Alternative to official minis? by phaqueuein DnD

[–]TheSSF 0 points1 point ago

I just use Eldritch gems, very cheap online. http://www.thediceshoponline.com/dice-sets/353/Eldritch-Gems

A cheap marker and each player can put an initial on their gem. Fighters use blue while rangers use yellow. I use other gems for enemies and the odd figure for a boss, when I can.

Just ignore that clicking sound. It does that every few miles, it's nothing to worry about.

I may be an Irish bunny, and I spent the day with some other Irish furs...

But all we did was play dungeons and dragons and watch some anime o.o

Why are furries so touchy feely?! by Meollain furry

[–]TheSSF 19 points20 points ago

A lot of the time us furries are simply seen as more accepting, and open about things like cuddling. Some people see it as fun, but often it's just the norm in the fandom, furries have their own culture, and in it cuddles are socially acceptable. Part of it may be to do with the animal link, but I guess a lot of it is simply because people enjoy doing it. I know plenty of furs who refuse to cuddle with people they are not extremely close to, while I know others who would yiff you soon as look at you.

It's fun! As with most things in the fandom, folks do it because they like doing it. Since it's something looked upon as odd in normal social conventions most people stick to the internet with cuddles, plus it's an easy way to express your pleasure to meet someone. However I know a few super cuddly furs in real life, and I must add, some very 'touchy-feely' humans too.

TL;DR Some people like cuddles, it's accepted in the fandom and it's fun.

Dear Satanists: Why Satan? by fora-mejorain DebateReligion

[–]TheSSF 0 points1 point ago

Ah, possibly. It's not something I've really looked into, to be honest, just seen this pop up.

I'm almost sure one of the commandments clearly expresses distaste towards discrimination on grounds of Religion, Race, Sexual Orientation, Age, Gender etc. I must look this up...

I've wondered about this too. From what I understand he punishes the evil, and it is implied he works for/with god in Job. Most of the Satanists I know are the typical metal-heads who just go for the shock and awe factor.

However, as far as I understand, Satanism does actually teach some rather good morals to folks, so I don't know. Shrugs

In the game I'm hosting, the bard brings his own ukulele. I give him a +1 to any skill check he makes a song about.

Best Goblins comic for introducing your friends? by Noumenon72in DnD

[–]TheSSF 1 point2 points ago

First of all, I'm glad I helped you get into Goblins, it's an awesome comic! As for Goblins, and OOTS, I read both of them before I was really remotely into DnD. The fantasy aspects, combined with the humor, art and general story were enough to keep me reading. Yeah, some of the DnD jokes went right over my head, but so long as you think you're friends will be into that sort of thing, then regardless of if they play or not they should enjoy it.

And a lot of the Dungeons and Dragons references are understandable without a working knowledge of the game.

Help with a very lethal campaign. by Martic11in DnD

[–]TheSSF 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty new to all this stuff, but how's this for an idea? Make a dungeon crawl for them, a nice, not too challenging one with good rewards. Make it a little bit of a cake-walk. However, at the end of the dungeon let them find another, a perception check to find a hidden entrance or a note detailing one. Then you can let the fun begin.

Try to make it creepy, the use of a little bit of clichéd undead, necromancers and such. Make it tough, but doable. Make them struggle to get to the end, and when they do, make the encounter unwinnable. After the struggle have them wake up, bound, and being ready to be sacrificed. Give them another difficult, but doable encounter. The belief their characters have actually been killed, followed by the glimmer of hope at the end should have them nice and involved, I think.

Also, you could try using a mixture of greed traps and lurkers, as if it was a horror movie. Kill them off one by one, traps like a room filled with gold, but if a single piece leaves the room, the last person left will be killed, or having them picked off for straggling/splitting the party. Make them paranoid about each feature of the dungeon, and them give them an ultimatum at the end, x amount of loot to resurrect the lost members.

These sort of things, while not inherently scary, should probably help them play a little more seriously. No one likes losing a character.

First timers here, we wanted to buy this but don't know if it's good to start off with... by weso9980in DnD

[–]TheSSF 1 point2 points ago

Yes and no. The Red Box is a good start off point, but you could do without. If you want to buy it, you can get it much cheaper on eBay, or elsewere. I don't believe it usually costs more than £20.

What's wrong with 4E? by TheSSFin DnD

[–]TheSSF[S] 1 point2 points ago

Oh boy, I just might have done that. I might delete this thing...

3.5 sounds pretty cool, but I like the simplicity of 4E, especially since a lot of the people playing my game are completely new to the whole genre of gaming. Some of them are quite young too, so I think 4E is perfect. 3.5 sounds like something for people more associated with RPG's, and something I will have to try out at a later stage :D

[–]TheSSF[S] 2 points3 points ago

Oh wow, I never realized there was such a huge difference in the two games. I love 4E, but I'm definitely going to have to get around to playing 3.5 when I can.

Once I buy the necessary stuff, of course.
