Preview: Ultimate Comics Ultimates #11 by Amehtin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 0 points1 point ago

I'm starting to get nervous that Hickman isn't going to wrap up this storyline with the Children in his two issues that he has left.

How exactly did Thor become independent from Donald Blake? by Simon_Williamsin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 1 point2 points ago

I always thought Donald Blake and he just sort of shared a body, not that Donald Blake was Thor. As for what happened to him, I can't say, the last time I remember seeing him is during JMS run, where he is injured at the end. However they were still connected, he just hung out in the void more often than Thor. It could be changed though, I didn't read Gillen's run or Fraction's run so Thor could easily be riding solo at this point.

After reading on Rob Liefeld from earlier... How does everyone feel about Todd McFarlane? by neotheismin comicbooks

I like that one cover of Spider-Man he did. You know, the one.

Cyclops cover sketch by Apophys421in comicbooks

I mean I know it makes sense, but I never thought about the fact that Cyclops cries laser blasts.

My friend just watched the first episode....... by gl3bmin Supernatural

[–]PlayOnPlayer 9 points10 points ago

Back a few years ago, I introduced about five or six different groups to the show (and basically watched the show that many times with them) allow me to make a few statements about general reactions. This was only up to season four mind you.

Beginning of Season One: "Hey this is pretty good, but the episodes are pretty hit and miss.

Right after Season One Finale: "WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!"

Pretty much all of Seasons 2 & 3: "FUCK YEAH!!!"

Beginning of Season 4: "Angels? Really? Seems like Supernatural is jumping the shark"

Five or so episodes into Season 4: "Castiel is the best character of all time"

End of Season 4: "I HAVE TO WAIT NOW?!?!"

Moral of the story, my friends shout at the TV a lot.

If for some reason you aren't planning on picking up Batman INC #1, you like, should, you know? by PlayOnPlayerin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer[S] 28 points29 points ago

believe it or not, this is Chris Burnham, not Frank Quitely. But to say Quitely's art is a major influence would be an understatement.

Here's hoping they get the names right this time.

What are your thoughts on the Night of the Owls tie ins? I think they're largely worthless. by hoffer175in comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 10 points11 points ago

Nightwing - I'd say it's not a tie in, since Haley's Circus and Dick have been so integral in the story.

Batgirl - Surprisingly my favorite of all the tie ins. I thought her fighting a lady Talon was about as cliche as cliche can get, but the story was actually kind of poignant, and the reveal that Gordon was the one who put the owl in the sky was awesome.

Batman & Robin - It was pretty good, nothing really happened, but Tomasi writes Damian really well.

Batwing - Pointless, he beats "the greatest talon" without really breaking a sweat.

Catwoman - Pointless

Birds of Prey - Pointless

Red Hood and the Outlaws - You already know if you liked this or not, you don't even have to read it. I did like it, but I wouldn't bat an eyelash at anyone who says they hated it.

X-Treme X-Men out in July! by uncannythomin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 1 point2 points ago

Maybe I'm the only one who liked Greg Pak's arc in Astonishing X Men #44-47. It was genuinely fun to see the alternate version's and the part where Cyclops wore Magneto's Helmet to beat Charles was one of favorite images of the last year, just some fun symbolism about where his character has gone these last few years.

Joker without Batman? by omikawiin comicbooks

Shoot my bad, for some reason I thought if I got a orange envelope for it.

I think you replied to the wrong comment, I didn't call him the avatar of madness.

Joker without Batman? by omikawiin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 8 points9 points ago

Isn't the whole idea that Joker only exists because the Batman exists? He's the polar opposite. He is like Luther to Superman or Green Goblin to Spider Man. They don't want the money or whatever drives other villans, their only reason for existing is to destroy their rival.

Is the a book that ties the marvel universe together in a chronological order? by Hobbes86in comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 0 points1 point ago

If your gonna worry about chronology in comic books your gonna have a bad time. My advice is just pick of couple of good ongoing comics and hop right in, any confusions can be cleared up with Wikipedia, the guys at your comic store, or making a post on this subreddit.

Recommended Green Arrow Reading by KingGoblinin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer -1 points0 points ago

I'm gonna throw this out there, don't read Kevin Smith's run; the dude can not get voices right. I apologize for the image size, I didn't upload it.

But some Green Arrow I did enjoy are:

Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters

Green Arrow: The Wonder Years

Green Arrow: Year One

Also Mike Grell's run on Green Arrow vol 2 1-80. It hasn't really been collected, but it's the best Green Arrow there is in my opinion. It's the same guy who wrote the Longbow Hunters.

Just how rapey is Before Watchmen going to be, anyway? by Simon_Williamsin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 0 points1 point ago

I really don't think these are gonna have that much rape. DC wouldn't want to offend people with its new cash cow; they don't want Before Watchmen on the top shelf next to Fury Max and Heavy Metal. Any "controversy" involving the Comedian comic probably has to do with him assassinating major figures in the 1960's, i.e. MLK, JFK, Malcom X, the list goes on. I'm not saying that I feel that assassination is somehow less "controversial" than rape, i just bet DC would be a lot cooler with it; because, after all, this is America baby, you can blow someone's head off on TV, but god help you if you show a nipple.

"I have another 2 really big stories planned... you're kinda stuck with me in Goutham for awhile." - Snyder on Batman by thavirgin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 1 point2 points ago

Seriously, we got Snyder killing it with Court of Owls, Tomasi's Nobody storyline actually ending up kicking some serious ass, and Batman INC is back this week, it is a good time to be a Batman fan. Now if only we could do something about Detective Comics with it's nonsensical plot, and Batman: The Dark Knight with its everything.

Best Dean episode? by Irondog1970in Supernatural

[–]PlayOnPlayer 6 points7 points ago

Since "What is" and "The End" have already been mentioned, I'll throw in "Skin" (1X06), "In My Time of Dying" (2X01), "In The Beginning" (4X03), and "Yellow Fever" (4X06). Also I know you didn't ask, but my favorite Sam eps are "Born Under a Bad Sign" (2X14) and "Mystery Spot" (3X11). It's too hard to just pick one haha.

Edit: Shoot, I just remembered "On The Head of a Pin" (4X16) with this scene. The first time I saw it I was all "fuuuuuuuuck"

Edit 2: Also in All Hell Breaks Lose when he talks to Sam. Double fuuuuuuuuuck.

It's not fantastic, but you can get Wolverine X Men Origins for dirt cheap these days, and since it's M, they do let Wolverine get properly fucked up.

The 10 Most Depressing Alternate Realities From Marvel Comics by Shadow_Jackin comicbooks

Not sure it counts, but I loved in Wolverine and the X Men #4 when Deathlok sees a future where Quintin, Brood, Idie and Kid Gladiator are basically the X Men fighting Apocalypse.

Kick-Ass Will Be A Trilogy by sajanthanin comicbooks

[–]PlayOnPlayer 10 points11 points ago

I think the key here is that Millar is saying it will be a trilogy. When it comes to making his properties sound like they are all being sought after as huge blockbuster movies, that cock will say anything.
