Penn Jillette: Voting For Lesser Of Two Evils Always Leads To More Evil by underweargnome04in politics

[–]TSC -1 points0 points ago

Silly. Not voting for the lesser of two evils means you haven't done a thing to prevent the greater of two evils taking power. I mean, honestly... in a situation where there is legitimately a choice only between two evils, by definition there is no third option. And in a two party system? Well. I'll let you do the math.

Logic.

Well, okay... but it's a cramped, noisy hole in the ground. I like good beer and no TV as much as the next guy, but the atmosphere in this place absolutely kills it for me. It's like someone's basement. I mean, great that you like it, but I can't stand the place. I guess the appeal comes down to "some people like things that I don't."

Which, as I say, is great. Different strokes and all that. But it also means I'm not missing out on something I would like since, you know, I just don't like it.

Ah... well. I'd disagree, but I guess it's just not my kind of place. Glad you enjoy it there.

Could you explain the appeal of that place? I found it cramped and loud.

And I'd add that you might want to catch a film there. Yep. They do that. They show Dr. Strangelove a lot.

Yep. I was there a month ago.

Er... I'd imagine that the reason the larger sizes have lower availability is because they ordered fewer of them to start with. Because they're less commonly ordered by customers than the smaller sizes.

ME2 is fantastic, IMO, but it is a shooter with RPG elements, unlike ME1, which was more an RPG with shooter elements.

I do count ME and ME2 as some of my favourite games of all time, though.

Just FYI: you are going to get yelled at. And you should get yelled at. You came into an atheist forum and insulted atheists. You've been warned.

I'd recommend holding off until BW release the free ending DLC in the next couple of months. If it reviews well, then you definitely should get the game. If no one likes it... well. Wait until it's in a discount bin.

We haven't proved that there is no deity of some kind. That seems to be the really big one, doesn't it? At the very least, and for that reason, deism hasn't been discredited. There's just no reason whatsoever to believe it.

That's essentially the position that Dawkins takes, by the way - there's no reason to believe in a deity and it's very unlikely that there is one... but it's incorrect to state categorically that we know no deity exists. The same is true of fairies and other claptrap.

The problem is neither religion nor the people involved in it. The problem is evidence. Or, rather, the lack of evidence.

Let me put it this way:

1) I know General Relativity is true because we have piles of solid experimental evidence showing it to be true. Because I know it's true, I believe it.

2) I know phlogiston theory isn't true because we have evidence disproving it. Because I know it isn't true, I don't believe it.

3) I am agnostic as to whether the theory that mermaids live under the surface of Europa is true because we don't have good evidence either way, yet. But because it's an extraordinary claim that I don't know is true or not, I don't believe it. Because why would I believe something like that if the person claiming it can't prove it? If we got evidence showing it to be true, I would believe it (and if we got evidence showing it to be false, I would continue not to believe it).

Religion falls into category three. There is no evidence either way, so we must be agnostic as to it. But because it's an extraordinary claim with zero supporting evidence, our agnosticism means we must not believe it until and if compelling positive evidence is presented.

This has nothing to do with religion or people; this has everything to do with religions making unsupported claims about reality.
