First Open Atheist Candidate For GA Legislature Would Legalize Marijuana by IslandAtheistin politics

[–]NewShinyCD 0 points1 point ago

Uh, states can legalize it. That doesn't mean that the DEA won't fuck with the state though.

Mike Smith (D) is the first open Atheist candidate to run for Georgia legislature. He proposes to outlaw gifts from lobbyists and legalize marijuana. Let's show him our support. by AdamVR4in atheism

How about instead of bashing him and saying "LOL HE NEBAR GIT ELEKTED!!!oneeleven" we donate to his campaign to help him out? If you want things to change you have to start small so what better way than to start changing local politics?

Because it is safer than alcohol and cigarettes? There is also a fuck ton of border violence caused by drug cartels. Legalizing marijuana would bring in a lot of tax revenue to the state and create jobs.

I mostly have the TV on in the morning for background noise. I mostly surf the internet now. Hulu and Netflix if I actually want to watch something.

This isn't taking away their religious freedom. They are allowed to practice whatever religion they want to. The problem is that they are practicing their religion during a meeting that is ran on tax payer money. Religion has nothing to do with how the government is run and shouldn't have any influence on it either.

Yea, who cares if government officials are praying during public meetings that are ran on tax money. I guess signing hymns and having one of the officials preach for a couple of minutes would be fine too, hmm?

Any interest in learning C# over Skype for Free? by sanddy19in learnprogramming

[–]NewShinyCD 0 points1 point ago

I am interested in this. However the time (8:30 - 10:30AM) is the only thing that will get in my way since I have to be at work.

I'm not a complete beginner, but I'm not great either. I have some experience in PHP, Python, C#, and Javascript.

Javascript, jquery and node.js, oh my by bmb0xin learnprogramming

[–]NewShinyCD 4 points5 points ago

Codecademy is a pretty good place to learn the basics of Javascript.

Node.js is for server-side programming (and there are other server-side languages, the most popular being PHP) while Javascript itself is for client-side programming.

Jquery is a Javascript framework that allows you to implement Javascript stuff without writing it all from scratch. If you have surfed around the Jquery site you can see that it allows you to implement interactive windows, add effects to your site, and theme your site with ease.

a_redditor pretty much hit the nail on the head with the difference in between the C languages.

That being said, if you are wanting to learn C# go ahead and learn it. There is no need to learn C or C++ beforehand (although, there isn't any problem in learning these later on).

Two books that come off the top of my head are Head First C# and C# Yellow Book. I haven't read the second one, but Head First C# is pretty good. It will get you started with writing some basic programs and it discusses how an OO language works. Some redditors may not like the layout of the book, but for me it was quite helpful because the book made the language feel fun instead of reading a book that felt like reading a dull manual.

I understand what you mean. I also think that people are upset about it because in the year 2012 it seems silly to ban same-sex marriage when there is a shit ton of other things that should be more important.

That being said, I really hope that what NC did caused a tipping point, and, depending on the outcome of the election, we see a repeal of DOMA.

I've heard of Yii and looked through the documentation a while back. This was also when I first heard about PHP frameworks.

Doesn't Yii have a steep learning curve?
