I run a Tor exit node on a pool of 25 cablemodems to provide uncensored internet to China and Iran, AMA by PeeBaggerin IAmA

[–]OnVeryThinIce 22 points23 points ago

Sir,

Do you feel at all guilty or bad about using cable company bandwidth without paying? Do you consider what you are doing stealing?

What is the combined bandwidth that you are offering up to the tor network?

Also, do you plan on setting up more exit nodes?

Note: I think what you are doing is fucking awesome and fuck the cable companies. I just want to know how you rationalize it.

Do you make under $37000, never owned a home, are employed, and have decent or good credit? Get this condo with a $19,500 government grant! (details and info inside) by EvanCarrollin Kingwood

I would have a home phone anyway. Also, AT&T has bandwidth caps that would be inconvenient with the amount I download.

Also, I hate AT&T

What's the craziest financial advice you've ever heard? by triestoohardin financialindependence

[–]OnVeryThinIce 3 points4 points ago

Greetings,

I think a more appropriate term than "rational" would be "approaching informationally perfect". By that I mean that there are so many participants in the stock market buying and selling and there is so much information about the various stock in the market that it is difficult to consistently pick "winning stocks".

For a quick thought exercise, lets picture a stock for Company A. We know all about company A from news, revenue reports, the country it is in, what product it sells, and most importantly expected future returns for that company. All this information is known to you as well as everybody else (through corporate filings etc). All this information leads to a situation where there are a large number of buyers and sellers have an idea of what a share is worth. Because of this, it is very difficult to try to "outsmart" those other people and get a "deal" on that stock (especially when taking comissions into account!).

I would urge you to read more about the Efficient-market hypothesis and information symmetry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complete_information

Both are well founded principles in finance/economics.

All good points.

For #5, I would think a large number of people would hold stocks in a tax sheltered vehicle (IRA, 401k etc) that would shield taxes from dividends. Overall though, I completely agree with #5 about the fallacy of dividend generating stocks.

"Buy this stock!"

Stock tips are meaningless; it is futile to try to continually outperform the stock-market by purchasing a stock you think is undervalued or will go up.

What are these areas of town like? Link inside. by BillyJackOin houston

Greetings,

From experience, I can tell you that it is possible to find 2-3 bedrooms houses in the Red Box for that monthly rent.

Good luck

Greetings,

My girlfriend and I live in a house in the northwest quadrant of the Red Box; it is an area called Westbury. To people who have never heard that term, I say instead "Just south of meyerland."

Great place to live! Cheap rent, lots of close stores, easy access to the rest of Houston via the loop.

Warning: I strongly caution against living on the far east side of the Red Box. I think that area is called "Stella link" but I don't know what it is called for sure, but I call it the ghetto.

HS senior most likely attending UH next year, Is it safe to be terrified of MIS major? by HoescallmeStevein UniversityOfHouston

[–]OnVeryThinIce 0 points1 point ago

I graduated with a degree in MIS in 2004 from another school. Once thing I noticed that was an issue for me and what I have noticed in other MIS graduates is a weakness in technical skills. If i were going to back and do school over again, i would double major in CS and Business.

Also, sitting in a cube coding may get old after a few years.
