Playing Diablo and Staying Fit! by PixelatedPopein Diablo

Three times, perhaps, and I'm a suicidal level 59 who doesn't hesitate to zerg?
Not exactly common, although tbh I think all of these "stay fit while gaming," ideas are ridiculous, just go fucking lift/run/whatever.. don't half ass your health during the 15s you are respawning.

What it's like to play solo Demon Hunter in Hell by rokynin diablo3

I'm only in Hell act 2, but I've seen 60s brickwall against some of the elites.. I mean maybe they could kite/seperate/bug out the mobs, but it's often too much work.

Issues With Diablo 3: Poor Implementation Of Difficulty by vtaasin Diablo

dota2 at least is actually very push oriented right now. it is much less farming oriented than the LoL meta that I remember.
Kinda besides the point. I meant farming on the whole, not as a description of the meta/an act, as in preventing the other team from farming (essential for pushing) and lasthitting well in lane (also essential for pushing, unless you are against 0 aoe you need a manaboots, + mek or pipe 100%, usually both and jango as well)
I still don't know what you are trying to say here.
I've often seen Diablo's appeal described as godmode characters who can oneshot mobs left and right..
D3 Chat System is atrocious. by D-acsOin Diablo

I will argue that it is, for it's purpose. Steam offers a shit ton more- but battle.net was simple, lag free, quick and convenient. /r, /f m, etc.
Not perfect, but you don't need all of steams features, some would have been nice but I find steam overlay really reduces stability of non steam games (and some steam ones, or perhaps it's just because dota 2 is beta)

Couldn't they just make each buff a unique bonus that merges into one on the display? So you couldn't kill a champion pack in the same zone twice for two buffs, but if you kill every champion in the zone, you get every buff?
This would even allow a unique bonus for each champion pack killed, that resets when you clear the boss (or death -_- would make death extremely frustrating), and could vary depending on difficulty/travel time.
what do you mean by that?
Killing bosses in one hit with thorns? D3 was always about characters that felt ridiculously strong.
I do think it's an important distinction, because dota relies on things being hard to do without being punished for the attempt, and farming.
I agree with you it's possible to balance d3, though.
The playing solo vs creeps (in contrast to PVP in a much much much larger arena where you can "deny" players farming their gear) is a big difference, but like D3, positioning can be death in dota.. but not like diablo. In diablo you simply die for standing on some fire, in DotA there are almost no oneshots, a couple position based skills but even those usually don't have visual indicators ahead of time for the ENEMY team.. they are just difficult to land, on that scale of map (AN RTS, utterly different than d3, in scale and playstyle).
Ridiculously strong combos like vortex + some nuke (plagued, molten, fire chains vs melee) can happen.. but are ridiculously hard to pull off. They aren't hard to pull off in d3 and bots do them just as easily as players.
I think diablo compares far better to LoL, but that's known for being less punishing than DotA by far.. whereas d2 is legendary for the extremes.
Utterly, and positioning can be death in dota.. but not like diablo. In diablo you simply die for being on some first, in DotA there are almost no oneshots, a couple position based skills but even those usually don't have visual indicators ahead of time.. they are just difficult to land, on that scale of map (AN RTS, utterly different than d3).
edit: not sure why I replied to you, but oh well. I'll post this for the guy who asked you about it too.
Item Discussion of the Day: Vladmir's Offering (May 21, 2012) by Homer00in DotA2
Small changes to damage can be good; early in the game, ie basilus, can help you last hit. Past this point, however, small changes to damage are pretty ineffective at showing any result.
Small changes to survivability, however, are still effective; helping a support survive the tower hit, a percent based reduction of the carries damage, and it actually does something for the heroes without huge, stat based auto attacks, since even if they don't get a hit off, they'll benefit from a marginal increase to survivability, but would not have done anything with an increase to damage.
The carry might benefit a little from the increase, but that's effecting one, maybe two heroes, both of which are going to hit super hard in either case, making the increase pretty trivial in impact, just like the armor is for them end game.

Yes, but offensive and defensive are different things..? And being strong in each benefits you in different situations?
I don't really see how that has anything to do with what I wrote, though.
Seven helpful tips on how to become a better player by DerekGtzin DotA2
I can't believe I don't see this advice more often: buy multiple active items every game.
Seriously, between hex, mek, and pipe, think about how much these add to your team: if you don't have 2-3 minimum, you are doing it wrong. (TP/Wand, for example, are in 99.9% of my builds..)
As a new player, it's easy, AND USEFUL, to learn. Start going wand every game, one of the most effective items. Then wand phase, then wand phase urn, wand phase medallion urn, etc.
Learning to remember/place well a hex, blink, or time a wand will save you countless times.. and I dunno about you, but adding 6 active items (counting tp scroll/BoT) to playing a hero isn't something I could manage the first time I tried. Especially if you ever want to play tinker, who actually needs expensive activatables rather than intuitive ones like urn. :D

[–]Stoli604 -7 points-6 points-5 points 3 days ago
Even in those cases, bleh. It's useful but marginal increases to damage are just not a big deal in DotA. Marginal increases to survivability are quite good though, and that's why vlads is viable (the armor bonus is good throughout).
What's your point?

of sockets influencing affixes more than once.
what?

It's only, what, 15% damage (and of only stats, so ignoring mkb, radiance, daed, MoM)? It can be useful but I don't think it's ever especially strong.
[–]Stoli604 1 point2 points3 points 3 days ago
Maybe you have an item with 6 affixes + sockets, but the blue post you reference is referring to 6 affixes total, one affix of which is a socket.
6+ sockets = 7 affixes does not exist, as per that blue post.
6 affixes, ONE OF WHICH is SOCKETED varying from 1-3 gems you can put in, implying there are 5 remaining affixes.

I agree. This post is probably more in reference to rare mob packs, which seem well tuned to me (I've heard they aren't so good for barbs in inferno, but I'll wait and see before I comment)
[–]Stoli604 4 points5 points6 points 3 days ago
i'm going to assume you're high and be nice about this, because the max is 6.
5 + sockets = 6 affixes. The sockets can be 1-3, making it the "equivalent" of 8.. but 7 is completely nonsensical.
