I'm in love with The Crusader! by Kaze006in MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 4 points5 points ago

Actually, the Crusader does ~100 damage more per shot than the Saber at Level I (389 versus 486.6 after the May 16th buffs - the spreadsheet has not been updated in a while I think).

The Crusader has only a 4 shot clip versus the Saber's 8, but the Crusader reloads really fast, even faster with cancelling. It is pinpoint accurate when fired from cover.

I use mine with extended mags and extended barrel. I used to use Shredder but found that it was only really useful against Guardians to get through their shield, but you can mailslot easily with the Crussader. I use the Crusader with my Human ARush soldier builds and it just does beastly damage. I don't use it all the time, but it's fun for the occasional round or two. It definitely plows through Silver. Haven't tried it on Gold yet.

My ARush Human Soldier Build by frogpjbin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 5 points6 points ago

Hey there, I posted a similar thread about a month ago

I agree, the Human Soldier is a great class. With the buffs this is really quite fun to play and competitive. I use it when I just want pure gun damage...powers and "super moves" are great but for variety, it's quite fun to just blast the snot out of stuff. I usually skip ConShot on my ARush build (human male) and use a specifically tuned stunlock build for when I want to use that.

Easier Gold than FBWGG: QIRG (Quarian Infl Reapers Gold) by ELNOOBSTERin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for posting this, this helps a lot as does the top commented post which also explained what was happening.

I didn't realize that backfire had a delayed effect. The 1.5 second delay explains why a guy with nearly full health would all of sudden die. I thought this was due to me shooting but in the end the timing was just coincidence.

[–]PIngp0NGMW 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for explaining this, I posted below that I was wondering why the heck this worked so well.

I fear now that if this becomes a thing and people start annihilating Reaper Gold on any map that Bioware will take note and possibly (probably?) correct. It's not an exploit I don't think, but I could see them challenging that this is the way the game is meant to be played. I'm sure this was flying under the radar because I don't think QI is as popular as some of the other common builds for Gold.

Easier Gold than FBWGG: QIRG (Quarian Infl Reapers Gold) by ELNOOBSTERin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 2 points3 points ago

Hey so I tried this build with my QI except that I didn't quite know what was actually supposed to be in this build besides backfire, tech vulnerability, and fire a power while cloaked.

On Reaper Silver it was clearly awesome. I would cloak, fire sabotage, and then shoot my Carnifex X. I was top of the chart and guys were dying left, right, and center.

Except here's the thing.
I don't understand why this is so effective.

I went back and re-read the description of the powers but I just don't understand what the synergies are here that explain what was happening. Does cloaked fire count as tech damage or something? How does backfire work with this or is it a separate effect? If anyone could shed some light here I'd really appreciate it. It's great to be a killing machine but I clearly don't understand why it was working so well.

What sniper rifles do you use and why? by umilmi81in MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 0 points1 point ago

I agree with the posts that it's definitely a situational/context kind of thing. I have one of every sniper rifle except the Valiant, and have the Mantis, Incisor, Widow, and Viper at X level; Black Widow at IV.

I use the Javelin on non-sniping classes like the Krogan Sentinel where weight doesn't matter, just because it's fun. I love the zzzzzzip of the shot and it's ridiculous damage and ability to see/shoot through walls is always great.

For my human sniper, I use the BW, many points made on here why it's so great.

For my Quarian sniper I use the Mantis as the weight is more relevant for powers.

For my Turian Soldier with Marksman, the Incisor is actually not terrible. Probably not a first choice weapon, but for variety's sake, if you are in cover and have Marksman active, you can get all 3 Incisor shots in the exact same spot.

Raptor and Viper I may take on my ARush spec'd soldier just for fun, although these aren't great weapons and I'd only use them on Bronze. I'd much rather take a scoped Saber instead.

After reading the comments here I think I will try and give the Kishock another go. It seems like it could be quite potent if I got used to its quirks.

Cast and crew tweets about Dan Harmon by fardyin community

[–]PIngp0NGMW 1 point2 points ago

I totally admire the cast for doing this and it's very heartfelt and sweet. This reminds me very much of an entrepreneurial company where the founder gets ousted by the board and all the originals feel the loss very deeply.

But by the same token, doesn't this just make morale even lower? At the end of the day, doesn't the main cast have to (contractually) come back for Season 4? Sure sucks for the new showrunners...how on earth do you live up to Dan's standard and vision, especially given that he was dumped versus left amicably?

