When Muldoon and Elle go to the wreck she tracks the edge of the exhibit and then finds the moat, looks down and sees the other car. Being an amusement park the moats separating enclosures and employee access areas (drainage area by the look of it) are blended into the environment lots of wild animal parks do this. I would say the scene was edited for your excitement instead of thrown in carelessly. I could barely get up the 20 foot rope in gym class without being winded let alone several stories, I'll go with Grant and take the long way around.
