(Spoiler ADWD) Borroq by Caegin asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 2 points3 points ago

Ghost was agitated because he could sense the danger, similar to Grey Wind's reaction outside the Twins, not because of the boar's scent. Sorry, I don't mean this to sound rude but you point to things as "too clear" as support for your theory then turn around and take others completely at face value. Frankly, I think it's a stretch.

The prologue and Bran's chapters show us human warging is possible, fair enough. But we've never seen any evidence that you can warg into more than one thing at a time. I think you might be right that Borroq will play a larger role than previously expected but I don't think he had anything to do with Jon's assassination, it's just too convoluted.

(Spoiler ALL) Questions about young Griff. by conjr94in asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 43 points44 points ago

I think the single strongest piece of evidence that Young Griff is actually a Blackfyre is Illyrio's line to Tyrion regarding the Golden Company, "Some contracts are writ in ink, and some in blood."

The Golden Company was founded by Bittersteel, a Blackfyre exile, and they seem commendably loyal to their history (as far as sellswords go), explaining why they're willing to drop everything for Young Griff.

Powerful laser hits Toronto-area police helicopter by jeevyin worldnews

[–]Trojandoors 1 point2 points ago

The article was also off-base on why pointing lasers at aircraft is illegal. Sensors on (certain) aircraft detect lasers because they are a common method of acquiring a target lock for anti-aircraft missiles (usually in the infrared spectrum). Pointing a laser at a helicopter or a plane equipped with one of these systems may cause the pilot to take unnecessary evasive action and put lives at risk.

As far as I know, all commercial airliners are capable of detecting lasers pointed at them. FedEx actually uses a system on their planes that attempts to break a laser-based lock, it's pretty cool.

When I have a thought, it comes to me in more or less complete sentences internally. Reddit, how would you describe how your thoughts form? (shapes, colors, emotions, words, etc.) by Trojandoorsin AskReddit

Do you ever find it hard or impossible to put a visual concept into words? I'm starting to think that by thinking in words there are some thoughts that I actually cannot have.

GRRM doesn't often mix up his details like that. While it's pretty clear he's a FM, there's no proof Jaqen H'ghar hasn't gone rogue.

(Spoiler all) AA reborn by conffrain asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 4 points5 points ago

Just wanted to point out that Aemon does not implicate Dany as Azor Ahai reborn. He does believe that she is the "Prince who was promised", thus his explanation that the prophecy was in High Valyrian and used the word 'dragon' which are neither male nor female so prince could be princess in this case.

There's a lot of debate on whether AA-reborn and TPWWP are the same person (or exist at all), I personally believe they are distinct.

It's Jon in the first case too, not Cat -- he's saying goodbye to Robb at the gate just after he visits Bran, if I recall.

(Spoiler ALL) Jaqen on his way north... by guzbain asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 2 points3 points ago

I read an interesting expansion to the Euron-intrigue a while ago: Euron paid for the FM assassination of Balon with a dragon egg he recovered from Valyria. The evidence being that when he tells Victarion that he once had a dragon egg, but threw it overboard during one of his dark moods, this is an offhand coverup for the real story. This is consistent with the idea that FM don't necessarily charge you anything, but ask you for something dear to you; as you pointed out, Euron has a keen interest in dragons.

Only tangentially related but your last idea about the NW and the Wall made me think: "A wall is only as strong as the men who defend it." Another piece to the idea that the Wall may literally fall when/if the NW does.

I'm sorry you got downvoted because I think you raise a good question. Personally, I would like the demand for dogs bred for aggressiveness to decline which would in turn make breeders less likely to invest time into breeding aggressive dogs.

Just because I mention my personal distaste for these dogs doesn't mean that I've forgotten they're animals.. Similar to the moral responsibility humans as a whole should feel for the deformities and mutations we've heaped upon dogs through pure-breeding, we should be willing to accept responsibility for breeding dangerous animals. If we do anything about them, it should of course be humane.

You defend typically dangerous breeds one minute and then admit that they're more prone to violence the next. I'm confused. My family and I have always been responsible pet owners so I understand where you're coming from; dog attacks are preventable. It's my opinion though that people should own dogs that aren't likely to attack in the first place.

Because people don't understand it's not the selective breeding that makes them aggressive, it's the owners, or lack thereof.

You're right, selective breeding for aggression does not directly cause an individual dog to be aggressive or dangerous. However, I believe you're missing the point that the breeders who originally created the Pit Bull breed were trying to make dogs that are aggressive. You can't deny their clearly defined goals, so try to understand those of us who would be happier living in a world where dogs weren't specifically bred to hunt and kill and later invited to be pets in our neighborhood.

Personal history with aggressive dogs: my dad was attacked by our neighbor's doberman guard dogs when they got loose and another neighbor's pit bull broke out of his enclosure and mauled one of our cats in our house.

(Spoiler ALL) Who is the most tragic character? by boozernamein asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 2 points3 points ago

I think Tyrion should be #1 on this list so I'll add a few more:

  • During the Battle of the Blackwater, he is disfigured and almost murdered by a member of the Kingsguard, presumably on orders from one of his family members.
  • The whole Tysha backstory, that should be enough to land him in the top 3 right there.
  • He is falsely accused of murdering his nephew and, despite a city full of kin, no one but a stranger from Dorne will stand for his innocence.
  • He discovers that Shae has been sleeping with his father for some amount of time; the second time that Tywin has stolen a woman which Tyrion loved.
  • He spends a good 2 or 3 months contemplating suicide every day as an atonement for his deeds.
  • He managed to scorn Jaime, the only person he truly loves anymore.

ADWD questions. by henryfinlayin asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 4 points5 points ago

I think kcintlob is right here. I believe Aemon mentions some doubts about Lightbringer to Sam as well in AFFC but never makes any hint about Jon.

This just made me think of something though. Aemon also doesn't mention Lightbringer or anything about Azor Ahai when he goes on his illness-driven rant about Dany later in the book. Seems like evidence that the AA and TPWWP prophecies are distinct from one another, though this is definitely still up in the air.

Opponents of L+R=J, how do you feel about this piece of evidence? (Spoiler Speculation ALL) by gorillapoopin asoiaf

[–]Trojandoors 5 points6 points ago

I'd just like to add that I think Varamyr's prologue to ADWD is specifically meant to fill us in on something: when wargs die, they exist in their closest animal companion.

Granted, Varamyr was an extremely powerful skinchanger and his essence kinda flew over the woods until he found One-Eye AND Jon had only shifted into Ghost in his dreams.. regardless, I believe the prologue was intentional evidence that Jon is in Ghost now at the very least, if not still alive.

[Spoiler FfC] Who is this character in reality? by sarpedonxin asoiaf

Yep, Pate refers to him as the Alchemist before apparently dying at the end of AFFC's prologue.
