PolitiFact backs author's claim, "Obama has indeed presided over the slowest growth in spending of any president" by Anomaly100in politics

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 1 point2 points ago

Politifact's credibility is important when considering what they are saying about something. His post wasn't meant to drag the discussion off topic, it was to call into doubt Politifacts credibility.

To avoid harming something just because it feels pain is simply impractical.

Impractical? I think the word you meant to use there is inconvenient.

Denver police beat a peaceful man literally to death (revived by EMT's), with witnesses, slap him with fake felony charges and ruin his whole life. 4 years later, no disciplinary action for the officers and PD still stalling the legal process. by baggytheoin Libertarian

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 1 point2 points ago

I've heard it said Libertarians are made, not born. I always thought the American government and its justice system worked about as well as one could expect a government to work. Not perfect, but perfection is impossible. Some mistakes, but generally doing the right thing. It took being burned for me to see past that generalization I had made my whole life.

To expand on this... After one beating awhile ago where the state had to pay out over $1m to the victim, they also had to install an independent police monitor that would review complaints that came up and recommend action to the department.

The monitor has numerous recommended police be removed from the force, etc... the Department never takes the advice, even when it is blatantly obvious they should be removed.

Once an officer has shown they are willing to perjure themselves to convict someone innocent, how can you possibly keep them on the force? It is insane, but it happens multiple times a year.

Department of Justice is probing the DPD right now for civil rights violations because of all of the beatings, they haven't decided what to do yet.

Yes!

Keep in mind, these guys could be selling these exploits to third parties with malicious intent for them for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Instead, they release them for free in order to help everyone jailbreak.

Make it worth their while.

If Season 6 was so bad, Why are you all so excited for 7 and have tons of theories crafted as to what we were left with from the last? by TheChrizbyin Dexter

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 1 point2 points ago

I fail to see how there needed to be more conflict. She obviously loves Dexter more than anyone, and season 5 already set up that she didn't think morality was as black and white as she thought it was, and that if someone is killing bad people, it may be okay to let things slide.

The love story is completely unnecessary. Family love trumps romantic love in most cases... There is no one I, nor most people I know, would behave immorally for if they were in trouble or they did something wrong. I would never turn my brother in even if I knew he had killed someone, with some exceptions.

There was certainly enough there already to make it plausible that she wouldn't turn him in.

How do you determine what is a metaphor and what is literal in the Bible? by Naysin27in DebateAChristian

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 0 points1 point ago

It says how we know when we're at the intended meaning, and it says how objective meanings can be found.

Everyone has their reasons for why they think they have arrived at the intended meaning... that doesn't somehow give it credibility. Please tell me why you think that fixes the problem. There are assumptions being made, and many christians (probably most) do not agree with those assumptions.

The only answer you will get to this question is hand waving trying to obscure the fact that it is always up to interpretation.

Would a happy ending be bad afterall? [spoilers] by TheChrizbyin Dexter

[–]TheIceCreamPirate -1 points0 points ago

I believe most babies would qualify. But we don't hold the standard of empathy to them because they are not fully developed yet. Dexter is still developing as a person, and he has shown the development of empathy.

Are you kidding me? You seriously just compared a baby (we've all read the onion article about that by the way) to an adult psychopath, insofar as the psychopath is "still growing."

What are you talking about? You are just making things up. Dexter is not "still developing" as a baby is "still developing."

Developing as a person is not the same thing as developing physically. Psychopaths don't "develop" into better people with empathy. That is the point, there is something wrong with their brains that prevents them from feeling empathy.

I'm not sure why you think you have to go Vegan. I don't see anything wrong with eating cheese, or eggs, or milk, etc.

No, you don't need them to survive. That used to be the case, but it is entirely possible to live healthy without eating meat in today's world.

Why is eating animals okay? by scarmadonin DebateAnAtheist

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 14 points15 points ago

This answer is pretty much a cop out. It's not about having empathy, it is about knowing you are causing mass numbers of living things to feel a lot of pain purely so you can enjoy how they taste.

I was only recently able to admit to myself that there is no defense to eating meat. That being said, I continue to eat it, and I don't plan on stopping. No cognitive dissonance here, but still feels bad being a hypocrite.

What are some laws that you believe everyone should know but doesn't? by Stacks_On_Deckin law

[–]TheIceCreamPirate 3 points4 points ago

I'll provide a better example.

There was a sting awhile back where they had an undercover police officer sit in a park topless. When men would come by, she would start talking to them, and then ask them to show her their junk. Of course, the men would accept, and then they would be charged with a crime.

That is pretty clearly entrapment, as it can hardly be argued that the person would have committed that crime had they not been induced to by the cop. They weren't seeking out a sexual experience in a park, like a john seeks out a prostitute... they were just walking by.

They get into your stomach in undercooked pork, not your brain. Granted, a tapeworm in your stomach isn't the best, but it isn't that bad either.

The eggs are supposed to go from human feces into the pigs stomach, then into the pigs bloodstream, then into the pigs muscles and grow into cysts, at which point humans eat them, and they grow into tapeworms in the stomach.

Brain infection only occurs when eggs go from human feces to food and is then eaten.

Yeah, 2000 people in the U.S... You really need to be worried.

You should probably stop walking near streets too because you've probably got a better chance of getting hit by a car while walking than you do of getting infected with one of these. And forget about actually riding in a car.

The article clearly states this only happens when someone's feces taints food that someone else eats. To not eat meat because of it makes no sense.

Why do so many people seem to forget that the show is about a psychopath...
