I played Oblivion for about an hour. I was so intimidated by it. I remember being on Skype with my ex, and him telling me "Oh, you're out of jail? Well then, you can literally do anything now. Like anything. Just go nuts."

I am the kind of person who needs structure so that was the absolute worst thing he could have told me. I entered a dungeon, ran like the dickens because I didn't have any weapons and things were trying to eat my face, and then found some monument thing and quit.

I was shocked that I enjoyed Skyrim as much as I did. I figured it was going to be the same as Oblivion for me but I figured I'd give it a shot, so I pirated it and figured I'd play it for an hour and then uninstall. Three days later I gave Steam $60 and my entire social life for the next four months.

After redownloading SKSE (even though it's the exact same version I already had, I figured it couldn't hurt) and verifying my game cache, the crashes have stopped being as frequent. I think I got about 2 hours of solid play in, and then I exited it myself instead of crashing. So now that I see that I'm not the only one having these issues, maybe try that. I also reinstalled Gamebooster just for shits and giggles, and I think that's helping a bit as well.

That version of SKSE is actually what I am running, I thought that was the beta but it isn't. My mistake.

I don't have any ENB installed or non-vanilla graphics installed, and I'm running on the default low graphic settings. I live in a rural area with crap satellite internet, so a 3gb download will actually take about 4 hours for me. I'll have to try that tonight if I can't get my shit working.

I've also seen a few posts that on and off reddit regarding the weird shadow issues, so I don't think it's due to a mod. I'm just incredibly frustrated.

No, these are chests that don't actually store items in the traditional sense, they hang open. The same ones are in the Treasure Room of the Thieves Guild After Mercer takes off with all of the money.

I have one full of Centurion Cores, the other I was going to overflow with gold. Guess I'll have to go with gems instead.

Play around in the creation kit to see all of the facial animations, they're actually really amusing. I remember that one was actually called "Fear," but I specifically remember the happiness one that was a hysterical stonercat grin. I have no clue what would trigger that though. Maybe lover's comfort? wink wink nudge nudge
