IAMA Tim Hortons Supervisor AMA by ThumpahdaWolfin IAmA

It was meant as a joke because of all the people who are pissed about new sizes. Try explaining it to someone, it takes ages to figure out what size they want.

It depends on location. My store does close the loby but has DT 24 hours. I'm in a realyl shady area, so people who walk up to the window are usually homeless, or looking for handouts. We don't usually get upset, were just being cautious. We don't want to get robbed or spit on by crazies.

For us, it's a push to try and get DD's business. They call it turbo shots, we call it espresso. Almost everything we do is cheaper as well. Were doing everything we can to steal their business.

Honestly couldn't tell you. I haven't had to ratio out the machines in about a year. I don't remember what the mL's are.

It's not policy, it's just a human nature thing. Like how if you put a dot in a urinal, men will pee on that exact spot. Most of the time people do it without even thinking. They just like to line things up. We don't do any training on stuff like where to put the lid.

Yup, Tim Hortons was one dude. He needed to supplement his income from playing hockey, so he opened up a coffe/donut shop. Thats what our training vids have been telling us for years, so I'm not sure how true it is.

It has to do with the english to french translation. They asked to have it removed because I guess it means something else, or it's just bad grammar.

I've had my fair share. I've never lost my temper with a customer. I will be a bit short, but it's the after when I lose it. Most common thing we did was to walkg out back, go in the freezer and scream as loud as possible. It's foot thick metal, nobody can hear you. That, and punch a box, hard. Then, return as though nothing happened.

Ah the bloom dounuts. They are a complete pain in the ass to make, and they really aren't all that popular. They bring them back all the time, and we always moan and groan when we see them come in on the truck.

I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Krispy Kreme has that market pretty much completely. DD isn't even down there.

Yeah, no problem. I honestly like that my owner works in his stores. He comes in, he talks with customers and get to know them. We do all kinds of charity stuff for the community. Feels like he cares a lot more about his stores.

I make them buy at least a timbit. I don't give free water, because it's not free for me. I'm paying for the water, the cup, the lid and the straw. Pay for a 20 cent timbit, I'll give you a water.

True, a lot of people just say 2 and 2 or extra sugar. The biggest thing is that DD and Us do cream and sugar completely different. We have our shots ratioed out so that a small double double will taste the same as an XL double double. DD uses sizes numbered 1-4 so some people order things like 8 and 8, which is almost no coffe in the cup. Lots of misconception with it.

Lots of them in the A.M. peak times. People stocking up for the whole morning.

You'll get used to it, and it means that people won't get confused when they come down to the states. Same sizes in both countries. And honestly, was the small really that popular? I've seen it a few times and it looks like the same O.Z.s as a shot glass.

I know that Maine is looking to expand soon. We had surveyers come around asking where people were coming from and where they are going to try to find a new place to put one. But honestly, don't move down to the states unless your ready to WORK IN THE STORE! Speaking from a lot of experience, and a few stories from corporate get togethers, Canadian owners sit at home, hire a manager to do everything and then wait for the money to roll in. In the USA, DD and McDonalds are seriously competitive, and the owners all work in their stores 7 days a week, any time of the day or night. If you'r willing to give up your life to the store, you'll like it. We're still a commodity here, so the money isn't easy like it is in Canada.
