Yeah I've messed around a bit with custom icons. On the phones it's less of a big deal since you don't typically have multiple widgets sitting together on pages, on the tablet there's so much variance with wiget size/design that I always wind up with a mess of widgets because you can't really get all of the random (twitter, Tunedin, youtube, etc) widgets all looking similar, then when you factor in the widget sizes (not the large/small setting, but how much of the usable space each widger uses, of say, it's 2x4 size) I can't ever get a nice mixture of icons and widgets where it doesn't all look hodgepodged together. When i'm around my tablet later I'll put up a screenshot of what I'm talking about. Maybe you know of a way I can fix some of it.

How am I doing it wrong. I'm not in control of who designs the widgets. They most certainly do not all look well designed together or uniform, because they are designed by each app maker individually. There's no way in hell they wind up looking uniform.

Nobody said all online communication was bad or not worthy. The problems, as framed by the theory, are the fact that video games and porn are quick-reward zero-effort actions. Making most of ones life revolve around these things isn't healthy and that the fact that they are such quick fixes, many people fall victim to it and suffer in the larger sense as they (over time) have less and less truly interpersonal social skills and relationship building skills (IRL) so that all the 'borderline' people (who aren't hermits by choice but because they feel they don't 'fit in' because of their lack of social skills) wind up just reinforcing the bad traits that keep them 'forever alone'.

I'm not supporting or denying the theory. I'm not saying everyone has to be an outgoing gregarious person. But life is a complex place and it takes work to navigate the social realm. It's possible that the ubiquitous access to porn and video games is in fact not an outright choice by many to be introverts that don't 'need society much', but a place more and more people are hiding out in order to not have to go through the uncomfortable process of living life and learning from the successes and failures of relationships and face to face communication.Which is what the theory is about, not that online friends are bad or anything, but that there's a possiblity too many people nowadays are using those things (video games and porn) as a crutch and a substitute for having to learn to interact in meatspace.

Human beings do in fact, in large part need face to face communication and physical contact from others in society. Just like monkeys pick the nits off of each other. We're not at the singularity yet. "Real life" face to face still matters. Personal sexual relationships still matter.

Obviously on Reddit, this sort of theory will get a lot of pushback because it's a direct attack on the way of life for a disproportionate amount of members. While I don't lay claim to knowing the truth, I personally feel there's a lot more people out there using the internet and porn to hide out from having to put effort into building and maintaining real life friendships and sexual relationships than there are people who 'truly' don't need other people IRL. Human beings an their psyches just plain aren't that independent to justify it happening in the numbers its happening in.

Fat or not it's still a bad place since the positioning increases the chance of bumping the plug and bending/breaking something. Also not all power plugs are tiny. My tablet wall plug would stick out about 2-3 inches plus another half an inch for the USB cord that plugs into that. Forward facing ones are much better placed.

Actually it's not that great a position for the outlets. Too much potential brushing against them by the person seated. A better idea would have been to redesign the arm rest so that the plugs would point forward, away from the chair rather than pointing into the seat area. Or putting the outlets under the corner of the lip of the seat pointing outwards.

Not really. Because people say stupid ass shit on the internet all the time. There's no way of really knowing if it's sarcasm or just another dumbass. Also, a lot of people like to say they were being sarcastic after it's pointed out that their original point was dumb. That's why sarcasm works so shittily on the internet. You can't hear voices so there's no verbal cues to sarcasm, all you're left with is text that can be read any number of ways.
