future to comply with the scriptures.

Thank you so much for your help to understand this apparently important resolution.

edit: It seems others have responded faster than I did. Kudos (and upvotes) to them, and to reddit, for inspiring all of us to take the time to reply.

Sad to see this happening in Canada. As an American, I apologize for setting such a bad example of 'law enforcement'. The world needs less of this shit, not more.

there are no other introverts around

I like that line. Coming from an introvert, it's very amusing... "Of course there aren't, you're not looking for them! And if one walked up to you, you would probably avoid them."

To me, there is a simple, although not scientific test. Ask them. If they prefer being alone, than with a group, their an introvert. How you scientifically test for that, I leave as an exercise for the reader.

Based on that simple question, I'm an introvert. Given the choice of being stranded on a deserted island for a year, or locked in a crowded mall for a year, there's no question, I'm on the island.

clearing allied sea mines when they were struck by one of their own mines

Minesweepers don't typically drop mines, they find them, and neutralize them. In this case, the 'their' seems to imply a mine dropped by one of the 'allies', not necessarily from their own ship.

My point was... when lifetime appointment was first offered, it pretty much was a 20 year term limit, thanks to nature.

I'm not a huge fan of lifetime appointments in government. It feels a little too much like 'royalty' to me. Next stop: their first born son inherits their seat on the bench.

I doubt they'd be penalized, but I'll admit, it's possible, so it's a fair argument.

The problem for me, is that 'lifetime appointment' was created when a lifetime was typically under 65 years. That's not the case now. That, and Alzheimer's.

'Term limit' != 'job taken from them'.

They won't lose their job over a decision, they lose it in a fixed time, and they know when that will be.

I live in America, so I couldn't care less about this.

On the other hand, a lot of other people don't live in America, and on their behalf, I thank you.

You're one of the most pompous sons of bitches I've run across here in 4 years, and that says a lot.

See! I knew there was something we could agree on!

edit:

You had nothing to share in your original comment, just some pompous shit about how you do open source to get better jobs or whatever, and that you don't believe people do it for other reasons.

You need to work on reading comprehension. That's not what I said at all, I'd repeat it, but if you didn't get it the first time, you won't get it now.

I'm a bit saddened by this.

a) you never posted a link in reply to me, so it's pretty stupid on your part to expect me to have watched it.

b) your goal was 'to get a rise out of me'? Ok, so I was right when I asked if you were 13.

c) reddit isn't a 'job', it's a place to share ideas, and learn new things. If your 'job is done here', then please, go back to digg.

On the bright side, you keep your tag, and you'll be really proud of the fact that you're the first person I have tagged (after having RES installed for over 2 years). You'll smile smugly, and I'll still think you're an asshole. Neither of us wins, but you'll think you did.

Congrats.

That's a tricky question. I suggest you read the following, and decide for yourself.

I'm not defensive at all. I've been doing this shit for 30 years, a little twerp like you is nothing new to me.

PS. I told you I didn't want to hear more from you, thanks to this reply, and giving due credit to RES, you're now tagged as 'Fucking Moron'.

Feel free to continue the discussion, just don't expect me to reply.

(edit) PPS. If you scan my comments, you'll see that I'm not always an asshole, but I have to admit, you do inspire me to it. I say this to you, because there have been people I've hated on reddit, whose names are now orange. Sometimes, a little tough love leads to respect. And that works both ways.

Admit that I'm right, or prove that I'm wrong, and you're name will likely be orange. Continue to disagree, with no (apparent) base for your argument, and you'll just keep your tag.

The choice is yours.
