You seem upset about tuition rates. You should break some windows and set something on fire and see if that helps.

Fox Broadcasting and its film and television station corporate siblings have filed suit against Dish Network, claiming that their new ad-skipping DVR infringes on Fox’s copyrights and breaches the companies’ distribution contract by ServerGeekin business

[–]NancyGracesTesticles 4 points5 points ago

Cable TV is a distribution channel, which isn't the issue here. This is a problem for content producers. Unless you can find a way to reduce production costs, content producers are going to still need ways to maintain and improve their revenue streams.

As far as I can recall, the two cheapest types of programming to produce are reality shows and documentaries. I think game shows come in right behind those two. Writers and actors are one of the more expensive pieces of the puzzle. If you want to reduce distribution costs (or you want to eliminate the need for advertising), you may have to go all the way to the source and reduce the pay that the talent receives.

They don't make separate buttons depending on where the ATM is installed. It's cheaper to make one standard kind of button.

Insane? Their entire business model is based on selling ads. They show programming to get you to see the ads.

You don't want to go back to the television of the 50s and 60s where the ads were part of the show - not only with product placement, but as actual plot devices.

I'm sure that a network has every right to say "we sell ads, we need our viewers to see those ads". Whether it violates their distribution contract remains to be seen.

Meh. At least now I know that when I see someone type "'Merica', I can go ahead and disregard anything they have to say.

Oh. So it's an epithet.

It's confusing because I've only seen it used on reddit, and it makes me think that it is the speaker that is ignorant, not the target of the epithet.

As an American, can you please tell me which group or region of people drop the initial 'A' in America? I've been all over the country, including god-forsaken Southern backwaters and I have never hear "America" pronounced "Merica".

Is it just a reddit thing?

I seem to recall OWS claiming to be a tent movement. As such, they rejected any specific goal in order to prevent any one cause from overshadowing other causes.

Conservative talking points? I'm more thinking of lunatic conspiracy and adolescent ramblings. I've been on reddit nearly five years. Conservative opinions are kinda verboten around here.

My experience with OWS protesters is that they have an adolescent mentality. They were lied to by mommy, daddy and TV and now they are mad.

It is true that there is nowhere in the Social Contract that says that you have to be polite or reasonable, but you do have to be intelligent. Impotent rage implies a variety of shortcuts in reasoning.

A company's first priority is to its employees, investors and shareholders. Of course you need to have ethical business practices, but any business practice is moot if you can't stay in business.

On the individually wrapped Jellybean tip, when was the last time you ate unwrapped candy out of a bowl on a receptionist's desk? I see what they are trying to do, but I'm not sure if it will actually be successful. So do they need to wrap individual jellybeans? Maybe. It depends on what they are trying to do.

Ethics don't matter if you can't pay your employees.
