What the Church of Scientology did to my family. by Abztekhin atheism

[–]SicTim 0 points1 point ago

So all religions are just like Scientology. So you agree with them that they should be afforded the status of any other church.

White House Declines To Comment On Petition Calling To Investigate MPAA CEO For Bribing Politicians by sandossuin news

Obama, Gingrich, Romney, Santorum....what is really the difference?

If you intend to vote (and I really hope you do), you might want to look into this for yourself.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get USI wireless for a one-day-only WiFi party? by SicTimin twincitiessocial

[–]SicTim[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for responding!

I'd like to have a unique network/password that only exists for 24 hours. I would like to post the network name and password prominently so that anyone at the party can join in.

I would like people to be able to create and share chat rooms, game lobbies, etc. at will without worrying about bandwidth. (Yes, I understand that USI might be lacking in speed, but I'm ignoring that as a concern for now.)

Someone should post this in /r/meta. 'Cause that's pretty fucking meta.

The real reason Valve haven't released "Meet the Pyro" by SirCannonFodderin gaming

[–]SicTim 0 points1 point ago

What sucks is that the Pyro in Team Fortress Classic was probably the most fun class to play.

Missiles that set enemies on fire through walls. Nothing as much fun as starting 2Fort by firing missiles into all the enemy sniper spots, jumping down, and raining Hell on all who stood before you.

I agree, but it's also a huge pain in the ass when you try to get to your mailbox and they've left the Internet out there.

Is whale sperm any bigger than human sperm? by Note_itin askscience

[–]SicTim -1 points0 points ago

I'm sorry for jumping in, but this might be the only place I ever mention that I have seen an actual whale penis.

Edit: Oh yeah, and it was very large.

How do people feel about posts that are easily found in google? by WishiCouldReadin tipofmytongue

For that you need to see Shiksa 3D.

[–]SicTim 28 points29 points ago

I asked about taking the OP not going to google first.

Ah, sorry. In those instances, the post usually gets a green check quickly -- a lot of people (including myself) love jumping in and getting them right. I don't think the low-hanging fruit bothers many people.

And actually, if there was a movie that focused on gefilte fish, I'd be willing to bet it'd pop up in google.

And someone would post a link to Kosher Robot Battle Force very quickly.

[–]SicTim 61 points62 points ago

TOMT is for when Google fails someone.

For example, Googling "that one movie I saw in 1990 with the giant robots that liked gefilte fish" isn't going to work out so well.

To All: Are there any creationists out there ? If no, can we stop making posts regarding them? by timoumdin DebateReligion

[–]SicTim 0 points1 point ago

I will say that what is really lacking are any moderate Christians, which we have in abundance around here. (And in a few other subreddits.) Also lacking many other people, but they don't seem to post as much as moderate Christians and various flavors of atheists.

Why is there so much dislike for former president jimmy carter? by prat187in PoliticalDiscussion

Because after him and Ford, America had had it up to its ass with well-meaning goofballs.

Hey r/christianity... Do you think it's OK for Christians to be friends with atheists? If so... by codyjdaltonin Christianity

[–]SicTim -1 points0 points ago

I know plenty of Christians who see it as "if you're not flaming, you're burning".

Heh. Sounds more like they're really into homosexuality.

I am seeing a Christian girl, and she is concerned that if I teach our potential kid(s) why I don't believe, they might not be a Christian. Was this ever a concern for you, and how did you deal with it?

I (the Christian half) am really unconcerned that my daughter may or may not believe exactly what I believe. Heck, I certainly don't believe what my parents did. (They were hippie agnostics.)

And no, I'm pretty sure she's not going to "Hell," so long as we've properly taught her how to be a good person and lead a good life.

Has the difference in faith been an important thing in the relationship?

Not important to the point of irrelevance.

If so, how?

As I said, not important, but I would like to add that love and mutual respect are important, as in any long-term relationship.

Also, do you have children?

Yes, a daughter from a previous marriage, who lived with us for several years until very recently. She has been raised to think for herself, and to (duh) respect viewpoints which are different from her own.

I have a question about the use of cannabis. by leinahtan25in Christianity

[–]SicTim 0 points1 point ago

Where I live, the law is very lenient in this regard. I don't consider the entirety of Christianity around here to have changed moral values drastically as the laws changed.

To Theists: what wwould it take for you to abandon theism? by lemursteamerin DebateReligion

No, you don't understand that Russell said that you should be an agnostic

Huh?

you also don't understand where the burden of proof lies/what it is.

I assure you, I certainly do. (Why else would I even mention Russell's Teapot?)
