Ubuntu 10.10 unsupported, which distribution should I try next? by KingsAndAQueenin linuxquestions

[–]Robotman1974 1 point2 points ago

You're right, he didn't switch to Xubuntu, just Xfce. Thanks for pointing out my goof.

I've used Xfce in Xubuntu myself for a few years now, and it only seems to get more lithe and stable with each new release.

Ubuntu 10.10 unsupported, which distribution should I try next? by KingsAndAQueenin linuxquestions

[–]Robotman1974 3 points4 points ago*

Xubuntu is the way to go. Xfce is what Linus Torvalds himself switched to. ;)

You can autohide panels and make them as big or small as you like. It is definitely recommended to upgrade because you need those security patches and updates.

EDIT: Linus stitched to Xfce, not Xubuntu.

How broke, financially, have you ever been? Do you have any life lessons from that period in your life? by ether-i-amin AskReddit

I was homeless once... for about six hours.

And when I moved into my first apartment downtown, I learned that ordering pizza does not last as long as cooking macaroni and margarine seasoned with black pepper. Ah, memories.

Sounds like you might be made a fall-guy for something later on if things don't go smoothly. Whatever you do, get all instructions and promises from your bosses in writing.

That might be tricky with a laptop. You might be able to find out exactly what hardware is faulty by giving one of the live CDs here a try:

Need help with applying a theme to Synaptic Package Manager by NothingMuchHereToSayin xfce

[–]Robotman1974 1 point2 points ago

I had this problem too. Synaptic (and a few other Gnome apps) use GTK3 now, and the theme you're trying to use probably only supports up to GTK2. I had to download a new theme from xcfe-look.org and apply it to the root account.

That only worked on one of my computers, however. I tried to do the identical setup with identical steps on another computer and it didn't work at all.

I can remember falling asleep while holding my mother's hand when I was 2. What is your earliest memory? by [deleted]in AskReddit

[–]Robotman1974 0 points1 point ago

In the basement of my parents' house. Me and an older brother calling our oldest brother "loco" because we saw it on Bugs Bunny cartoons. He cried.

This was before the basement was carpeted, so I was 3.