Human Infiltrator Cryo Build by PIngp0NGMWin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW[S] 1 point2 points ago

Interesting, the Hurricane could be pretty potent here. It fires blazingly fast so I think would benefit quite a bit from the cloak bonus. My math isn't 100% positive here, but the Hurricane I does 102.5 damage per shot, the rate of fire is 600, so you can fire 10 rounds in 1 second. That's 1025 damage per 1 second burst, unmodified. So if you get the cloak damage bonus for 2 seconds, that's a ridiculous amount of damage.

I will try this immediately.

EDIT

HOLY CRAP THIS IS POWERFUL

This worked so unbelievably well that I'm amending my original post. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

Human Infiltrator Cryo Build by PIngp0NGMWin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW[S] 2 points3 points ago

To be perfectly honest, variety was the reason. I played sooooo many rounds with the Claymore SI and I also spam Proxy with my Turian Soldier and my Geth Infiltrator. I was getting a bit bored and it seems that many people seem to think Cryo Blast sucks, so I wanted to try something new to see if it would work.

Variety is one of the few things that keep me playing MECOOP these days, to be honest. I tried out the human stunlocker and drell vanguard builds posted on this subreddit recently and they were fun. I am definitely looking forward to the rumoured DLC.

[–]PIngp0NGMW[S] 2 points3 points ago

I love Claymore cheezing on my Salarian Winfiltrator (a build I found on this subreddit a while ago) but I got kind of tired of it. You're total right with all your points but I was specifically looking for something other than the Claymore for variety's sake.

I picked a pistol mostly for the added range it gave me as even though choke is great, a single shot pistol from cover is pinpoint precise. It allows for sniping mail slots and guys at much greater distances away. Smart choke is awesome but I found it much more of a mid-range kind of weapon.

Captain Stunlock: Human Soldier build by Miranda_Lawsonin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 1 point2 points ago

Haha, yeah, I had heard since March that conshot sucked and I had tried a build with it before but never with Falcon. The combo is very potent.

I ended up respec'ing and love this build now. I went with ARush weapon damage, duration, and shield restore. I use this with the Carnifex to take down heavily armoured guys.

I went with full fitness (all health and shields), and stuck to your recommendations for Alliance and ConShot. Even with only 3 ranks of grenades, I have two grenades that do 1162.5 damage which is still awesome. I feel that this build gives me the durability and versatility that I had trouble with initially. I like throwing a grenade, Falcon, conshot combo at spawn points >:D...wipes out everything low level.

It works great and is a very fun and potent combo to use. I can see it pissing off Vanguards and Snipers though so I would probably avoid it on a Vanguard and Infiltrator heavy team. But it's definitely a build that I am happy to have around in my rotation.

Captain Stunlock: Human Soldier build by Miranda_Lawsonin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 1 point2 points ago

Hey, so I tried it out again with a non-crap team (i.e., more forgiving for me to experiment) and had a much different and way more entertaining experience.

What I did instead is probably much more inline with your original intent of the build. I would get into a regular rhythm of falcon, conshot, falcon, etc., to completely stunlock the enemy. I don't know why I thought to do the shots simultaneously as that clearly wastes the stunning potential. I found that with any single enemy in the Cerberus arsenal barring Atlases, could be perpetually stunned this way. It was excellent and a lot of fun. If two enemies were packed close enough together I could see juggling them this way too. It was absolutely a blast against Phantoms...I'd say as effective as stasis, but with the added bonus of constant damage. I could destroy a Phantom alone in seconds.

I am still getting used to the squishiness and I would go down much more than I'd like. I would consider going full fitness next time and instead putting the 6 left over points into grenades instead. I didn't use grenades much except for anti-armour because Falcon and radius spec conshot are so effective at groups anyway. Evolution 5 of fitness with faster shield recharge is a big help.

I packed a Phalanx X with AP and barrel instead and would use that with AR damage boost to help me against annoying armoured targets, like Guardians. I wanted to keep the weight down so I could spam Falcon, conshot repeatedly through the Falcon clip without delay. I have a Carni X so I will try that next time for added AP punch.

I think if I were to respec in addition to the fitness/grenade change I would also go for more damage on AR instead of damage reduction and then use that with a Carni to go into "anti-armour mode."

Overall, fun build, thanks again for posting it!

