TROPHY CASE

Official Episode 4 "A Voice in the Night" Discussion thread by TheLastAirbender_Modin TheLastAirbender

Apparently armor doesn't protect against it. But that makes so little sense that it's just as annoying as if it wasn't addressed in the first place. it's one of those things where the answer actually causes more problems than the initial handwaving.

Same here. The city is rich and interesting. But come on, there's an entire world out there! I want to see it!

Exactly. It's so obvious that I don't want it to be true. The writers don't usually broadcast things that loudly.

I hope it's a case of misdirection. There's so many hints and clues that she's setting him up, right down to the tone the voice actress uses, that it'd be disappointing if that's the case. The show's creators usually seem to operate more subtly than that. I'm hoping the obvious betrayal is just a red herring.

I'm skeptical. Even today, voice recognition is pretty bad. And that's if you're sitting next to a mike, and have really trained the particular system with your voice. Back in the dos days and without powerful processors, with the typical noise of a crowd, the distance, and the probability of C being recognized as "sea"?

What movie/tv show do you look back at as an adult thinking "How the hell was I allowed to watch this as a kid?" by chickensdontclap23in movies

[–]RobotBuddha 0 points1 point ago

Same thing happened to me with zombie movies. I was terrified of death when I was a little kid, and somehow I chanced on night of the living dead on tv. I was terrified of zombies until middle school. Then I watched it again, was terrified, and wanted to confront it. So I got more, and that time the terror was kind of enjoyable as I overcame it. Then more, then more, and before I knew it I'd seen every available zombie movie.

Yesterday, I scolded a stranger in a Subway. Have you ever had to publicly scold someone you didn't know? by grummlindsin AskReddit

That's the main reason some of thee comments make me a bit uncomfortable. I TRY to be compassionate and considerate to the people around me. But I know that I slip up every now and then, totally by accident. Whispering a bit too loud, tripping over my own feet and knocking something down, etc. With a lot of these I just find myself wondering if the person in question made a mistake, felt horrible about it, and then had to endure a stranger yelling at them for something they already felt like a jerk about.

But even a serious goose is pretty hilarious compared with most everything else in the world. They're nature's comedians.

And just from a comedic standpoint, lazy and played out.

It's the reddit version of a joke about Sarah Palin. It'll get a laugh, it's probably a target which deserves the mockery, but it's just lazy given what an easy target they are.

I wish more people understood that. Worse, people often have to go to some efforts to hide their disabilities because society as a whole can treat them like freaks if they don't. So it's a situation where people lose either way. Pass as "normal" and get shit for that, or have the disability visible and get shit for that elsewhere.

It was a disappointingly sensationalist article too. I found myself really skimming to get past the author's "it's a STORY!" for the actual facts.

I really question their ability to replicate this many studies

That was really the only question I had about this, and reading the article I didn't find much to explain it. How are they going to get the time and funding to do this?

He grew up with cats, so he growls when he's being pet because he thinks he's purring. by tha_doodin aww

but dogs don't imitate cats

This is off the top of my head, so I could easily be remembering this incorrectly. But as I understand it, they won't imitate cats, but they will imitate particular things from "a" cat under the right circumstances. Now whether that's what's going on here, who knows. I'll agree it sounds a bit implausible, but I wouldn't totally discount it. However, imitation in general is something dogs can be quite good at. They're often times really amazing in the extent to which they can participate in the social aspects of other species interactions.

Really? I mean what, like a dozen people were assholes in that thread. Over 700 have upvoted this one. Why do you judge it by that dozen and not these hundreds?

I think the irony of this thread is that it was intended as "be nice to people!". It's instead kind of turning into a "we hate and look down on people who hate and look down on others! Burn them!" thread. Where any dissenting opinion, even if it's apathy, paints people as the much hated other.

Not everyone lives on reddit 24/7. New people come, old people leave and come back, people do different things with their day than lurking on reddit for all of i t. Hell, I'm on reddit almost every day and have been for four years and this is the first I've seen of it. Same for a big chunk of the stuff people yell "repost!!" on.

TIL men let women dump their baggage on them.

I'll do it for a girlfriend, but that's pretty much it. If she'll hold my dick, I'll hold her extra stuff every now and then. Otherwise, I seriously don't get why guys are cool with this. I mean if another guy decided to bring a giant coat, but it was too hot for a while and he didn't want to carry it, I sure wouldn't carry it for him.

She will live and die weighed down by her hatred.

Kind of disagree. She'll have a lot of hatred, and she'll pull other people down with it. But her, personally? I suspect she'll live very happily in knowledge that the creator of all things happens to agree with everything she's ever done or will do. And then when she's dying, she'll find comfort in full knowledge that she's soon to be reborn into glory and power. Few things can lift you up like wish fulfillment delusions.

All we get is reality, which is a lot more depressing.

I think it's pretty rare, really. I doubt that there's even one person really karma whoring for every thousand of people convinced that everyone's doing it. Most of the time people just find old shit, think it's funny, and don't bother searching out if it's been posted before.

I mean hell, I've been here over four years, am subscribed to /r/trees and yet still haven't seen this comic before now.
