That statement is also incorrect. They did it a few times, the earliest of which was within the first half hour, as reported by the Wall Street Journal article CNBC was referencing.

Verizon will kill 'grandfathered' unlimited data plans, push users to data share by djstanglin geek

Internet radio; freedom from iTunes and other media syncing; GPS and turn-by-turn directions everywhere; mobile chat; the ability to access our best attempt to aggregate all human knowledge and entertainment, anywhere, at any time, wirelessly, within seconds.

With some serious luck, timing, and great-grandfathering, I pay $65 for unlimited 4G on my Galaxy Nexus, but I'd still pay $100 a month for that. I use ~6 GB a month, or the amount of data someone would probably use on DSL in the late 90s, and I constantly have to worry that they're going to fuck me over and change my contract.

I have compiled an abridged timeline that new Redditors can use. I feel it presents the gravity of the situation more succinctly than a bunch of posts would.

Note: The following is a metaphor.

The Spring

The Summer

The Fall

The Eternal Winter. Also middle schoolers, posts about zits, spacedicks, and /r/4chan.

There's a process to have books removed due to content and this library should have followed theirs. Otherwise, this is just bald censorship from the very institution that should be the first to stand against it. by expatlibrarianin Libraries

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 5 points6 points ago

It's censorship even if you follow policy. It's hairier, but it's still censorship.

Though, of course, deciding what books to circulate is also a form of censorship, by virtue of being subjective and selective. Though that's hairier still.

Neat! More questions:

How bad is the odor? Are foxes affectionate, and do they enjoy being pet?

There was a time, a few years ago, when there was an agreement among Redditors to never mention Reddit in YouTube comments. We didn't want "that type of person" coming to our community and dragging it down. We knew it'd bring memes, dumb jokes, stories about high school and acne, immaturity, and generally rude users that have zero respect for intellectually honest discussion.

I recently saw a YouTube commenter complain that all these 'idiots from Reddit' were dragging down the comments on a YouTube video. Perhaps during Reddit's "arrow to the knee" phase.

UPDATE: I have had my RFID tag implanted. by StonedPonyin electronics

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 6 points7 points ago

May I preemptively suggest designing your motorcycle ignition switch such that interrupted or failed RFID communication doesn't cause your bike to turn off? I.e., use RFID to authenticate for the initial ACC, ON, and START, but require a mechanical switch to turn it off again. It'd suck to have your bike turn off on the highway because you were scratching your nuts.

My skills after a month of progress....Started webdesign exactly a year ago from today! by Diamonsin web_design

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 6 points7 points ago

If you have constructive criticism to give, by all means give it. If, in your eyes, his work is generic and poor, explain why. If you have a problem with his work, at least make an effort to give him tips he can use to reappraise it.

At worst, snippy comments like your original reply will discourage other designers from seeking advice and guidance. At best, your hollow comment will get a bunch of upvotes before someone like me points out that you were contributing nothing to this discussion.

You're doing constructive criticism wrong.

Edit: So that others may benefit, here are the two deleted posts.

  • One

"Since you seem to be pretty content with congratulating yourself, I'll spare you and just say that this looks completely and utterly generic.

"Edit: This is hilarious. I had like 14 upvotes earlier, had the top comment in this thread all day, then some wanker attempts to shame me for being honest and you mindless non-designers suddenly downvote me to the negatives in a matter of an hour. I don't think I've ever seen such stark evidence that r/web_design is populated by sheep. Keep up the good work, guys! Great job!"

  • Two

"Oops. I meant 'wow, great job! Only a year? Keep it up!! Sorry people are being so honest mean!'"

A graphic novelist spent a few months making this commercial for his comic. What do you guys think? by furbagin animation

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 4 points5 points ago

The animation looks fluid and I can imagine long bursts of it would be enjoyable, but I found it very visually confusing, due, I think, to the composition and layout. I had to watch it multiple times to figure out what I just saw. Too much is happening, too fast with complicated composition that doesn't let my brain recognize what's happening in the short time allotted to each shot.

I think it's too quick and jumpy to address from a story perspective, but that's fine: the trailer seems to want to present a few short and dramatic situations. A trio of adventurers encounter dangerous monsters, and...three other things happen. (Even trying to recall it moments later, I'm unable to form a mental picture of what happened. I can picture the red girl with boobs, and someone has a gun pointed at the camera.) But the three situations need to be simple and understandable.

The voice-over adds to my confusion, too. "Only one thing stands between the darkness and carnage: Dreamkeepers." Even upon reflection I don't understand what that means. It seems to mean nothing. What do dreams have to do with carnage? Are darkness and carnage mutually exclusive? I'd think that darkness would come with carnage. Shouldn't it be "between darkness and light," or "virtue and carnage?"

I imagine the creator of this trailer, having worked on it for months, is very deeply ingrained with his creation, and, to put it bluntly (and presumptively), perhaps he's lost the perspective necessary to understand why this piece doesn't work. It's unfortunate, because the clip is fully produced. Reworking it now would be expensive, but really, I don't think it succeeds as a teaser trailer.

Others may disagree, however.

CISPA and Cybersecurity Bills Are Looming... We're Going to Need A Montage by hueypriestin blog

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 4 points5 points ago

Find out if your congressional representative voted for this measure, and send him or her the following:

As one of (your representative)'s constituents, I'm writing to express my dissatisfaction at his recent decision to vote for the house bill known as CISPA. This bill is not only vague, dangerous, and a gross infringement on Americans' civil liberties, it was changed at the 11th hour without proper consultation from experts who are equipped to fully understand its ramifications.

There is a thread on the social networking site Reddit, where users vote on articles and comments. The most agreed-upon opinion is that representatives who voted for this act should be voted against in the next election, and I'm inclined to agree. http://www.reddit.com/r/blog/comments/t7gkk/cispa\_and\_cybersecurity\_bills\_are\_looming\_were/
