I just whipped up a little Google StreetView scene using the Indoor Panorama:

For some reason it looks great in Chrome and not so impressive in FF. Anyway, a nice little diversion.

I was being facetious anyway. Jeter makes easy plays look difficult with his jump-throw. Tulo's play was genuinely impressive.

I think most O's fans were hoping the first meeting would've gone something like that.

Ever since that closed-door meeting he had with Buck and I think Duquette, Gregg has been pretty damn good.

as others have said, most students use pen/pencil and paper. Those on laptops are usually screwing around on facebook etc.

Ever read a book you couldn't have loathed more, but you couldn't stop? by vader311in books

[–]PhilR8 0 points1 point ago

Damn, I kind of wish I hadn't read your comment, because it makes me want to stop reading the book altogether. I tolerated the ridiculous and exaggerated sequence where the main character stands up to "the man" (the DEA) and totally owns them - no doubt a drug-fueled wet dream of SK at the time - but it's gotten to the point where I don't care about this guy's problems anymore. I was hoping we'd get back to the great post-apocalyptic wasteland setting that were the highlight of The Gunslinger. Sigh.

Red Line funding uncertain with failure of Maryland gas tax hike by baltimoresportsin baltimore

Metro subway > Light Rail. Using the Light Rail is a pain in the ass - it crawls down Howard Street. Would the Red Line alleviate any of the issues currently plaguing the Light Rail system? Would the Red Line suffer from similar issues?

outsourced production to keep costs down. It's only sold here in the mid-atlantic/Baltimore area but is brewed in North Carolina, I think.

"Bell Volume" seems strange to me; this is not a term for "Ringer" that I've ever heard used here in the US. Is this a common term in Europe/elsewhere?

My brother died today, at 28 years old. I've never had to deal with the loss of a family member before, do you have any pieces of advice you could offer? by Jinjitin AskReddit

My father's Celebration of Life was awesome. There were so many people there, many of whom I had never met, and they all shared great stories about my dad. I left with a broad smile on my face, feeling great. It almost felt as if my dad was laughing right there with us, all day long.

I'm sorry for your loss. As others have said much more eloquently, it will get easier over time. My father died two years ago from prostate cancer - he was 58. I was 27 at the time and very close to him. I lived at home at that point (went back to school) and my father was my cycling buddy. We rode together several times a week, rode a few centuries together, etc. At some point he became more than just my dad - he was my friend and I really enjoyed being with him.

After he died I was pretty broken up. Sad, angry, you name it. I felt cheated. I felt like he was unjustly taken from me at a relatively young age. I felt really sad not only because I would miss him, but because he also would not be able to continue experiencing life. Man, it still sucks thinking about it to this day. I'm crying just writing this. But now, two years on, the intense pain in the middle of my chest that I felt every second of every day for months after he died - that pain almost never shows up anymore. It lessened over time. The sadness doesn't go away, but the physical pain associated with it has pretty much disappeared. Losing him was the first time I had really lost a close loved one and I was really unprepared for the actual physical pain that I felt in my chest. It felt like getting punched on the sternum over and over and over again. But over time, it lessened little by little and then it went away completely. Like I said, the sadness remains but the pain does not.

The pain only flared up a few times, thankfully: once I was caught off-guard when I logged on to facebook and was reminded that it was his birthday. I had completely forgotten about it! And yet there I was at work, blindsided by facebook and holding back tears at my desk.

Right now, thinking of my dad, I wish he was alive. I'd do anything for him to be alive. There is so much I want to share with him, to tell him, to do with him, and it really sucks that I'll never have a chance to do any of that. I hate it. It makes me so sad.

But like I said, it's manageable. I can live my life, I can think about the good times and smile and genuinely feel good about them. As someone else said, there are days when I don't think about him at all and I'll catch myself and feel guilty about it. Then there are days where he's constantly on my mind. I actually just remembered that I haven't visited his gravestone in several months, even though I was in the area several times. I'll have to make sure to do that very soon.

I don't agree with this. My father died two years ago at age 58 from prostate cancer and I looked at him in a casket at the viewing. I remember seeing him in the casket, but I also remember a million other things about him. The image of him in the casket doesn't dominate my memories. In fact, I know this sounds cliche, but laying in the casket, my father looked at peace. I appreciated that.

However, after my father died in hospice care, we called a bunch of family members and friends and we all hung around in his room for the next several hours, mourning together. I remember that I wanted to keep touching him while he was still warm. Over the next few hours he got less and less warm but I just wanted to touch his arm or head as much as possible while there still seemed to be some warmth left in him.

The chaplain at the hospice center was there the entire time and eventually everyone filtered out and it was just me, my mom, and my brother in there with my dad, saying our final goodbye with the chaplain. The chaplain gently indicated that we would have to put my father in a bodybag at some point, and he recommended that we leave before that occurred. He couldn't force us obviously, but he strongly recommended that we not witness him being put into the bag because it would be a memory we would always carry with us. Initially I didn't care and I wanted to see him to the bitter end, but I conceded and left. I remember looking at him laying in the bed and then I left. I'm glad that's the memory I have, and not the memory of a zipper being zipped closed over his face.

He's been struggling at the plate recently, that's for sure. Also making some poor throws to second. Hopefully he'll get tomorrow off.

I don't think so. The reason a lot of us over at CC hate the Red Sox is because of their douchey fans. Same with the Yanks. It's a pretty common complaint about the Yankes and BoSox that their fans are really obnoxious and that's a large reason as to why those teams are hated by O's fans.

I liked my '99 S-10 for that reason as well, but what I DIDN'T like was getting volunteered to do all sorts of odd jobs for my friends, family, and co-workers. My current 2012 Accent hatchback doesn't have the same sort of versatility buck makes up for it with reliability and fuel economy. Plus now, no one volunteers me to help them move.
