Someone stifled a laugh at my depression. Get angry and furious and use that to dominate. by Snow_Monkyin GetMotivated

[–]Snow_Monky[S] 1 point2 points ago

Yes, yes it is. And I'm actually genuinely thankful that he made me angry. Glad to know where he stands in our roommate relationship. I don't expect anything from him and I don't expect to do him any favors anymore.

Nobody should ever laugh at one's depression, especially when you're not fully recovered.

As true as this is, it's not completely severe as to say face-to-face is virtually non-existent. There are plenty of people who regularly (daily) go out with their friends to have a good time whatever it may be. Sure, texting is still preferred over calls, but they do meet each other in real life more than spending time texting.

And these facebook-only people are a minority, at least for those socially adjusted. Nobody wants to just go on facebook and not go to real life parties.

If the poor had a chance to rule, they'd do the same thing the rich people are doing right now in the U.S.. Shows us that humans suck.

Who else thought that Puella Magi Madoka Magica was predictable? by Snow_Monkyin anime

[–]Snow_Monky[S] 1 point2 points ago

Huh, I missed that. Man, sometimes, I don't remember and then I get angry when people get all snide and it clouds my mind. Good for fights, but not discussions. Sorry about that.

I was lurking in the discussions and most people didn't figure out the major plot point of the light beam part. That was from the beginning of ep 1.

No, but I skimmed through the later episodes. I guess I could give it another try and go the full way through, but I've been disappointed by this subreddit like with Clannad and Clannad:After Story. Those weren't worth it. Also, School Days. Not worth the build up. I just don't have time for these things anymore.

I'm shocked that people didn't even talk about Homura from ep 1 here. The discussions came later on.

It's not obscure. I found all the anime from this subreddit.

I already know most people didn't figure it out, which is why I fucking asked the question. Funny how questions are hard to understand.

Yeah, I understand your point. I only stopped watching after I figured it out because I don't even like mahou shoujos. I would've maybe stayed if it was something else, despite figuring out major plot points. Not my genre usually and moe gets me annoyed for the most part.

That's also why people liked LOST. It was the journey that mattered.

Deep assessment. Yeah, when I do make an educated guess from past shows and movies and get it right, it's natural to start to think that the plot twist was predictable. And in many of these types of media, particularly movies to the vein of M. Night Shyamalan, the whole journey is rather a dull affair since you can see the trick coming a mile away (that is if and when you do get it right). When you don't, it starts become a mind-blowing journey where you find out at nearly the last moment. This can become an amateur ploy at creating some drama despite a shitty story, but as long as the story itself is good, the twist usually helps it.

I disagree that it was all luck. I've seen far too many shows and movies with making wishes and the unforeseen consequences that naive protagonists or characters find out later on. This is an old theme and something that is, for the most part, good because of the many ways you can use it. "Be careful what you wish for" is not only true in media, but in life. And nothing is free. At least in the sense of western philosophy. If one were to follow Daoist philosophy or branches of Buddhism and HInduism, happiness can be achieved with nothing, but with your mind and spirit.

So in that sense, it wasn't a random guess, but an educated one and something that I figured out from the first episode and quit from the get-go. Tried to get back on it after all the praise on this subreddit, but my analysis was right. And the Kyubey being dark was also right. They could've prevented that had they actually used some cutesy music and lack of slow close-ups foreshadowing the inevitable.

I strongly disagree with Madoka's use of dark themes for the Mahou Shoujo route. If your only exposure to Madoka was Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, then it would make sense to see such a stark contrast. But if you've watched recent anime, this type of change have been used before. Redline used a mahou shoujo in an unconventional light. Dai Mahou Touge also used it in a stark contrast way before Madoka and it was popular on this subreddit (which I've first discovered in along with vegetable seppuku).

So, it was all expected. When you watch so much media and understand the workings, it gets extremely easy to predict plot points. Then, we go on to the next best thing of enjoying the journey, despite the end. That is something I just cannot stand behind, although that's just preference considering those Greek tragedies that many used to watch/read different versions of back in the day.

Feels like we're in on one of life's great secret!, how many other men know? by Koboloin NoFap

[–]Snow_Monky 16 points17 points ago

I think it's mostly the society that creates depressive problems in most of the first-world population. NoFap, drug abuse, and escapism are all aspects of people failing to accept what the world is because it's do damned cruel. When you go to 3rd world and 2nd world countries, you usually find a larger sense of community and a greater sense of belonging with genuine (not manufactured for money) hospitality and politeness without the fear of being scammed/duped.

Combine these negatives of most first-world nations with the self-entitlement created by public education, parenting, and the media, and you'll end up with a far worse generation than the pre-1970s era who actually knew what was expected of them, knew what they could do, and did it.

They as a race were holding back from the rest of the galaxy until the Reapers invasions were coming to a climax. I expected little from them, but they contributed exponentially more then the Elcor.

In my playthrough, Gabby was dead, so Engineer Adams sacrificed himself to save Donnelly. He felt that he was getting redemption for his absence in ME2 (from my understanding). Poor Donnelly. I wonder how he's going to live through another death. Years of therapy, I suppose. He didn't make jokes in my playthrough, but I think he never will now.

It goes to show that sometimes technology isn't as advanced enough yet. From the Mother of all Thresher Maws to the Thorian ultimate hivemind consciousness, BioWare really showed that the Reapers are not so special, just arrogant.

I loved how all the Spectres and their teams were so distinct from each other. The Asari biotic spectre was a great replacement from Tela Vasir (vanguard) you killed from ME2. I loved the scene where she'd use the increasing singularity so that a blackhole of bodies seems to form where the cannibals and husks used to be. Then, the badass Krogan soldier would start picking them off with his shotgun. Jondum Bau, the Salarian spectre from the Citadel really had one of the strongest, most professional teams with all his members having the best armor, weapons, and equipment. You could tell that he had a lot of money, probably second to Shepard if mine didn't donate all her extra funds to the war effort. Depending on how much money you donated, you could still be able to save certain squad members. It calculates your war readiness, money donated, and crucial decisions to create a percentage chance whether a squad member assigned would survive or not.

You could tell all the spectres really did deserve their positions and seeing them in action with their diversity was amazing. I had initially thought that I was the only spectre who had used Krogan squadmates, but I was wrong. Think for yourself, think critically, and get the job done. All of them did that.

Yes, all missing from 1 year ago to 2 years ago (wanted to go back in time, but I can't). I checked them multiple times to make sure it wasn't a bug. When I categorized by hot, top, controversial, sometimes my comments wouldn't show up.
