Double that?! I would put on pounds like a mofo. Then running would be even harder because I would have that additional weight to carry around. According to this calculator, I'm exactly where I should be as far as caloric intake goes.

Just because you're able to eat and never count calories, doesn't mean it is right for everyone. I have a history of eating disorders and calorie counting is the only way I can keep them under control. Also, I'm probably not pulling nearly as many miles as you (ie way more active than me) and you're probably a dude (ie taller, more muscular, more efficient at using energy stores).

I appreciate your feedback, but I have to respectfully disagree.

Diet is something I'm very focused on. I consume ~1500-1700 cals/day, 500 of which are lean protein, the rest from veggies, fruit, dairy, and grains. I gave up added sugar for the new year, so that isn't an issue. I'm overweight (5'4", 152lbs, female), so my goal is to also lose weight.

Running for duration is a very motivating idea. I was late for class because my 6 mile run took me so long. It was like a punishment for being slow. I think I will feel much better if I know I have 60 minutes (or whatever) to run, so I should try to get as far as I can in that time. Do you have any examples of duration-based (as opposed to distance-based) training plans?

I'm wondering if I can usually pull a 10:30 mile on a good day, if I should just multiply that by the number of miles I "should" be doing on that day and run for that many minutes. (So 10:30 x 6 miles = 63 minutes that day.)

I think my goal is to at least be able to run the whole thing without stopping, however slow I may be running. I already get teased about my super slow pace, so walking would make me feel even worse. I understand it takes a lot to even get out there. It's just that I was "that kid" in PE class who was stuck walking the mile run while everyone who was finished stood on the sidelines and laughed. Damn sad childhood.

Anyway, I like the concept of varying the pace to help with cramps. I already tack on an extra quarter mile to my runs so I can walk and stretch at the beginnings. That seems to help a bit.

Not sure if I have the right shoes. I have very wide feet and Asics seem to be good to me (well, for my budget). Recommendations?

All my runs are at a10:30-11:00/mile pace, regardless of distance. Does this mean I should be speeding up my shorter runs?

And about finding someone else who's struggling- that's really a great idea. My husband just recently took up an interest in running. Even though he's already much faster than me, he has helped me get through the longer runs.

What does your strength training schedule look like?

Unfortunately, I only have one pace (10:30-11:00/mile). It's so slow, I couldn't imagine running my long runs any slower. :(

2.The amateur runner in me comes out when I say this: I have one speed of running- slow. (10:30-11:00/mile) I've never tried to change my pace, just get through the runs. Since I've never run anything farther than about a 10k, I don't even know what to put into the calculator. Should I be trying to increase the pace of my shorter (2-4 mile) runs?

3.What type of strength program do you follow? I find that unless I have a set lifting plan, I just mess around and don't make any progress. I'm curious what helps other runners.

While I was finishing P90X, I would be running the distances listed for Tues, Thurs, and Sun, then doing an hour of strength training on Mon, Wed, and Sat. For the past couple of weeks, I've JUST been running on those 3 days and, well, ignoring the other 3. (After completion/boredom of my strength workouts, I need to switch it up but have left myself in workout limbo in the meanwhile.)

Super Moronic Monday — Your Weekly Stupid Question Thread by seydarin running

Even dumber question- How exactly does one get their form checked, like, officially?

I've heard of advice from shoe sales reps, but I'm not too keen on the idea of taking advice from someone who's trying to sell me something.

I'm training for a half. My friend wants to join me in my training plan, but doesn't do any form of exercise. He joined me for a few sessions, 4-5 miles each and kept up very well. Now his joints hurt.

Too much too soon?

You look fantastic! Regardless of the number, you have great progress. I'd say you have a decent chance of winning. Keep up the good work!

60 minutes: Is sugar toxic? by stankaaronin Fitness

[–]WordsLikeFit 5 points6 points ago

I have an insane sweet tooth (read: binge trigger) and decided to give up all added sugars for New Year's. It's been 3 months and I've learned a few things about myself:

  • No sugar means fewer cravings for sugar.
  • Sugar is in EVERYTHING (low calorie salad dressings, seasoning mixes, sauces, light yogurts, nearly all cereals, etc.).
  • People think I'm nuts when I buy products meant for diabetics.
  • Physically, I feel amazing. I'm dropping weight slowly, but surely.

60 day progress and I'm really disappointed by mmmjagsin P90X

[–]WordsLikeFit 0 points1 point ago

It's okay. I was realizing I was dreading the entire P90X plan because of the yoga. It was killing my good vibes. I replaced it with running and never looked back.
