You do know that Agent Provocateur is an actual term, right? It's an undercover agent sent into the enemy's camp to cause chaos/incite violence with the aim of discrediting them by making the group look like criminals.

Yep - the first major mission was going to dinosaur times because they put a record of "correct history" in a time period where they knew humans couldn't find it, thus causing a temporal disruption

I love the look but its probably the one thing in this show that's really different than my mental image. I always saw it as having huge thick round towers that were melted, so they looked sort of like melty candlesticks.

Northern cavalry, Because few Northerners worship the Seven, they rarely choose to become knights. However, the warrior tradition of the North is very similar to that of knighthood. Heavy cavalrymen in the North serve a nearly identical function to knights in the South, and are considered knights in all but name.

If I recall, there's mention of it being odd that Rodrik Cassell is a knight because most northern men don't submit to knighthood because it's part of the Andal customs.

The Dornish retain the titles of Prince/Princess for House Martell. The north does not have the tradition of Knighthood, if I recall. So there are some historical differences.

Chemistry class. Junior year of high school.

Dateline: October 23, aka Mole Day aka the day that lines up with Avogadro's number - 6.02×10²³ defining the number of particles in one mole of substance

The teacher decided that it would be "fun" to have us do a bonus assignment where we had to make a stuffed mole. In this case though, it was not the measurement, but the nearly-blind, subterranean rodent. She distributed print out with fabric patterns to the class the week before, and on Mole Day we were supposed to have them complete.

Now, this was not an optional assignment, and I am far from crafty. I also didn't have parents who were willing to help teach me things like this. So, I went to the craft store, bought some stuffing, googly eyes, etc. Found an old tshirt. Figured out how to sew it together. It's not great, but it looked mole-ish. It was a dumb assignment, but I was trying my best.

Bring it into class. The teacher proceeds to publicly ridicule me for having done a "lazy job" of sewing and having a sloppy final product. Somehow this would make me bad at chemistry because I'm not detail oriented or something. Completely frustrating.

Thanks for the great critique. I agree that my opening is probably my weakest part. I sort of wanted to start with the drive in because it could establish place, but I understand why it could be less than interesting to a new reader. I've had this world in my head, and I think it was important for me at the beginning to just get a lot of that down on paper.

That said, I was thinking of maybe adding a prologue eventually, from the perspective of the man undertaking the ritual. Do you think that would do anything to address that concern?

Keeping it a bit mysterious, but setting that up. Either way, my thought is that by the time I've done another 90,000 or so words in this world, I'll start from the top again and focus on a more compelling intro.

Same with the dialogue punctuation - this is literally the first piece of fiction I've ever written outside of some class assignments back in high school. I know I have much to learn in terms of the "right" way to do things, but priority #1 for me at the moment is just telling the story.
