In a way, I relate this thing somewhat to people who don't vote but complain about politicians in office. Ok so you don't like what the large community you consider yourself a part of has become but at the same time your vote, or in this case your submissions and comments, is part of what that community is. So even if your candidate isn't elected, or your submission doesn't reach the front page, at least you can say "I'm voicing my opinions and trying to make positive change in a community I care about"
