So, is this just a DX eagle, or something special? by acetylynein discgolf

[–]Shredda 1 point2 points ago

I have the exact same disc, and it's in the old plastic before they introduced DX, Pro, Champion, etc. Kind of a cross between DX and Pro (closer to DX). It's been a staple in my bag and complements my Teebird very nicely, with Teebird being slightly more stable than the Eagle which is worked in well but hasn't taken too much damage. I use mine mainly for 200-300 ft straight/straight-to-right tunnel shots where I need a bit more speed than I would use my Buzzz for. It definitely is an old school disc though compared to the warp speed drivers out nowadays.

The event it came from though was actually a big simultaneous gathering where courses all around the world had the event on the same day. It wasn't a competition but rather a big event to spread the word of the sport and have some fun, the idea being that disc golfers would bring their non-disc golfer friends and introduce them to the sport. However, those stamps were available at all the locations so that disc probably isn't too rare. Needless to say, I love mine and it's definitely worth trying it out to see if it makes a spot in your bag.

Stumbled upon this today on a new course... longest hole I've ever seen! by barrelrolledin discgolf

[–]Shredda 0 points1 point ago

We used to have a hole here in London, ON that was was over 1100 ft when the hole was in the longest position (hole 11 at St. Julien's). However, that has now changed to accommodate the new 9 holes that were put in last year, and that hole position is now the first hole of the new ones. That being said, it was one hell of a long hole. The hole was on flat ground too, so it seemed like it went on forever. You would be happy getting a 5 or 6 on the hole, and ecstatic if you got a 4. Needless to say, no one has really complained of it being gone with the additions of the new holes. :)

As for the ski-hill hole, any idea what city/course that was in TylerrelyT? Those kinds of shots are some of my favourites (we have a top of the hill shot like that at V.A. Barrie in St. Thomas), and would love to try that course you describe.

Digging for errant tee shot in the woods, I face planted in the mud, gashed up my leg. What's your worst Disc Golf fall? by thegchildin discgolf

[–]Shredda 0 points1 point ago

Fell off an embankment next to the river on our local course while scouting out my disc that fell in it. I thought I was right at the edge, but I stepped a few inches too far and fell about 5 feet below, sprained my ankle pretty good while doing it. Couldn't play for 3-4 weeks after that happened which sucked big time :(

This. As much as I like the Android platform and it's devices, as a developer nothing holds a candle to the Visual Studio development environment. Even with the ugly-ass "grayification" of the next version of VS, the added functionality is still leaps and bounds better than any other IDE I've tried.

For me, I usually only call it ball golf when in the company of other disc golfers just to distinguish the two. Personally, golf is more about the rules than the tools used to play the games. Both are played and scored nearly identically, just a different set of equipment to play them.

That's just painful to even think of. Where I am (London, ON), we have 6 courses within 20-30 minutes driving at most, and another dozen within 1 to 1.5 hours away if you're up for a day-trip of golfing.

Microsoft actually did something similar with their Singularity project, although when they did it, it was more of a proof-of-concept thing than anything and wasn't ever meant to be more than that. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singularity_(operating_system)

Describe your favorite hole, real or not. by HeavyArmorin discgolf

[–]Shredda 0 points1 point ago

My favourite hole is a very real one. Hold's a special place in my heart since it was on the course I grew up playing. Hole 9 at V.A. Barrie park in St. Thomas, ON. It was part of the "Great Disc Golf Holes of the World" set released ages ago. Picture Here of discs in the set The course still exists though and is still used by the local club, not sure why in that link they say it doesn't exist.

It's a huge throw off the top of a hill and is not for the timid. Growing up in St. Thomas, I played this hole many, many times, and every time it was both a thrill to throw off, and never easy. But when you parked it, it was awesome.

Wil Wheaton's Table Top, Episode 1 is up! by myth84in boardgames

[–]Shredda 0 points1 point ago

The one aspect of the show I really liked wasn't that it showed you how to play the game from a rules point of view, but rather how the game is played socially. Rules I can figure out myself (that's what the book is for... unless you happen to be Fantasy Flight Games, but that's a different conversation.) With this show, you get a good grasp of how a game might play with a handful of people and see some of their experiences, how they grasped the concepts of the game and most importantly how much fun everyone had. Smallworld has been on my short-list of games I wanted to add to my collection for some time now; after watching this, it's now a must buy.

I'm guessing that the fact that they said that "the HDMI adapter is amazing" implied that they viewed it on a screen that supported HDMI input. It could very well be a 24 in. HD monitor, or something even bigger!

All I see in the play store is "Staff Picks for Tablet", not a dedicated section just for tablet apps. The Staff Picks section is ok, but it would be better if we could browse categories within tablet apps.

Just wondering why smoking up and disc golf seems to go hand in hand....... by Dfunkatronin discgolf

[–]Shredda 0 points1 point ago

IIRC, smoking is actually a no-no in the PDGA rulebook if it bothers other players (http://www.pdga.com/rules/80101-courtesy). I hate being a rules lawyer, but the rule is there. It's up to you to bring it up though. Fortunately, at the local courses I play at, everyone has been pretty good about respecting the other players and it's never been an issue. Those that do smoke do it away from those that don't and everyone is happy.

Fixed Header on a GridView - Is there a solution that actually works? by samofnyin dotnet

Fair enough. You can keep up all you want with the bleeding edge of technology, but unfortunately most employers are most comfortable with what's familiar. And ultimately, a job is a job.

Not to throw this off topic too much, but this was one of the reasons (amongst others) I dove head first into MVC after working with WebForms for years. Coming from a Windows forms background, WebForms was definitely nice and familiar to work with, but there were always little "gotchas" like this that you had to jump through hoops to get to work properly.

[–]Shredda 3 points4 points ago

Am I the only one that sees a business opportunity here? Why not create an similar app, and work out license agreements with the authors so they actually get a fair cut of app fees and ad revenue? And only list apps where the authors actually sign up to allow their content to be displayed. There would definitely need to be a fair amount of planning done, but it could be a win-win situation for everyone.

Ditto, but after looking at the DoW forums, it sounds like we won't be getting one anytime soon. They keep coming up with the same excuses, no money to be made, too many platforms, etc. But if other game developers can get ports done (and done pretty well), why can't DoW? The android versions of Catan and Carcassonne are good, and are a good example to prove against DoW's arguments.
