What to do first: bulk up or lose body fat? by Bobio27in Fitness

[–]MyManD 1 point2 points ago

If you aren't afraid to be a bit rounder and plumper in the interim, then go ahead and bulk. When the time comes for a cut, you'll have a lot more to show because of it. But, if you want some abs by summer and don't mind thin arms and chest, you should start cutting now.

It is extremely difficult to do a balancing act and won't really give you great results in either muscle building or fat loss. Do one, then the other, based on why your current priority is.

So I just 'counted' up my calories I've eaten today by dedbodiezin Fitness

[–]MyManD 1 point2 points ago

I've gone from 78 kg to 69 kg in a little over two months for my summer cut on a 2100 calorie diet. And i consider this a steep cut, seeing my maintenance is just below 2800 because of sports and weights. I can't even fathom how shitty my life would be eating 900 calories a day.

You might be content at the moment, but I can't imagine much happiness involved. I'm eating fast food or pizza every other day and still losing weight because a human body doesn't need an insane diet to she fat, just better management.

110lbs is low for a girl your height, so for a guy it's kind of....well, bad.

How do effectively loose weight in a short period of time? by TOUCHEBOOMin Fitness

[–]MyManD 0 points1 point ago

At that height you're already at an okay weight range. A good diet is only either going I make you skinnier or maintain what you have. To get a better body you have to start lifting weights and no, it probably won't happen by summer. Muscles don't grow that quickly unless you want to start juicing. So push your deadline back, by a lot. Even the most experience lifters will admit that their most dramatic changes happens closer to the two year mark.

And something for two weeks? I'm sorry but that's an unreasonable expectation.

Yikes! - Dan Harmon Is No Longer Showrunner on Community -- Vulture by ashortstorylongin entertainment

[–]MyManD 1 point2 points ago

I guess the question comes down to this:

Would you have preferred the show ending its run after the fourth season, guns blazing and weirder and more esoteric than any other show on TV which is why fans love it, or it ending as a streamlined sitcom, similar to the dozens already on the air?

Because on Friday, the show isn't going to "find" an audience. It'll only have what it's able to bring with it, and those folk grew to love the show for the craziness.

If Microsoft Bans Used Games, The Industry Will Die by dealsupin technology

[–]MyManD 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, a very good customer of used games. Because if you were a very good customer that mattered to Microsoft, you wouldn't care if they did this.

Yikes! - Dan Harmon Is No Longer Showrunner on Community -- Vulture by ashortstorylongin entertainment

[–]MyManD 6 points7 points ago

Community without Harmon would be like Mad Men without Weiner. Or Breaking Bad without Gilligan. Or any David E Kelley show without David E Kelley.

Community, the whole package, was Harmon's baby. The quirks, the characterizations, the off the deep end ideas. Pretty much everything that's garnered its cult status was in large part because of him.

And ousting him now, with the show going off into its Friday night death slot, makes no sense. Despite whatever ludicrous hopes Sony has, the show WILL NOT get any new viewers on Friday. Everyone involved must realize deep down that this is going to be the last season, and ripping the creative core from the show in its finishing stretch boggles my mind.

Now I'm honestly not that excited the show is coming back. This despite my cheers when it WAS announced it was renewed. So NBC and Sony are putting the show in a timeslot where it will most assuredly fail, and they're taking great strives to alienating whatever fans are planning to migrate over. Nice move.

Calorie Confusion. by BearHoovesin Fitness

[–]MyManD 0 points1 point ago

Hey there, sorry about taking so long to respond. Here's just a basic article on it. Taking in that few calories will drop your thyroid hormone production over time.

And that's a bad thing.

The 1000 calorie diets touted out there that DO work still recommend a diet FROM 1000, not up to.

Question about Multivitamins by BananaNipplesin Fitness

[–]MyManD 1 point2 points ago

A multivitamin can be seen as a top off for your diet. Say your meal for today gets you most of the nutrients save for B12 and B6 for whatever reason. That multi is going to top those categories up. If your meal tomorrow leads to your Cs being a little low but everything else is fine, that multi will top it up.

They're not meant to replace food, just to fill in gaps that most diets invariably have.

Calorie Confusion. by BearHoovesin Fitness

[–]MyManD 3 points4 points ago

So from a week's experience your body hasn't shown any detrimental effects of a ridiculous diet? Gee.

Eating that low is going to have detrimental effects, the worst case scenario being a fucked up thyroid that will ultimately stall any future progress and send you into a spiral of fat gains. You could very well be a genetic freak and your body can adapt, but in life what are any of our chances of being an outlier, really?

And tell your husband to shut up. He's condoning you starving yourself.

What are your pet peeves at the gym? by ChaCho904in Fitness

[–]MyManD 4 points5 points ago

People who forget their water bottle or towel at a bench or machine.

So is someone coming back? Can I just get in here? No? Yes? Don't wanna be rude or nothing. Maybe I could. But what if the other person comes back right as I start?

Ah fuck it I'll just go to the next thing on my list.

If I had to guess I'd say he was closer to 18-20% body fat. This is my speculation based on me having a very similar body composition three years ago.

Support or criticisms for 'mini' bulking and cutting periods? by HELLO_MEGANin Fitness

[–]MyManD 0 points1 point ago

I mean, IF doesn't just mean a daily fast. You can keep a regular diet up 6 days a week and fast on the seventh. And this isn't even so terrible and you can still make dinner on the fasting day.

So, say you eat normally up until dinner of the sixth day. Right when that's finished begin your fast, sleeping through eight hours of it and then just drinking water, diet pop, etc, until dinner of the next day. Boom, 24 hour fast that would give you the caloric deficit you would've gotten eating at a minor deficit daily and you can still have family dinner every night.

I can tell you right now that you don't have to do ANY core specific exercises to get an explosive mid section and abs.

Not a single damn one.

Looking for something similar to ON 100% but with more carbs. by leffertsin Fitness

[–]MyManD 0 points1 point ago

Seeing that minus the protein you've left yourself with just 9 grams remaining. If you want something the same size, at MOST you'd only get 9 grams of carbs instead of 3, and it would be flavorless and disgusting.

5'10", 120 pounds looking to build muscle by Eugene_Riderin Fitness

[–]MyManD 0 points1 point ago

120 lbs? At 5'10? That's not just underweight, that's borderline anorexic. I'm 5'8 (in shoes) and at 150lbs I look pretty damn skinny.

Like God mentioned, bump whatever diet you currently have up 2-3x. At the moment it won't even matter what the ratios of protein/fat/carbs are. You're gonna want to add a good 20-30 lbs on your frame, a lot of which will be fat. Do heavy compound lifts as your primary workout while you do this. Once you've reached a more normal weight you'll have no problem curtain off the fat.

Vertical Jump needs improvement by thebeefstew22in Fitness

[–]MyManD 1 point2 points ago

I seem to be answering this question once a week. If you have to pick a program. Go with one that focuses more on large explosive plyometrics than one that has you doing hundreds of smaller, worthless hops.. So, Vertical Bible > Air Alert.

You can equate it to a sprinter. When sprinters train for a 100 meter dash, they do it by sprinting. They don't do it by jogging a half marathon. Same with jumping. Do exercises focusing on maximum explosiveness rather than bunny hopping around. Now, things like Air Alert will work over time, but it'll take longer, your gains won't be as good and you'll have no one but yourself to blame if you destroy a knee or get some shin splints.
