What's the best way to get rid of dandelions? by imkaneforeverin yard

[–]VicinSea 0 points1 point ago

Eat the young leaves(3"-4") in salad. They taste like arugula.

Pull up dandelions and dry the root. Grind the dried root and steep it in water for a very heart-healthy tea.

Gather the yellow petals to make dandelion tea or wine. If you do this with every flower you see, your dandelions would never get a chance to go to seed.

The white sap in dandelions is very close to latex and could be used as a glue or to water-proof fabric, although this would be a pretty darn tedious(slow) process.

Help me eat my veggies. by higgyskiggyin food

[–]VicinSea 2 points3 points ago

The word salad comes from the words for salt. In most of the world salad means pickled or fermented vegetables like sauerkraut or kimshi. Maybe your inner barbarian is telling you that lettuce isn't "real" salad.

There are a lot of other ways to eat veggies beside a side salad.

Salsa with chips

Sauerkraut sauted with apples and sausage.

Dilly green beans with virgin bloody Mary.

Slow roasted squash, onions, carrots, and potatoes rolled up in a soft tortilla.

Liabilities for Social Security, Medicare and other retirement programs rose by $3.7 trillion in 2011, according to government actuaries, but the amount was not registered on the government's books.

Because those liabilities are still fully covered by current payments.

This is BS.

UN WHO says most Fukushima radiation doses below norms by tt23in energy

[–]VicinSea 2 points3 points ago

That headline makes no sense to me.

How can "most" be below the "norm"(average)? By definition exactly half would be below and half would be above, right?

If the headline means "most radiation doses from Fukushima are below normal radiation doses." How does that work? Did Fukushima suck up background radiation from the surrounding area so now there are some people getting less that they did before the accident?

A Level Playing Field Cuts Both Ways: Why We Should Encourage More Chinese Investment In U.S. Clean Energy by davidreiss666in Green

[–]VicinSea 0 points1 point ago

Great! The Chinese will be selling us energy too?? Our Trade Deficient is high enough without adding that to the mix. The Chinese need to clean up their own energy before they export their idea of clean energy to the rest of the world.

I never knew renting in North Admiral was such serious business by Inspector_7in Seattle

West Seattle is no where near downtown if you have to bus or pay for parking. The buses suck and parking is $10-25 a day depending on how far you want to walk and how good your insurance is.

The kitchen is relatively pleasant and functional,

I think not, for anyone who actually cooks. I guess that's why this is a "single guy" apartment?

The rent is astronomical! I pay $840 for 2 bedrooms on the other side of the bridge.

Is this email about the Groupon settlement legit? by owkin Frugal

[–]VicinSea 0 points1 point ago

Yes. It is actually a good deal for the merchants who sell on Groupon. For example, I sell a deal for $12.00. I get $6.00. Once the deals are expired, I can collect another $12.00 by honoring the Groupon as a cash discount. So, I get a total of $18 for something I originally was willing to take $6.00 for. I have no idea why merchants don't honor the deals.

BTW, as a merchant, I am told and I have to sign an affidavit that I understand that the cash value of the deal never expires. Again, I have no idea why merchants do not want to continue honoring the deals they sold.

Don't you know the mayonnaise trick? by monabonain Cooking

Yep, me too. The odds are so small and if you get the disease(like a terrible case of the flu)...the odds of dieing are also extremely small...less than 1%.

Also, eggs are not even refrigerated in most of the world. Here in the US, we are are so removed from our food that most Americans don't know that nature keeps eggs fresh for weeks and then still allows the eggs to be hatched. I am not sure most Americans even want to know that fertile eggs are alive.

In the US, we get them right next to regular eggs. Outside the US, they are not available, as far as I know.

Anyone concerned about the risk of Salmonella from raw eggs? I make a lot of dishes that contain raw eggs and I never worry much about it but anyone who might be worried could use pasteurized eggs to be double safe. ;-)

I sell stuff on Groupon and I got a message that included this:

If you have any further questions, please refer to the following website which contains information on the settlement: http://grouponvouchersettlement.com, call (800) 589-1256, or email groupon_notice@grouponvouchersettlement.com. You may also, as always, reach out to your sales representative or account manager. If you would like to leave a message for us concerning this settlement only, please do so by emailing settlement@groupon.com or by calling us at (877) 263-4646 and we will respond as soon as possible. This number is only monitored for settlement-related questions. We thank you for your continued partnership and for your patience as we work to resolve this matter in everyone's favor.

So, yes...I think it is legit.

Basically, if you pay $10...it is worth $10 forever...even after the deal is expired.

Law enforcement in Cascadia. by cascadia_clayin Cascadia

[–]VicinSea -2 points-1 points ago

I vote for minimal law enforcement, vigilantes, tattooing of criminals and public shunning.

So, someone trys to rob a store, other customers subdue him and tattoo "robber" on his forehead...after that people can decide whether to interact with him or ignore him.
