I admit they are similar in that they both result in the removal of information; however, the goal of moderation is to keep discussion on-topic and to remove offensive language, etc., while the goal of censorship is to suppress information and stifle debate.

You are listing trivial reasons to try and prematurely eliminate an extremely viable hypothesis at best, and spreading disinformation at worst.

Facts about Stuxnet:

Can infect ANY system created by Siemens (the majority of power plants worldwide)
Can make the system appear to be functioning normally while causing critical systems to malfunction

Apply this to the Fukushima reactor, and you can easily imagine a scenario where the C.I.A./Mossad caused or waited for an earthquake, offered military assistance (which was quickly granted), entered the premises on that pretense, and uploaded the virus that made the reactors' cooling systems fail.

Even without Stuxnet, the feat could still have been accomplished with a simple bomb. The key takeaway is that Israel was in charge of security at Fukushima.

True, but there is a difference. I remember a time before subreddits, when 9/11 being an inside job was a foregone conclusion, straight fact. Reddit was filled with smart, articulate people who, even if they disagreed with you, would do so maturely. There was virtually no trolling to speak of.

I'm not saying that the current state of reddit is all due to shills, but when you keep in mind that 1 shill has the potential ability to control 10-50 online personas, you begin to get a picture of how big a problem this is going to become.

It seems to me the most obvious way to limit the effect of astroturfers in /r/conspiracy is to have active mods.

I have dearly wished for this power so that I may delete meaningless or distracting comments that don't contribute to discussion.

I know this subreddit's mods have been around for a while, but I never see them post here.

If we had just one attentive mod who could filter out even just the spiteful one-word replies on these forums, we'd immediately have a better discussion board already.

This may not be the start of WWIII, but after witnessing two false wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as two true uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt (not to mention hastily censored reports of civilian casualties in Libya caused by air strikes), I think even red-blooded conservatives in America are waking up to the very obvious reality that this is no peacekeeping operation.