A long time ago in Los Angeles, someone asked me what Toronto does better than any other city in the world. I couldn't think of a single thing. Can you? by BelugaTaquitoin toronto

[–]PIngp0NGMW 12 points13 points ago

I've seen a few posters listing it here but I will add my voice to the multicultural-ness of Toronto as something the city does very well. I grew up in Toronto and spent a lot of time downtown for university and work. It really is an amazingly diverse city where you can easily hear a half dozen languages on the subway, see many different skin tones, and see inter-racial families (this is a big one) everywhere you go.

As an ethnic minority now living in London, ON, I notice the exact opposite. There is subtle racism here; little things about how you're treated or how people speak to you ("Oh! I'm surprised your English is so good") where it's not meant to be offensive but is. And also overt racism with idiotic/ignorant statements followed by "I call it like I see it/I'm just saying/If you don't like it, too bad/I have a black friend." Or even better, prefaced with "I'm not racist but..."

I was in town for mother's day and it warmed my heart to see a white family fresh from soccer practice with their three little kids in uniform leaving a dim sum restaurant in Mississauga. If you grow up in a place where other cultures are normal and you get to experience different foods and perspectives, I think that is awesome. I honestly feel that Toronto does a great job of that.

However, the growing enclaves of Brampton (Indian) and Markham/Richmond Hill (Chinese) are more problematic. Anytime the neighbourhoods skew too much one way you start getting push back, like that white teenage girl who complained on YouTube about "stinky Indian kids" in Brampton. Diversity means diversity, not just a large collection of a non-white minority group living together. I think downtown and midtown Toronto do a great job of real multicultural integration.

I'm glad to see this. This was my riding growing up and while robocalls were not necessarily a factor here, setting aside 79 ballots is a pretty big deal. I don't have and don't know if we could ever obtain proof of deliberate tampering, but to be honest, as my own riding out here in London was subject to misleading calls against the Liberal candidate and with my general distrust of the Conservative party right now, I would not put it past them to have had some "over zealous volunteers" do some unscrupulous things.

What troubles me is that my parents are baby boomers in the riding and my dad said this weekend to me "oh, Borys is a cry baby." I normally don't get all in my parent's face about their politics but I went through a laundry list of scandals from the Conservatives that my parents had turned a blind eye to. I hope my parents very strongly consider who they vote for and if that person and their party deserves their vote.

So I got a Batarian Soldier ... by Knight0fSpadesin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 2 points3 points ago

I find the BatSol to be one of the most entertaining and versatile classes.

I usually go with Blade Armour and Ballistic Blades and forgo inferno grenades entirely. I spec armour for damage reduction and leave it on all the time. I made the mistake of spec'ing blades for cone except they fixed the bug so I may respec that. But I definitely go with exploding blades. Your choice for increased power or weapon damage with Batarian Enforcer.

Ballistic blades gives you a free shotgun with a bonus exploding effect. If you take a longer range weapon then you've got a very effective and versatile long and short range combo. I am using a Revenant X with AP and barrel mods right now, but Falcon and GPS work great too. You basically just take dudes out at range but can get up close and personal offensively but more likely on silver and gold, defensively. It's also great for hack missions because you've got capabilities at both ranges.

I have nothing against inferno grenades and I believe with blades you can trigger your own fire explosions. If you don't care for blade armour, inferno grenades are certainly viable.

Falcon Pawnnnnnnnching people is also hilarious and can be effective but only against severely weakened opponents. Unless you spec for melee damage, you will often make things worse for yourself. I prefer to punch with my BatSent instead.

I play human, Turian, and Krogan soldier fairly conservatively in a supporting role with long range fire support (e.g., anti-armour carnage spam for Krogan). But I play the BatSent super aggressively, he is very good for that.

Captain Stunlock: Human Soldier build by Miranda_Lawsonin MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 7 points8 points ago

Thanks for posting this, it looks interesting and I may give it a try. I've already spec'd my male human soldier for maximum damage and AR spam to use with heavy hitting weapons (mostly Saber and Crusader). However, I may try this build with my female human soldier since she's currently sitting unassigned. I'm always up for trying new combinations and this looks like it could be fun.

I think my only concern is that the effectiveness is significantly boosted by cryo ammo and I'm sort of reluctant to go the consumable route for a variety of reasons (bad random teammates, connection issues, etc.). Do you have any other suggestions or advice if I didn't want to use Cryo that much?

EDIT: Okay so I gave this build a try and it went okay. It didn't help that I had a mega noob team but here are my observations against Cerberus, Silver on Dagger. No Cryo Ammo and only fielding Falcon IX, no GPS to keep cooldowns low.

