What's the best time not to get felt up or molested by TSA?

Hey, guys, what genres of music do you guys enjoy listening to? by DuskyOrphan6944in INTP

[–]RadioUnfriendly 1 point2 points ago

There's a study that found five things that matter in music, and they made a wonderful acronym of MUSIC to remember these five things.

M - Mellow U - Unpretentious S - Sophisticated I - Intense C - Contemporary

I mostly prefer moderate to high intensity stuff, but I will listen to mellow stuff. I hate pretentious music like a lot of rap and pop that's just some douche or ditz bragging about how wonderful they are. Country music and a lot of rap and hip-hop is too unsophisticated as well as stupid rock bands that strum power chords up and down for every song and idiot metal (yelling and screaming and making as much noise as possible). A lot of pop is musically simple and therefore I see it as unsophisticated. Of course there is some classical that sounds like rich snobs sit around listening to it while sipping expensive wine... not my thing either. I only care if music is contemporary if it's popular music that was subject to the trends of a decade, which produces a very dated feel to it.

The result is that I listen to a lot of different stuff from a lot of different eras but mostly centered around rock/metal.

Sometimes I love and hate the internet. by is_briin introvert

Sometimes I wonder if I had no internet, would I be desperate enough to try really hard to make contacts in real life. Then I realize I'd probably just play video games, read books, and watch TV a whole lot more.

What's one instance of sexual exploration that you instantly regretted? by InstantPeeRegretin AskReddit

When I was really young, like third grade or so, I thought the proper place to insert the penis in a girl was up her butt. Somewhere along the way I learned better, so it didn't result in anything bad happening.

How did they get the Mississippi River to line up EXACTLY to the state border? by sage_jochin shittyaskscience

[–]RadioUnfriendly 1 point2 points ago

Actually if you go to Google earth and move north up the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, you will see places where the border and river don't match, generally accompanied by an oxbow lake. This is from the river changing directions and leaving an old part of the river as an oxbow lake.

My grocery store restrooms policy was to never go in the men's room without a mop and never go in the women's room without a broom and dustpan. Women leave a lot more trash on the floor.

What is your "never again" brand, item, store, or restaurant ? by radbrad7in AskReddit

[–]RadioUnfriendly 0 points1 point ago

I go in for a $7 buzz cut and hair wash, and what I've found is that the quality there is about the same as it is any full price haircut place. It all depends on the person doing it and how much they pay attention to detail. Either way, I tend to have to go home and make up for hairs that they missed. Many times I'm getting my hair cut by a young, attractive girl at the school, and at haircut places it's usually some lady in her thirties or forties.

I honestly don't understand why anyone actually wants to eat at Applebees. Any other place with similar prices is usually better at any specific thing. I've never had the steak or ribs, but everything else is done better elsewhere. Applebees is like Shoneys trying to make itself look like it's on the same level as Chilis and the Outback.

Any good lessons you guys know about for blues soloing? by twistedshufflein guitarlessons

[–]RadioUnfriendly 1 point2 points ago

I've noticed one thing recently, which has helped me out a lot. I've noticed that often times blues guitarists will make a phrase that concludes with one of the notes in the current chord, and it ends up being a strong phrase because of that. If Em is in the background, they'll end on E or B. Then they'll do a phrase or two that end on a note that isn't so agreeable with the chord background, often times playing quieter. If the background is Am at this point, they might play a phrase ending in D. The notes of Am are A, C, and E, so D is a little bit unsettling. Then after that they'll make a strong phrase ending on a note in the chord. The over all effect of this is much stronger than if you hit nothing but a bunch of agreeable phrases.

I guess this also equates to teachings about question and answer phrases. The question phrases being ones that end in non-chord notes, and the answers being ones ending on notes in the chord. If you've got Em going in the background, play a phrase that ends on D or A and think of it like asking a question. Then follow it with a phrase that ends in E, and think of that as the answer.

Does anyone else think that our T'ness often saves us from a lot of the sleazy snake oil salespeople ? by timelesscurrentin INTP

[–]RadioUnfriendly 1 point2 points ago

I think ENTJ types are perfect for resisting salespeople. They tend to have a natural affinity for what is real and practical, and their E allows them to be comfortable and logical when interacting with others.

Being too much of an F (having high agreeableness in big five terms) can be a downfall because it makes you dislike disagreeing and being in disharmony with people. Add 'I' to that, and you will also probably have a lack of assertiveness.

Perhaps it'll help someone if I teach you one thing about what makes good salespeople. The best salespeople are people who are willing to put what's best for them above what is best for the customer. They become very willing to just tell you what you want to hear whether it's true or not. If they think it might be true, then it is true. So they next time you encounter a saleman, consider him to be a scumbag, and you'll be in the right mindset.

I can't play guitar standing up, although i'm pretty good sitting down, why is this? Is there something I can do to make it easier? by Shoelace37in Guitar

[–]RadioUnfriendly 4 points5 points ago

The professional recommendation for strap height is that the guitar should be the same place it is when you're sitting and it's on your lap. The cool guy recommendation for strap height is as low as possible. I go with the former with just a slight deviation towards the latter, so I don't incur some kind of wrist injury.

Pretty new to playin guitar need some suggestions on easy acoustic songs. by Captainbluin Guitar

[–]RadioUnfriendly 0 points1 point ago

As a beginner don't worry if you have to dumb down songs. Just get your fingers on the fretboard and start getting them moving, stretch them out, and scrape them up to build some callouses on them. If your music isn't obscure, you can probably find the chords online. A good way to pick up new chords is by learning songs that require chords you don't know. There are also chord dictionaries online that'll show you how to play different chords.

As far as rhythm goes, I don't think anybody has it in them naturally, and generally it comes from practicing along with something in rhythm or with other musicians. Things that hold rhythm for you: a metronome, a programmed drumbeat, a recording itself, or another musician who can play in time. Just playing along with any other musicians seems to put you in rhythm because you have to conform to a standard and not get ahead or fall behind the other person.

If you like Oasis, most of their songs are pretty easy, especially if you dumb them down into chord strumming only. Noel Gallagher uses 7th chords a lot and a few other interesting ones. Most 7th chords are just simple variations of the chords you probably already know and some are actually easier. Top to bottom: 020000 = E minor 7. Just one finger required.

A Study of M6 Chords by RadioUnfriendlyin guitarlessons

Thanks. I'm enjoying how it's getting me experimenting with putting different chords together.

That's sort of a chopped up version of that F6 100211 slid up into the A6 position. I purposely avoided the jazz style chord structures because I figured there'd be way too many of'em. I'm not much of a jazz player.

I just realized SRV uses a chord just like that in Lenny.
