EU Blocks France's Ban on Monsanto's GMO Maize by jjeremyharrelsonin worldpolitics

[–]Sieziggy 2 points3 points ago

The global economy is a lot bigger than any single nation, and the fairness of trade or the availability of markets is an issue that's not limited to GMO's and Monsanto. Picking one product and feigning outrage is being dishonest when it happens in any global industry.

Exactly, the amount of misinformation and hyperbole that follow any mention of GMO's makes most articles painful to read. Respectable sources are a must for this sort of thing.

New DH strat - One-Shotting Champion Packs in Inferno. by jurblein Diablo

I think this is a good state of mind to be in right now. If it seems unusually good compared to other specs, don't buy a shit load of gear or itemize specifically for it. Just enjoy the spec while it lasts.

A fair point, and it looks like they've updated that stance. I guess my post would be directed more towards people who expect a laundry list of potential changes in development.

They know what they're doing but there are always unforeseen situations that will arise. Point being, they know a hell of a lot more about balancing and have a huge body of statistical data which the community does not.

Blizz would ruin the game if they balanced based off of whatever the community was parroting at the moment, they do what's best for the game and we all benefit.

They're intentionally silent. The community harps on anything they say, if they talk about the balance tweaks they're considering, but then go back on some or modify others, people freak the fuck out. It happened all the time back in WoW with "Ghostcrawler". He (she?) tried to break that lack of communication and it failed miserably, so they just keep things internal now.

From my days of playing WoW I'm pretty used to this. I remember them saying something a while ago about how they prefer to remain silent on a lot of balancing and tweaking they're planning because they don't like to set up expectations which turn out to become false in the end.

I think it's pretty obvious that they're going to be looking at every aspect of a huge release like D3 and making adjustments in the months following, my only gripe has been the changes prior to publicized patch notes.

Blizzard said anything about fixing the high latency problem? by IdanTsin Diablo

[–]Sieziggy 1 point2 points ago

NJ, optimum. 300ms is typical, same spikes as everyone else has said though. I've adapted to the lag but it's still not ideal, and makes difficult content even more frustrating when I get hit by a projectile that's several feet behind my character as I'm strafing away from it.

Clearing up misconceptions about Force Armor, and 0-vitality-high-regen Wizards (AKA "55Wizards"). by PKCarwashin Diablo

Immune to physical, magic resistant, multi-shot, lightning enchanted.

There were definitely the outliers in D2 which were nigh impossible without a hammerdin or something, but I agree, as a whole it seemed more forgiving.

A million gold isn't really that much, he'll probably have to spend much more. Top tier blues right now are going for several mill a piece.

Ugh, that sucks. The look she gave him after she housed the pancakes was fucking hilarious.

That part was great! I'm not sure why it's consistently left out of the comic though, do you know anywhere that has it saved?

Ninja nerfs continue, Demon Hunters Smoke Screen gets hit with the bat. by HoldenCarverin Diablo

They never said it was going to take months for casuals. Get better gear, learn the enemies behaviors better, and allow some time for Blizz to tune things. Everything is going to be fine.

Diablo III sells 6.3 million Life-To-Date, 3.5 million In First 24 hours by mehgandavidin Games

[–]Sieziggy 3 points4 points ago

That isn't the message sent at all. The server issues were annoying as fuck on release, it was a PR nightmare for Blizzard. People don't mind DRM when it's done right (Steam), and now that the servers are stable on D3 I don't mind it either, but deviation from a certain expected standard of quality results in immediate backlash by the community. I think we're fine.

[–]Sieziggy 7 points8 points ago

I get annoyed by always on DRM for single games, but I only ever played D2 on battle net. It's not a new concept for me, nor does it detract from the experience (since it has no effect on my play habbits).

The only time I played D2 offline was during trips without internet, but at this stage in my life, I have plenty of other forms of entertainment to turn to during those times.

So I will still bitch about some forms of DRM, but this one does not bother me so long as the server stability improves as we move away from launch (which it has so far).

True, but the game is quite good (early server issues aside).

They kill me as a WD too. Don't let a previously broken spec make you feel entitled to unrealistic survivability. Inferno is designed to kick your shit in for months until you have tip top gear, we're not at that point yet.
