Is my setup really that shit? by StickDoctorin hardware

Since you're on XP SP3 I can only assume you're running 32bit meaning increasing your RAM is 100% useless.

The GPU is starting to age for sure and is most likely the bottleneck like everyone else is saying.

New *HD Destruction* video :D by Alililelein battlefield3

[–]Schmich 4 points5 points ago

I can't say I'm impressed if that's the only destruction in those maps. The destruction is here looks nice but it's not mind-blowing to the gameplay. Some minor covers are removed but mainly it's just the detail that gets destroyed.

I was hoping for things to break on a larger scale. Holes in the walls, support pillars going down making the ceiling collapse. So eg. after half the game you move down a level or parts get blocked off.

I mean we've gone from Bad Company 2 having 3 store building coming down to the walls tiles getting removed...great :/ We want proper destruction that would happen when 32 players do anything from shooting rockets to blowing C4. You want well developed (balance-wise) maps that change throughout the matches due to parts opening up and others closing down (due to destruction). Otherwise you might as well go back and play an arcade game like COD.

Glad to see they take their game issues seriously. by Krunk83in battlefield3

Um, it's called goggles. I'm an alpine ski racer and even in the brightest of the days with the snow reflecting 90% of the light I can still see have my eyes more opened than in BF3.

It's like the game displays the sun as if you're always looking STRAIGHT at it with a lens in front to give off that flare.

Sure if the sun is in the centre of the screen (i.e. you're focusing on it) then it should be quite bright. But not the second you see it in the corner of your eyes rendering the rest of your visibility useless.

I would definitely not put Dubstep with any other electric music genre. Dubstep has no finesse, it's really random and it's climaxes are...actually I don't know how to describe them. Usually you get a kick out of climaxes in songs. Especially electronic music it makes you want to run, run faster and all that. Dubstep "drops" makes you do what? Drop down to the floor in a broken manner?

I understand I'm hating on dubstep at the moment, sorry, but maybe you can enlighten me: what feeling does it give you?

And it's not like I don't like heavy techno bass either. Probably the worst song to use as an example but it's the first that comes to mind. I love the bass in Need for Speed's Quantum Singularity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTwiuMg02Xw

The way it's played is not random. I don't dislike weird noises either. Daft Punk is awesome with its unusual sounds but, again, they actually plan ahead how the song will go. You understand its fluidity. Dubstep when it drops I go "yeah!! Uhh, okay, this uh...not what I thought it was going to be...great it changed again, yeah I'll get in the rhythm for this part...this is so inspiring :S"

Dubstep is like the heavy metal of electronic music on Parkinson's. It requires knowledge to do what Skrillex does but personally I'd rather listen to Nickelback. Yes I said it! At least I don't go "wtf?" every 2 seconds with him.

I use Talk quite a bit but that's most likely barely no one I know uses G+. Talk is great tbh. What's wrong I'd say is that Google is a bit all over the place with contacts, circles different ways to instant message and share etc.

They need to organize and merge things together. Whether that gets rid of talk and incorporates Messenger/Hangout in Gmail doesn't matter. As long as they merge things together so everyone uses the same.

No noisy? Have you not seen the pic in this very article?! :S I can't say I'm a fan. Hangout is fantastic but the rest could be better...

I really dislike that attitude as if Google+ is flawless and it's doing better because not everyone's friend is there.

Hangout is great. That you can follow people is great but that only a handful of my friends are on G+ (and most of them are totally inactive) is not great!!

Plus, the way you speak, you actually talk down G+ by saying you cannot filter and choose what you see on your feed. G+ and FB you can filter what you see and the more the merrier...it's a social site for science's sake.

Um...how is DD-WRT with full Wifi-N speeds? Last I checked DD-WRT doesn't give out the same speed as the stock firmware. I can't remember the details but whatever linked/boosted the speed was proprietary so it couldn't be implemented with DD-WRT

GTX 690 unavailability by falloutman1990in hardware

[–]Schmich 9 points10 points ago

Probably very few. They took out the best 680 chips....and Nvidia is even having problems making 680s! That's why there's such a huge supply of GTX670 in comparison.

TSMC is not shit, Nvidia is doing one screwing up. No other company is having problems with TSMC on 28nm. It's normal to have problems at first but it's now been months and Nvidia still hasn't been able to correct the problems. It's quite a disaster.

Xperia Play may be missing out on ICS by Nicolaus_chocoin Android

[–]Schmich -3 points-2 points ago

Doesn't surprise me...ICS is bloated and so are all the skins. Bloat on bloat is not enough for 512MB RAM and to still be able to play games.

I'd say they've gone worse and worse. They are factual but the way they write things, especially the title, can often be over the top. It's quite a shame though because it brings down its credibility.

Google is now directly competing with its licensing partners Samsung, HTC, and LG, despite whatever Andy Rubin might say about "neutrality."

Despite? Neutrality and competing are not mutually exclusive here. Just like competing in sports and fairplay are not mutually exclusive either.

Nobody buy Close Quarters from this website by looneyhawgin battlefield3

[–]Schmich 4 points5 points ago

The maps better have some awesome layout and strategical destruction for that price imo. I don't mind paying but then there better be quality and that's not easy for close range combat...I mean look at Metro -.-

Where is the $14.99 Bad Company map-pack? Or winter maps for that matter...I'm a snow lover :D

To put more life into the game DICE should also add a weather and day-cycle. So eg. if you join Caspian Border it might be sunshine in the middle of the day one game, then next time you join it's during the night and it's raining.

TV vs TV tuner card? by donkeynostrilin hardware

[–]Schmich 0 points1 point ago

You need to know what kind of TV you will be watching. Eg. DVB-S (sat), DVB-S2 (sat HD) or DVB-T (antenna) or DVB-C (cable). There are also the old analogue ones ofc.

And if your provider (eg. cable) has given you a card to decrypt you will need to see if the tuner card can accept and support it.

Andy Rubin said for Face Unlock they had to "slow down the process" because it was too fast to make folks believe that any security at all was involved. Is there any way to speed it back up? by caliberin Android

[–]Schmich 1 point2 points ago

If you're a thief you would need to unlock the phone to see the guy's name first.

I think Face unlock is fine. It's not perfect but it's against thieves or you know quick glancing at your phone by friends or accidental presses. One thing that's nice about it is that you reduce the fingerprints vs slide to unlock/pins.
