Cashiers of Reddit, what is something that customers do, while you are ringing them up or checking them out, that pisses you off? by carbon107in AskReddit

[–]Scapegrace_ 24 points25 points ago

If I tell you that you have to do X to get the card-reader to work, then do it, don't act like you know those bastard machines better than I do. I work with them all day every day.

If you're in an express lane, it's okay to ignore the limit if they're all the same barcode or if it's only by a few items. It's not okay to come in with a cart full because you're "in a hurry". I don't care if you're in a hurry, I didn't make you come to the store and buy a shit-ton of junk food, did I? You should have done it when you had the time to.

Customers who make comments to me about the customer ahead of them like "I bet that was a welfare-case." or "She was totally a tranny." (both of the things have been said to me). I just never know how to respond to things like that, so I normally just kind of shrug.

Concerned Woman Finds Unshredded Employment Records in a Dairy Queen Dumpster. Calls The News Media First, Who then Contacted the Police for Her by Jpenny84in Omaha

[–]Scapegrace_ 1 point2 points ago

She might not have realized it was illegal, but wanted people to know about it. Or she figured the police might not care, getting the media to harass the police is one of the quickest ways of getting results. But she should have called the police first because now it just seems like she wants attention.

I'm not going to get trapped in reddit like Trapped_in_Reddit, am I?

Although that would be an improvement...

Eh, they'll understand. I mean no one goes to the bathroom without their smartphone anymore.

I didn't say that I did it. But if I did then that'd be okay, right?

Yesterday, I scolded a stranger in a Subway. Have you ever had to publicly scold someone you didn't know? by grummlindsin AskReddit

[–]Scapegrace_ 0 points1 point ago

Not necessarily true. Asking nicely can get you pretty far with kids.

Parent, tries taking away toy, kid yells: Getting anything away from (child's name) is always so difficult.

Me: Hi, may I please see your toy? I'll give it right back.

Child, smiles brightly and hands item over to me: Here you go!

Me, scans item and hands it back to child: Thank you.

Child: You're welcome. goes back to playing with toy

Parent: ...

Has jewelry always been popular? If so, why? by Scapegrace_in askscience

It seems strange to me, like "Oh hey, look at this shiny rock, I'm going to put this on my body."

I guess it's showing off worth, but it seems impractical to put something so valuable on such public display.

I've been wanting to check out the Beercade, but haven't had any free time. Blurgh, work is lame.

I have a bike, but I also suffer from an aversion to the heat... which means I can bike like two days out of the year.

This is my first summer being 21, so there will be lots of alcohol consumed. And I've heard awesome things about Crescent Moon.

I love going there, I just never go there that late. They have Jenga, which means I'm in love with them.

I went white water rafting on vacation in Tennessee a couple years ago and loved it. So canoeing sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks a lot. I have heard about Jazz on the Green but haven't gone because of work, I'll be sure to make sure I get at least a night off to check it out. Indian Cave sounds interesting. Hopefully it isn't too damaged from the flooding.

Damn, then I'll have to cancel those plans. I already bought the country music though. What should I do with it?

The Gamecocks are my friend's team. I don't follow sports much, but I did promise her I'd go to the CWS with her. I'll try to keep a more open mind about it.