Pros:

  • Falcon + ConShot are a potent combo when fired together. Two forms of damage nearly simultaneously work wonders against groups or individual low level guys. I found I was taking down Assault Troopers in maybe 3-5 hits.

  • The cooldown of the ConShot is well timed for lag-issues with the Falcon, i.e., you won't fire blank shots if you try to time them together-ish.

  • Alternating Falcon, ConShot works wonders against Phantoms...strangely enough I had the easiest time with them because you can keep them constantly off balance. Even when the try to cloak to regain barrier, one of the two methods of fire will find them.

I probably need a bit more experience with this build but these were my negative observations.

Cons:

  • I miss the damage boost of adrenaline rush. Because AR is not spec'd to fire a power, I am now without ConShot which is an important part of this offense. I need to get used to using AR to buff shields and run for cover rather than use it offensively.

  • Only rank 3 in fitness means I am much squishier as a soldier than I am used to. I hadn't realized just how much those last 3 ranks mattered for survivability, especially against things like turrets and missiles.

  • I guess it goes without saying but you need a very competent team to use this most effectively. It's easy enough to take down Centurions and Assault Troopers but throw in some Guardians and Atlases with Turrets firing at you and that's another story. I feel that I lack the firepower with this build to turn the tide myself.

Anyway, like I said, probably need some more experience playing with this. I think Cryo Ammo would help a lot with this as the OP said.

The Memo That Never Was To Be Seen (ST:TNG casting) by sadz79in scifi

[–]PIngp0NGMW 5 points6 points ago

I think Troi in the earlier seasons was not very interesting and I think they were still trying to figure out what to do with her beyond empathic abilities and her past history with Riker. I do remember the possession episode (was there more than one?) where she, Data, and O'Brien take over Ten Forward. The episode where she gains control of the bridge, "Disaster" is one of my favourite episodes (Captain Picard day!). The dynamic between her and Ensign Ro was very well done even if it didn't make a huge amount of sense. They actually follow up on this idea with her training to get her command credentials with Riker in the holodeck. I don't remember exactly which episode that was, but it was also well done. It centered around Troi's reluctance to make decisions resulting in certain death which makes a lot of sense for her character. I did hate most of the episodes with her mother though.

After season four or so, I generally liked all of Crusher's episodes. The one where everyone is disappearing on the ship was good, the one with Dr.Rega the Ferengi was a neat murder-mystery, and I am a bit of a sucker for the one where she and Picard are mind-linked (I wanted them to end up together). I really hated the ghost haunting her family one though. Crusher generally wielded her authority well, unlike Troi and as you say, was far more scientific to Troi's emotions. However, I think the writers handled both characters generally fairly well and the show needed a balance.

Claymore Drellguard duo Reaper Reactor gold (accidentally) by Left2Dead4in MECoOp

[–]PIngp0NGMW 0 points1 point ago

Hey, I've been experimenting with this build a bit since you posted it and after trying the Claymore, Wraith, and Talon, I find that the Talon is the best. It lacks the hitting power of the other guns, it's true, but with a 4 shot clip and fairly fast firing, it is much, much more forgiving. Also, the pellet spread is by default pretty tight, meaning you've got some good range to work with. I also find that with a 4 shot clip I can fire off 2 shots quickly at shielded targets to take down shields, charge, and then if they are still alive I've got 2 shots in the chamber to finish them off. Even with a Talon I you've got 141% cooldown I think? This means Charging becomes a lot more viable for saving your own skin too (barrier recharge).

Thanks for this post. After many weeks of MECOOP I had never, ever tried the DV. But with your build and the video I gave it a try and it was a lot of fun.

I think I may try it with the Wraith or Talon though because I found that I needed an extra shot or two ready to roll coming off a charge to finish guys off. Very fun class to play though.

In your build though, why did you pick Power Synergy over Weapon Synergy? I figured that without Pull, it would make more sense to do extra weapon damage to kill guys after a Charge? Or was it to buff grenades?

[–]PIngp0NGMW 28 points29 points ago

I thought she was okay as Crusher, obviously much better in later seasons rather than earlier. I also always found her much more attractive than Troi.

EDIT: It occurs to me that I should add a bit of context to this. I loved TNG. I grew up as young adult watching it and still enjoy it immensely as an adult (own the full series on DVD). I thought Troi and Crusher were great characters. Pretty well developed, interesting stories, definitely part of an ensemble cast. However, I always felt that not only was Dr.Crusher an interesting character but that Gates McFadden was also very pretty. In combination this meant that she was more "attractive" to me than Troi.
