How does someone get a job with no previous experience? by Cdizzy93in AskReddit

[–]Shangriblah 0 points1 point ago

You do, I worked part time since I hit 16 so finding any old job was a lot easier for me once I left education. I know a lot of med students, and you're expected to do lots of volunteer care work before you go to study. Even though they didn't get paid, they found it was one of the most rewarding things they've ever done.

I know you need the money, but you need to do something. You may not even have to do it for long. If you turn up to an interview and say you're volunteering they can only think you're dedicated.

Do volunteer work for a little while. You're essentially doing a job for no pay. This gives you certain experiences which is what a lot of employers look for. At the very least regular volunteer work shows you are dedicated, punctual and willing to dig in and get something done, even if it isn't as rewarding as you'd like. In a lot of cases just doing something you enjoy is reward in itself. Put this across in a CV (or resume or whatever you call them there) and in an interview and you have a great foundation for getting paid work.

Did you ever have a moment of "evil genius" that you actually went through with? by EvaSylvestrein AskReddit

[–]Shangriblah 1 point2 points ago

On the last day of school, one of my girl friends gave me a party bucket of sweets as a joke apology for stealing sweets from me throughout our school lives.

When I got home my three younger brothers descended on me demanding me to share. I declined, and put them up in my bedroom. Naturally this didn't stop them, I turned my back for a second and they got themselves a few sticky pawfuls before I caught them.

I needed to hide them, but I knew they woud be relentless in their search. They had the taste.

I had by this point shooed them out of my room and they had gone downstairs to play computer games. I needed to think fast and think of a place where they would not be found.

Then it hit me, they shared a room together, and that the ABSOLUTE last place they would look would be under the bunk bed. I padded down the hallway, planted the bucket underneath the bed and went downstairs munching on pieces of my treasure. We made eye contact, they saw the sugary goodness and that the bucket was unattended.

Bounding upstairs, they rushed into my room only to be met with disappointment. They went nuts. I didn't even care they were turning my room inside out looking for something that wasn't there. I told them they would never, ever find them.

They left my room and started turning the house upside down looking for them as well. Every now and then when they weren't looking I'd go into their room for more sweets, then go back into whichever room they were in chuckling like a master criminal.

They eventually gave up, and I could just go into their room for weeks after and just grab a treat when I felt like it. I felt like a master criminal, living off the spoils of a big job he got clean away with.

Strings by iD-in guitarlessons

[–]Shangriblah 0 points1 point ago

A popular string cleaner is GHS Fast Fret, you wipe it on the string, and wipe off any excess. It smells nice too. Other than that, just wiping off the crud with a lint free cloth does the trick. This only really works on the unwound strings. You can't stop that crap sinking into the winds of the bass strings.

I have to change strings more than most as I sweat a lot from my hands.

College dropouts- How did your life turn out? by pdfFFFin AskReddit

I had a pretty bad time at first. I was in retail for years, then I was made redundant due to the recession. After 9 months of being on benefits I landed a job checking old people's shit for blood as part of bowel cancer screening. It was a suffocatingly small operation with way too many bean counters and supervisors/managers.

I now work in IT support, which makes me want to bang my head from time to time but the money is good and I actually have career prospects. I love the team I'm on and I can start to afford to actually move on with my life now I'm not on bare minimum wage anymore.

But I was studying music anyway, so I would have pretty much ended up the same anyway. I just got a head start and got the shitty retail out of the way a bit earlier!

If you had to either slaughter a cow yourself, or give up eating beef for the rest of your life, which would you choose? by BreezyWheezein AskReddit

[–]Shangriblah 1 point2 points ago

Yes, I've always wanted to kill my own animal to eat, if only the one time. Out of respect more than anything. Which sounds pretty odd at first but so few people truly appreciate where their food comes from and how it ends up on their plate it saddens me. Which is why I think wastefulness is so prevalent in our culture. Since you can get burgers and KFC on tap, we have no direct experience anymore of raising, feeding and ultimately killing and preparing the animal to be eaten.

What's your worst "oh shit, I just did/said that in front of a kid" moment? by LumpyDogin AskReddit

[–]Shangriblah 0 points1 point ago

I went round to a friends house to play computer games whilst he looked after his 6 year old son one evening. We had a little tournament on Mario Kart, and I'm notoriously terrible at it.

One of the races I was doing pretty well for a change, well enough to be in first place. Only just. I was so intensely concentrated on maintaining clean lines around corners, collecting weapons etc. everything just faded into nothingness. I was at one with the buggy, I was in the zone. Just for once.

On the last circuit I lapped my friend's son, who was perfectly content with plodding round. There for the experience. As soon as I passed him he capped me with a red shell, and I swerved and fell off the track and came fifth.

With my dreams shattered and without thinking I screamed "YOU LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!" and immediately realised what I had said. My friend just glanced over to me, didn't say a word and winked at me chuckling. The kid didn't really clock what I'd said thankfully, he just loved loved that he'd ruined my day and sat there laughing at my frustration.

They've been hanging on the wall in the store for months. I was actually the first person (staff included) to pull one down and plug in. The Bill and Ted futuristic look was what actually drew me to the guitar, but they do sound great.

I played the fanosphere range last week. They're incredible. Think the quacky punch of a strat/tele with the sustain of a les paul.

Don't know about the business expense side of things but I know you get the 3 year apple care protection plan for £40 if you buy it on education.

Think my hard-drive is dying! Any help please?! by 31Maxin applehelp

[–]Shangriblah 0 points1 point ago

If you have any problems booting up whilst you're still backing up, download any build of ubuntu to cd/dvd and boot from the cd.

I've had users at work come to me with failed hard drives and get them to do this. It's very reliable at accessing files on a hard drive thats not being used as the OS.
