I love the idea of it but Batman just looks... really weird. Looks like a skinny guy in a batman costume or something. Bad angle I guess.

I've been waiting three weeks to post these, and finally the wait is OGRE! by Cybrogmattin DotA2

[–]SilverChaos 1 point2 points ago

Jokes on you, they made ogre magi purple!

Because we really needed more people heroes!

I can't decide if I love or hate their voice acting, but the lines are wonderful and the accent is perfect, the one head is just really grating.

Soldier and Raider are Defensive and Offensive sides of the same coin. They both do a similar job (Kill enemy mans) and they're both run in competitive games, one Soldier runs as stay at home defense alongside whatever other D you have, while the offense is often composed entirely of raiders. They are both good, raider is technically better but Soldier makes the better defender due to more mobility, a direct explosive, and nice grenades.

A general 8v8 class spread you'll see is something like 1 Pathfinder (Capper) 3 Raider (Offense)

1 Sentinel (Sniper Defense) 1 Pathfinder (Defense/Chase) 1 Doombringer (Heavy On Flag, HoF for short) 1 Soldier (Stand Defense)

The actual "nonviable" classes are Infiltrator, Technician, and Brute, and Inf and Tech both see plenty of situational play. Inf is good for free Sniper harassment and clutch flag return plays from stealth, while people generally roll technician if they're going to use a vehicle (Shrikes are very good, and Tanks can be good too). Technician turrets are also great in a flag standoff if your generator is up (but it usually isn't).

I'm gonna have to play the game a lot to make sure I like it.

Of course, I almost consider the Free to Play model like an unlimited Demo of sorts. Try before you buy as it were.

I believe the $30 pack gets you 4000 gold, you can spend that however you like but Boosts are far and away the best option. a 90-day boost costs 2400 gold I think, and a 30 day costs 1200 I think, so you can get the 90 and if that runs out and you want more, get the 30 on top of that.

The 90 day booster takes about 3900 XP to "break even" with the gold value. Considering you get 3x base XP, that is literally one game with first win of the day, sometimes even one without it. One game a day. And then on a good game you can get even more than that, and badges get boosted too, it's a shit ton of XP.

30 day takes 6k to break even, which is still super easy, 2 or 3 games.

But yeah the game is free to play for a reason, take your time with it. But DEM BOOSTS.

That's because everything that was OP has been nerfed, you cannot deny that all those weapons were ridiculous on release. (and instabanned in comp anyway) Although most of those were before the Mann Co store, so they didn't have to deal with accusations of Pay to Win. Only recent OP I can think of is maybe the Cow Mangler? I dunno.

Weapon upgrades are all minor, the only significant ones are the increased clip size and reduced reload time on some automatic chainguns, everything else is just crap like "+4 ammo", "+damage to armored targets" which don't actually matter. There's nothing that makes you better in combat (again aside from the chains, which are OP anyway :p ).

I will say that it is incredibly terrible that some Perks are 100% necessarily for roles, and they aren't stock. Egocentric and Superheavy should be fully unlocked by default, you shouldn't make newbies get 24k experience just to be able to cap competently. Should also start with more Nitrons stock as well.

Sad truth: The game isn't pay to win, but it might just be pay to fun, because grinding it out with no boosters is painful. That's just how it has to be for a F2P game without being P2W. If you like the game, I would really recommend buying a $30 gold pack but only spending the gold on Experience Boosts, because those make the XP curve actually really workable. I have close to 300k xp in my pocket and I've basically unlocked everything I want right now, and that's just off of one $30. Buying a booster TRIPLES your XP gain from base.

Say what you want about how that's bull, but considering I've put 200+ into this game that I spent $30, I'm quite happy with it.

Also, it's pretty silly to say

this game seems to reward grinding to get good weapons and upgrades rather than raw skill.

When you're coming from TF2, which has had such gems as the Sandman, the Natascha, the Tomislav, the Backburner...

