How am I possibly the first person to say the naval uniforms from Movies II-VII? (TMP-TLE)

South Korea to Chemically Castrate Repeat Child Rapist by PrinceDakkarin worldnews

[–]Sessine 13 points14 points ago

Who gets to decide that risk? You're weighing the possible ramifications of allowing rapists to exploit their post-rehab freedom or parole or whatever to reoffend against the risk that they might feel angry/resentful at having their "freedoms" curtailed to protect others. I get what you're saying, and I agree you should rehabilitate whenever possible, but not at a greatly increased risk to victims. Rehabilitate within your means, otherwise, if anything, I see a greater risk to society, not a reduced one.

I see your point, but I'm unsure as to what alternative treatment - and I do see this as treatment, not as punishment - we could offer to these people. The guy clearly can't control himself, so if he can't, then someone has to. I don't mind if you guys have a better idea, but it seems to me like the only two options are custody either in jail or in a pysch ward depending on the individual, or hormone treatment.

Thanks. I knew it was something like that, I appreciate the correction.

This guy has been denied the right to go around fucking kids. That isn't OK. If he's lost faith in society for not letting him diddle the sprogs, then that's his fucking problem.

EDIT: I mean to say it isn't OK to let him fuck the kids, not that it isn't OK that he's not allowed to.

Alan Turing didn't go around raping people. Unless I'm very much mistaken, rape is and will remain a most heinous crime. It makes little sense to discuss punishment without context - Turing was "accused" of being a homosexual, and hence it was the fault of prejudice in society that led to him being unjustly treated, whereas this man is a convicted and repeat offender that is apparently likely to reoffend.

Something that has come to bother me about DS9.... by TN_Bastiatin startrek

[–]Sessine 0 points1 point ago

True, but Starfleet by charter and by mission statement is most definitely NOT the Navy, although it is for all practical uses of the term.

Well they'd need it, but you'd still have to give them specialised ships. As far as I know, US marines don't rely on the coastguard for getting around, so why should the federation military?

[–]Sessine -2 points-1 points ago

The federation can be real morons sometimes. Fucking interstellar boy scouts. I wish they'd actually accept that they are a de-facto military organisation (not by choice of course) and actually split Starfleet appropriately into Starfleet Science and Starfleet Navy.

[–]Sessine 0 points1 point ago

I'd say it was an advanced fleet escort or a destroyer. It lacks the survivability of a true battleship, which the federation really suck at building anyway. In the show, it definitely gets a lot luckier many more times than it should do.

Admiralty in the real world makes major decisions. The CO of a starbase is basically supposed to be a liaison officer to the planet and maintain station operations. Now, take away the drama and story of DS9 for a minute. It's basically a trade hub for a minor frontier world that typically deals with commerce. Ignore the Wormhole and the story and all that and it's basically a backwater outpost that's only real merit is being around a fairly interesting planet. So when Starfleet sent Sisko there, they made a fairly logical choice. Why assign an admiral when his responsibilities would not include those of an admirals? Also, his experience working at the UP shipyards also makes him a good candidate for the posting.

And why the hell they decided to replace those awesome ones with the terrible TNG jumpsuits isn't exactly clear either. Those are the second worst. They don't start getting normal again till the DS9/VOY updates either.

I think that's deliberate, and is a transition shot. If the starfield was consistent, it means either the planet would be moving at the same speed as the enterprise, or the enterprise should be at rest.

Are you on PC? Get CASM and turn off all the in-game autosaves. CASM will save for you, and will do it properly without corruption.

When I first heard it, I hated it, and it took me a long time to realise just how well scored VI was.
