What story do you tell that no one belives until you provide proof? (NSFW pics inside) by Leuffenin AskReddit

[–]Pizzadude 0 points1 point ago

People look at my face and don't believe that I completely destroyed it in a bike accident when I was about 13. And by destroyed, I mean my face looked like ground beef, they found my front teeth behind my nose, and my helmet saved my life in three obvious ways.

The only photographic proof I have is from after all of the plastic surgery and some healing time.

Do they not believe you because you aren't fat, and they don't understand that Type 1 and Type 2 are not the same thing?

No, it was not a .22. I know what .22 and .223 look like. A tiny little rimfire .22 longrifle round (recognizable by anyone who has handled a firearm) is very different from a shouldered .223 rifle round. I know them well. I have reloaded too many .223 rounds (among many others) to count.

The Thompson Contender is a break action target pistol with a wide variety of barrels, grips, and stocks. It can handle many different calibers, and is often (and easily) converted into a rifle.

If it helps to be clear, you can say that I fired 5.56x45mm NATO rounds with that pistol.

I'm not entirely sure how they came originally, as I was just a kid at the time, but it must have come with a standard grip and barrel. If you do a google image search for "thompson contender" you can see a bunch of the variations and parts. A lot of people converted them into rifles, since they were break action and could handle a variety of calibers.

Yeah, the two barrels we had were .223 and .44 mag. That's some pretty hefty stuff without a recoil spring behind it.

I used to fire a .223 pistol a lot as a kid, before my Dad sold it. A pistol that uses the same ammo as an M16/M4 is entertaining.

(It was a Thompson Contender, which allows you to switch out the barrels/grips/stocks for different calibers and configurations.)

The patch this week is a bigger deal than any previous patch. Listen as to why.. by asbyoin leagueoflegends

[–]Pizzadude 0 points1 point ago

What if you were told that, for the next 6 months, you were not allowed to play a single game of League of Legends? You're allowed to continue to follow the game, even watch streams as much as you want, but not play at all.

I would... play other games and do other things?

Actually, I might consider watching a stream for once, because I'd always rather play a game than watch someone else play.

I would assume that Greeks don't have a positive bias toward what Americans call "greek life." A few letters don't make you Greek.

You know the "Confederate flag" that dipshits have on their trucks and such? That wasn't the Confederate flag at all.

Man, that was my favorite mountain, and I used to ride there all of the time. I lived and worked a few miles from it every summer and for a few weeks every winter. Now I haven't been back in... maybe ten years. Sadness.

As an American, I find this outlandish. I have two bachelor's and master's in electrical engineering, and am working on my PhD, and I have never paid a cent to go to school.

;)

What is the worst advice you've ever received? by sophalopein AskReddit

[–]Pizzadude 0 points1 point ago

Yep, my Mom told me to beat the shit out of one or two, and teach them that I was a bad target.

I ended up beating the shit out of all of them for a few years, but at least it was entertaining.

Should I tell my parents about my blood test? by ABThrowawayOin AskReddit

[–]Pizzadude 0 points1 point ago

Who cares? Family isn't blood. In fact, blood relations don't mean anything. Whether you are adopted, there was some mix up at the hospital, or whatever, it doesn't matter. Your parents are the people who raised you, their child is the person they raised. That's really all there is to it.

Twitch TV ruins LOL for thousands of people by YouShallWearNoPantsin leagueoflegends

[–]Pizzadude -1 points0 points ago

LoL is a game. Twitch TV is a way of letting people watch other people play that game. It cannot possibly "ruin" the game.

Can you really not enjoy the game without watching other people play it? I never even watch streams, because I'd rather spend my time... actually playing.

I'm a bit weak on that side of things, but I suppose you could loosely think of it that way. You could also think of signals passing through neurons like... a champagne fountain of glasses? When one receives enough "spikes," it fires off a "spike" from its other end. (So when one glass is full, it pours over into the next.)

But then, if certain neurons are firing more, the "amount" it takes to make them fire decreases... and you get into Hebbian learning...

No analogies are perfect, I suppose.

"Spike trains" are what you want. We (actually "we," in my lab) do signal processing with spike trains, which are what you get when you record directly from a neuron or group of neurons.

And we've recently seen relevant information in gamma and higher frequencies (which were previously considered noise).

This not at all how sampling works. Increasing sampling rate increases the resolution of the data received, not the reverse. Slower sampling means less information.

Wait... there are no Mexicans here... I moved from Denver, where half of the city is Mexican, so this is very strange to me. People haven't even heard of green chile here! You, sir, don't exist.