Remember achievement grinding? Remember people idling for the spy unlocks?

Good fucking times...

Admittedly all that shit is out of comp, but then the OP things are out of comp here too. You can't expect pubs in any FPS to be good and well-balanced, they're pubs.

Try some comp tribes when you get some more experience, it's loads of fun and PUGs are easy to get into.

A solution to all the bad maps in the current pub rotation: by RollinAbesin Tribes

[–]SilverChaos 1 point2 points ago

In theory, this is why custom servers exist.

In practice, nobody plays on Custom servers because.... because nobody plays on custom servers. Why wait for people to maybe slowly filter in, when you could either MM a pub, or get in a PUG?

first, theres no reason to peal off the outer wrapper of the onion until you've cut it in half, it comes off much more easily.

The reason is because of the noise, probably trying to trigger ASMR with the crinkly onion skin.

Help me fix my perception of the class balance as it stands. by Hygoggin Tribes

[–]SilverChaos 0 points1 point ago

The raider should be running potential energy, your discs fuel his shield even more.

Also, his role is "kill the defenders" so no, it makes him better. I'm speaking from a comp perspective, there's not much base clearing to be done, the gen is always down. I guess it can make him worse in pubs, sure.

[–]SilverChaos 0 points1 point ago

raider doesn't have a gigantic advantage over the soldier, it's just how you play it

Eh, I really disagree. His shield pack gives him the health of a heavy, and his NJ4 is just a little bit better than your AR. He has a pretty solid upperhand in a duel. Not to say you can't outplay him, because you can, but an equally skilled SLD and RDR dueling, the raider will win the majority of the time, there's no doubt about that. They just have the better tools for it, shield+chain, EMPs and Whiteouts are both nasty, and I'm not even gonna mention the Plasma and what a crazy duel weapon that thing is. If the Raider is super pro the arx can be nasty too but there's really no point over the NJ4.

At least your stun does damage, so you get an assist with that, some people would get nothing with their CC, like Warlock Upheaval or something. Should be fixed.

Sentinel - Sniping montage, lots of capper denials by wstrikain Tribes

[–]SilverChaos 1 point2 points ago

In the future, avoid clips of A) Shooting other sentinels, and B) Shooting Llamas or Heavies. Both are entirely unimpressive and really just cheapen the whole thing.

Main issue with this montage is basically all of the clips are completely normal everyday sniper shots. A guy deadstops and you shoot him. VGW, big deal, VGCY. VGRW. VGN.

If you want to try to make an impressive reel, here's what to look for in a Sniper clip:

Nailing a VERY FAST capper.

Nailing two or three perfect long shots for a kill.

A string of two or three kills with no misses in between.

Avoid clips involving missed shots unless it was a genuinely difficult shot (i.e. longshot flag drop, MAYBE), they make it look like your shots are just luck.

Also there was a clip of you sniping the guy immediately after he capped it, that's not an impressive shot, that is a failure, don't include that. Also getting them immediately before the cap is pointless if someone else gets it right after and caps, so don't include that either, as clutch as it might seem it isn't clutch without a return.

I play competitive, so I pretty much have to use it, play to win and all. I do like both, Falcon is a bit of a guilty pleasure but there's something satisfying about getting a perfect bead on someone and killing them in one clip.

I am a terrible person.

May 22, 2012: Tribes Ascend Version 1.0.980.1 by evanvolmin Tribes

[–]SilverChaos 1 point2 points ago

Yes I agree with that, class homogenization is not really a good thing and I don't particularly like the game being Tribes: Chainguns, even though I'm pretty good at them. I was just noting that I had never even noticed that Brute was the only one without it, I didn't realize just how prevalent the chains are. Furthermore, every class who has one uses it in their "best" loadouts. Every PTH uses LAR, every JUG uses LMG, every SEN uses Falcon...

I'm guilty as charged as well, but that's just what T:A has come to.

I was going to say that not every class needs a chain, until I realized brute is literally the only one without one...
