Does anyone else think the level cap is bullshit? by Fensusin diablo3

[–]SuperRunAway 0 points1 point ago

At first I would have agreed with you, but then I realized that you get new runes etc up until level 60. I find that to be a fair trade off. Like others have said, there will probably be a level cap raise anyway with expansions, which makes me excited, given that there will be new stuff above 60 to use if this is the case.

Actually, if you have colonies on 2 or less of your home planets, you lose your power.

As a medic, how I use grenades in BF3... by not_case_sensitivein battlefield3

[–]SuperRunAway 0 points1 point ago

Whenever possible I rush the person who throws a grenade at me to catch them in the weapon change and kill them (they show up on the minimap so it's ezpz). I always do this if the thrown grenade makes it so that all the hidden spaces in my area are going to be covered by the blast. I see other people do this to me too, so I am wondering how plausible this strategy actually is.

I think the two of you should each find two more friends and a few hours of time and then play Rex.

I can't really find any 2 player games outside of the popular ones in the top ten that I can recommend :(.

[WSIG] Looking to get some new games by pookinin boardgames

[–]SuperRunAway 0 points1 point ago

I'm just going to throw in one that you haven't been looking at for a bit of pizzaz:

Castles of Burgundy. It's less popular than the ones you've mentioned, but so fun. It has some very unique and extremely fun mechanics. It's AMAZING with 2 - 3 players as well.

All the games you mentioned are fine, but you don't really have a defined taste as it seems the only game you're actively playing at the moment is Power Grid. For that reason I can't really recommend one over the other.

How many of you have to deal with this type of player? by leegethasin boardgames

[–]SuperRunAway 1 point2 points ago

This is more or less how I run my games. I find when when playing in this way, people generally have far more fun, are more relaxed and take less time on their turns.

The people who play with the "piece laid piece played," or "no take back," mentality indiscriminately are the only people who get frustrated.

Inexpensive games for 2-6 players? by Musaiin boardgames

[–]SuperRunAway 4 points5 points ago

Given the restrictions, this is the best I could come up with that I have played and approve.

For 2 - 4: RTFG. Very good with 2 - 4. It DOES expand to 6 players when you get all the expansions, but I don't recommend it with 6.

2 - 7: Bohnanza is pretty fun. Not that fun with 2 though.

2 - 7: 7 Wonders. It's currently around 7 dollars over your budget on amazon, but I thought that I would mention it anyway. You really need 4+ players to make this game fun though.

2 - 5: Glory to Rome. It's just great fun. your FLGS should have it for around $20.

These are all card games and none of them are deck building games. there is a better world outside the deckbuilding world.

If you must go with deck builders, try Ascension. It is 3 cents over budget. I linked the new expo/standalone as it's the best version yet. It's a light deck builder that I find to be a ton of fun. Not everyone gets into it though, so I suggest checking out some reviews. Very good with 2 players and fits 2 - 4.

[–]SuperRunAway 0 points1 point ago

I own all the games you are looking at, so here's my opinion on them:

7 Wonders is fine with 4 players.

You're right about Pandemic.

Small World is fun. But as it's been said, it gets old pretty quickly.

Cosmic Encounter is a great game. Since I got it, it's been the most requested and played game at my board game nights. Aside from the scifi theme and that you use cards, it has nothing in common with RFTG. The "playing with your opponents" thing you mention is in every game you've mentioned in one way or another (except for pandemic obviously).

Eminent Domain Is a simple yet fairly deep game that has a deck building mechanic along with many other mechanics borrowed from other games. It's fast and easy to play. I like it a lot, though it took me about 5 games to really appreciate it as I felt my time was better spent playing the games it borrowed from.

I suggest looking at Glory to Rome instead of EmDo, as it's quite a bit more complex, fun and rewarding. It's also easier to teach than RFTG, which I think you will appreciate. They are similar in the "follow or descent"/"follow or think" mechanic (EmDo took the mechanic from GtR).

Nice gradient.

How do you like Kingdom Builder? I was considering this game for myself, but decided on something else at the time and need to know if that was a bad idea.

What do you think of Nightfall and Kings and Things?

One more question because you are into trading games. Are there any games you've traded away that you now regret trading and why?

A 3 month itch and you couldn't stop itching yourself to take a steady shot of your game collection? I suggest getting that looked at.

Collection looks good so far, but I still see some space left on in that nook that needs filling :).

Smart move. Incursion is a great expansion for the reward deck. Of course, more aliens are never a bad thing in CE.

I have all three myself and they are all amazing and I highly recommend them if you end up liking the game. Alliance is the weakest to date because the new alliance mechanic is dumb and we don't use it at all. Otherwise it's a fine expansion.

Sounds like an amazing time. FYI First play through of CE was around an hour for my group (5 people) and first play through of Rex for 6 of us (the best number for this game) was around 4 hours.

I did get turned off trying that game after watching the SU&SD episode about it. Did they get it wrong or do the amazing aspects of the game just overshadow the problems that were talked about?

Thank you. You've nailed a lot of my potential future buys actually.

I'll need to look into Thunderstone. I got turned off it at when it first came out because of mixed reviews, but when you place it in the context you have for me it looks like I should give it a shot. Have you played Ascension? If so, how does it compare to Thunderstone?

Dungeon Lords is another one of my must play games. Have you played Dungeon petz and if so which is better?

I would LOVE to get my hands on Eclipse it's just that no one has it :(.

Alien Frontiers looked really cool when it came out. I decided to wait and see if people still liked it after a little bit. Maybe I'll try to find a store that has an open copy for testing out.

I find it hard to compare the two. Also, I have a feeling that GTR will grow up to a tie with RFTG in time.

There's always the Black Box GTR if you hate the art work, but I hear bad things about that particular kickstarter project.
