TROPHY CASE

Leaving today for Navy bootcamp by Ember113in Military

[–]Natemick 0 points1 point ago

Yep, exactly. All that kind of stuff as well as what to bring and what not to bring to boot camp how to advance through the first few pay grades, education assistance, financial planning, etc. From what I understand, it's basically a head start on some of the stuff you have to learn while you're in boot camp.

it's Standard Transition Acknowledgment Requirements Training...it's basically a big book of stuff you'll have to memorize so you can get a head start. It also Navy policies and other generally important information. It's actually been quite a help.

Need suggestions on Star Wars novels. by thomsosin StarWars

[–]Natemick 1 point2 points ago

They're a little dated now, but my favorite series by far are the two the Hand of Thrawn books by Timothy Zahn. Also, for short stories/easy entertaining reads the Tales of...series is great. I remember Tales of the Bounty Hunters and Tales from Jabba's Palace being particularly good.

People don't get just how empathetic these majestic creatures are!!! After I had to take my gf to get an abortion because chances are both her and the baby would have died from complications I took her to a zoo to cheer her up. We came to the elephant pen and immediately one came up (a female too!!! i checked and it didn't have a male member) and pressed its trunk right up on the glass where my gf's belly was!!! We both started crying and the elephant smiled at us then raised its trunk in a solemn salute and trudged off. YOU CAN'T TELL ME THAT THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS DON'T DESERVE ALL OF THE AMENITIES AND LUXURIES AFFORDED TO US!!! I want elephants to be able to go to restaurants and live in nice houses and be free to pursue higher education because they are def. smart enough to excel.

I agree...given the right environment elephants have been known to be able to play the cello and compose very stirring conciertos due to their high emotional intelligence. If they are capable of such moving cultural achievements (hellooooooooo!!! just like us!!!) and we show them no mercy what hope do we have when we make first contact with a more advanced species? Think about it!!!

Homeschooled and Illiterate: The religious right calls it the "responsible" choice, but for some kids it means isolation with little education by aeneain TrueReddit

[–]Natemick 0 points1 point ago

I think the homeschooling movement speaks just as much to the sad state of American public education as it does to the deep religious divides in this country.

Sure there will always be fundamentalists who want to disengage from public society, but I think ensuring the educational rights of children is a two way street. We need to ensure that public institutions are providing the highest level of education we are capable of providing and we are failing in that respect.

I think education is one of the most important factors in creating an equitable, just and successful society. It's easy for politicians to make platitudes concerning our education system, but past efforts seem to be misguided. Yes, we need to provide more funding - a lot more of it, in my opinion - but that's only part of the solution. It's a complex problem in the United States due to federal and state guidelines and mandates, but it is also one of the most important issues facing this country in the long run.

I could listen to David Attenborough describe paint dry and I'd be captivated, but this seems like it's very interesting subject matter as well. Double victory!

I'd say a good 2/3's of the idiots that make up the police force where I live don't know the laws they're supposed to be enforcing. This kind of stuff is just madness. A police officer can't grasp fundamental and elementary rights guaranteed by the Constitution?! Wtf!
