It would be literally translated as "sewing" or "dressmaking". It's usually combined with the word "haute" or "high". So it's "high sewing", as in the pinnacle of the art.

More loosely translated, it just means "high fashion". Though I suppose someone in the industry would be pretty likely to shorten "haute couture" to just "couture". Just like I have a ton of techy shorthand terms with my web developer friends/coworkers.

Some parts had more than others. Around the warehouse/indoor scene there was only one set. After that, in the city scene there were quite a few. Of course he may have just been tooling around and improvising a lot there, and they just took the best shots.

Mythbusters did something similar, and the major problem they ran in to is that the sun actually moves across the sky very rapidly, meaning they constantly had to adjust their mirrors in order to maintain lighting.

Now, if you had a computer controlled mirror on an actuator that could track the sun, you could lessen that problem. You could potentially use a track of mirrors that were all oriented properly, but you'd need to adjust seasonally.
